I have been trying for months to get a check up for myself, DH and DS. Our dentist said they were hoping to start again by December but not been given the go ahead yet. I have a tooth that I think a filling has fell out of and I really don’t wanna spend Xmas in pain :(
We’re in the north west.

Ours has been open since July. Had a root canal in August.

Nellee · 11/12/2020 16:27

No

RosyfingeredDawn · 11/12/2020 16:28

No, they won't write a prescription for toothpaste either.

PurpleDaisies · 11/12/2020 16:29

Yes, I’ve had a crown done in two stages and a hygienist appointment.

BiscuitDrama · 11/12/2020 16:30

Nope. Scotland.

I think they will remove a tooth, if that is a reasonable option.

My dentist friend also said the temporary fillings on amazon are worth a shot. Just follow the instructions.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 11/12/2020 16:32

Ours has been open for check ups since the summer, I've been twice.

QuantumCheese · 11/12/2020 16:33

Yes. Private dentist though. Had my check up cancelled during first lockdown and just been for a check up and they had loads of slots free.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 11/12/2020 16:35

@RosyfingeredDawn I got a prescription in June and again last month. Seems all practices are different, I would just call and ask.

Itmaybeus · 11/12/2020 16:35

Yes but they've started with those that cancelled in March. We were due in June and have an appointment booked for February.

Rosehip10 · 11/12/2020 16:37

My surgery is doing checks, routine work and the hygienist is doing cleans - totally private surgery mind.

NoSquirrels · 11/12/2020 16:37

Yes, open since summer. Check up & hygienist cancelled in March, and my whole family have just been seen for a checkup and I’ve had a hygienist appt too. Private dentist- NHS may be different? It’s taking ages their cleaning and PPE measures but all functioning normally.

PurpleDaisies · 11/12/2020 16:37

If you’re in pain and your dentist won’t see you, you could try calling 111 for an emergency appointment.

Will they not treat the filling and give you a check up later?

Orangeblossom77777 · 11/12/2020 16:39

Yes, I had a filling redone they treated that as an emergency. Private dentist though. SW

CorianderQueen · 11/12/2020 16:40

They have been throughout

EnPoinsettia · 11/12/2020 16:41

Yes, opened up again late summer.

Had a check up yesterday. Poor bugger looked knackered, he’s been opening early and closing late to clear the backlog from when he had to be closed.

And the hygienist has lung problems so clinically vulnerable and unable to work, so he’s doing all the scaling and polishing as well.

winechateauxjoy · 11/12/2020 16:42

No - and I pay £20 a month for this service - not had my teeth checked in over a year.

BestWatcherInTheUnit · 11/12/2020 16:42

Basic position appears to be that private dentists are open but NHS are not. Could you go private?

Mindymomo · 11/12/2020 16:42

We have been seen as private patients at our dentists, but due to having to clean everything before and after each patient, plus extra PPE used they are not seeing NHS patients. My husband had a bridge refitted in July, the dentist and dental nurse wore full PPE. I’ve had a check up and a hygienist visit in August.

BefuddledPerson · 11/12/2020 16:43

I went private in the end to get a appointment Sad

EndoplasmicReticulum · 11/12/2020 16:44

No. We're NHS. My dentist don't know when they can start checkups again.

blowinahoolie · 11/12/2020 16:48

Nope. Not heard yet. We were due family check up in July but it got cancelled.

DioneTheDiabolist · 11/12/2020 16:49

My dentist is only doing extractions and prescriptions. You can get a temporary filling kit at most pharmacies OP. They're about £5, really easy to use and do 8-10 fillings.

EggysMom · 11/12/2020 16:52

Nope, our dentist hasn't re-started checkups for NHS patients.

SpeckledyHen · 11/12/2020 16:54

Yes they are doing everything. Private practice.

Cantaloupeisland · 11/12/2020 16:59

Yes seen hygienist and had a filling done, NHS dentist in South East
