I have been trying for months to get a check up for myself, DH and DS. Our dentist said they were hoping to start again by December but not been given the go ahead yet. I have a tooth that I think a filling has fell out of and I really don’t wanna spend Xmas in pain :(
We’re in the north west.

Mine is private (Gloucestershire) and is only treating emergencies. I've got a cracked tooth, and it's a niggling pain but not bad enough to be able to go in with apparently...........

DH however has had some cosmetic dental treatment finished, with no issues at all Hmm

Doublebubblebubble · 11/12/2020 19:43

Ours have been. Dd10 still has a lot of milk teeth (molars - that I didnt realise about) and one of them fell out so I panicked and got an appointment almost immediately.

Ive got a discounted hygienist app in 3 days time so all still going on here

rosy71 · 11/12/2020 19:56

Yes. Had our appointments cancelled when they were closed during lockdown but rescheduled later. Weve had check-ups, ds2 broke a tooth & had it repaired. I have a follow up appointment next week to check something out. It's a private dentist.

Norugratsatall · 11/12/2020 20:00

Yes

CrunchyCarrot · 11/12/2020 20:10

Mine's been open for regular work since July.

Tulipshoots · 11/12/2020 20:12

Yes with a very healthy £45 charge on top for extra covid precautions.

Doublebubblebubble · 11/12/2020 20:30

@Tulipshoots

Really??? Id have called that out right away.

I'm taking covid precautions very seriously but it is just as dangerous for us as patients to see dentists as it is for them as dentists - and they have better PPE than we can get our nabs on.

That just sounds like greed.

Next time ask them if you can charge too as a precaution

SantaPranki · 11/12/2020 20:54

NHS dentists are not allowed to add extra cost for PPE .

NHS and private have different regulatory bodies .

Also , going for dental treatment does involve actually removing your mask . Wow , imagine going somewhere and being allowed to
take the damn thing off !

Muchtoomuchtodo · 11/12/2020 20:58

No routine NHS check ups at our dentist in South Wales.

YellowPostItPad · 11/12/2020 20:59

No

YellowPostItPad · 11/12/2020 21:00

They did give DD her prescription toothpaste though.

JamesMoriarty · 11/12/2020 21:03

No but DS managed to get a filling as he was in pain and they classed it as an emergency.

Ontheboardwalk · 11/12/2020 21:30

yes in the NW and have been for a while

I’ve had NHS checkup and private filling in Oct (£180 same price as pre Covid)

I’ve seen hygienist twice. In July for manual scrape £39. Last week sonic clean but had to pay an extra £21 for the pleasure

Standrewsschool · 11/12/2020 21:33

Mine IPhone is doing emergencies but no routine check up. A friends nhs dentist is doing check, ups.

MrsJonesAndMe · 11/12/2020 21:53

NO Sad

DelphineWalsh · 11/12/2020 21:57

Yes, just signed up as a new patient at the practice a few weeks ago. I have hygienist appointment next week.

BettyOBarley · 11/12/2020 22:13

They've just started doing children's appts again (West Yorks)

Madcats · 11/12/2020 22:21

I've had to "reschedule" check ups for all of us twice this year. I did have a £90 hygienist appointment a couple of months ago and noted that 2 of 3 dentists weren't working that day. TBF it wasn't a day I usually visit.

Gum disease isn't great for the heart....hmmm

EwwSprouts · 11/12/2020 22:25

I go private (same dentist from pre-privatisation) and they started treatments in Oct and I've had a check up. DH & DS go an NHS dentist and they're still doing nothing except emergencies.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 11/12/2020 22:26

yup. family check up booked for the Xmas holidays.
I had a crown replaced during the first lockdown as well. Love my NHS dentist. No extra fees.

twinklespells · 11/12/2020 22:31

My dentist are still only doing emergencies. I've got a maternity exemption until July and would really like a check up before then Sad
