Police arrests for travelling between areas
Shock

Peppafrig · 17/11/2020 17:19

It was very if we push through these next three weeks we can have some sort of Christmas. But I’m calling we will go straight back into Tier 3 and we won’t at all. Just like the extra restrictions in September were for three weeks.

beepbeeprichie · 17/11/2020 17:36

So areas are moving into tier 4 but not based on any of the criteria that were originally laid out for what constituted each tier. This tier 4 was supposed to be a last resort. Yet here we are.
The ‘law’ announced today by the First Minister to ban travel has neither been debated nor passed by parliament.
We are now in a dictatorship.

beepbeeprichie · 17/11/2020 17:37

Oh and people living in Orkney can meet outside. Hmm

I agree England next The cure is becoming worse than the disease
Bumble84 · 17/11/2020 17:54

Ok thanks, I missed the announcement and didn’t see it reported it was for 3 weeks. It’ll now generate a rush of people doing Christmas shopping before Friday is my concern!

OldGreyBoots · 17/11/2020 18:47

So frustrated at today's announcement. I'm in an extended household with DP, so still allowed to meet: but we're in different council areas, both tier 4, so could be stopped from meeting by police. Very concerned his mental health is going to implode this time.

HakeCod · 17/11/2020 19:05

@OldGreyBoots

Meeting up with the other part of an extended household is an acceptable reason to leave your council area according to the SG.

Its not a dictatorship. Its to prevent the virus from spreading. The SG have done it to try and mitigate the likelihood that people will want to meet at xmas in some form. They don't want more deaths and people ill. Whats the alternative? The numbers are just not coming down. If she leaves it, people will mingle and just at the worst possible moment there will be a rise in cases, hospital admissions and deaths. Also, you have to make the sacrifice for our children at school So suck it up.
Fortherosesjoni70 · 17/11/2020 19:36

[Oh and btw, its not my choice about the schools. For me, i would have blended learning but we have been told time and time again that we have to make this sacrifice. So that is that.

Fortherosesjoni70 · 17/11/2020 19:36

and well, its what the parents want.

thedevilinablackdress · 17/11/2020 19:46

We're all scunnered, no doubt about it. But right now, what's the alternative? (Not would-have-with-the-benefit-of-hindsight) Shut the schools and leave everything else open? Something else?

beepbeeprichie · 17/11/2020 19:59

It’s not a question of sucking it up. At no point did I say I wouldn’t be obeying the restrictions. That does not change the fact that we were told what the criteria for tier 4 would be. They’ve not been met but the rules have changed. You can now be arrested for leaving tier 3/4. That is going to be brought into law without any due process. That is extremely worrying.

OldGreyBoots · 17/11/2020 20:38

@HakeCod I had read the guidelines a few times and somehow missed that! Thanks for pointing that out.

Its because of covid. I don't really see why its worrying. It has to be quick, hence the lack of due process. Circumstances dictate. Its not just an arbitrary rule made for no reason.
Peppafrig · 18/11/2020 03:27

I want to see the evidence that the places that she has shut are the reason for the rise in cases. If it’s true then she should be able to provide data that people are picking it up on driving lessons and at the hair dressers.

Isn't the point more that there's a fairly high level of general community transmission, so you have to take a pretty blunt instrument to try to curb it.

If there's an actual hairdresser etc that's a source of transmission, I assume it's the same as a pub and would be closed for cleaning, etc.
