I thought I'd start a thread of current over-used phrases I keep seeing on other threads (does this count as a thread about a thread? Hmm:

"its 4 weeks people!"

"this virus isnt going anywhere!" (i hold myself to account for using that one)

"its not a proper lockdown"

"Christmas is just ONE DAY"

Please feel free to add your own!

"I've just been out. So many people not wearing masks/getting in my personal space. I couldn't stop crying and shaking. If you cant wear a mask or social distance then you need to stay the fuck at home"

"We wouldn't be in this mess now if it hadn't been for Eat Out To Help Out*/ VE Day congas."

  • said by people I know who took full advantage of EOTHO. I'm sure there is at least one person who is still blaming VE Day.

"Nobody needs clothes/a hair cut/ to go to the pub/ a child's birthday party/ Christmas presents/insert-thing-that-makes-life-enjoyable here."

"Why are there people outside?"
(Said to me already this week).

BonnieDundee · 07/11/2020 15:33

Send in the Army as constantly parrotted by an acquaintance of mine

BonnieDundee · 07/11/2020 15:38

Well I would, but I've 2 children in 2 different schools and a husband out at work. I'm trying to entertain preschoolers and we still need to eat, so we will be going to school twice a day, going to the park/feed the ducks, getting a take away hot chocolate to keep hypothermia at bay and going to the shop so no one starves

Really. Do you think your children not starving is more important than not killing your granny? Grin

namechangefail2020 · 07/11/2020 15:48

Just get a puddle suit

namechangefail2020 · 07/11/2020 15:49

Let me just get my tinfoil hat!

Ignoringequally · 07/11/2020 16:04

There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.

IrmaFayLear · 07/11/2020 16:44

“There will be lots of jobs in hand sanitiser manufacturing” - genuinely said (search it!) by a poster not quite seeing why some people were a little bit upset about losing their jobs in entertainment and hospitality...

mum2jakie · 07/11/2020 17:24

"If everyone had followed the rules, there wouldn't have been a second lockdown" Hmm

mum2jakie · 07/11/2020 17:29

And that awful meme on Facebook

"Lifting lockdown doesn't mean it's safe, just that there's room for you in hospital." Confused

Juststopswimming · 07/11/2020 22:58

"Stop looking for loopholes just to suit you"

(I dont know why I keep posting new phrases, I annoy myself by just writing it out!) 🤣😬

OP posts:
HumanFemale1 · 08/11/2020 03:04

"We can't follow Sweden because they have lower population density"

Shesingsshangrila · 08/11/2020 11:26

"Mockdown"

Sockwomble · 08/11/2020 11:46

"What if" followed by some really obscure with minute risk scenario of how you might spread covid by doing something such as cycling through a village.

"We all have to do our bit". Often said when telling someone to do far more than a bit.

Olmec8 · 08/11/2020 13:33

I like the meme on Facebook with the slogan "IF YOU COULD SEE THE VIRUS WOULD YOU STILL GO OUT??".

Well, yes, I would. It'd be easier to avoid.

WankPuffins · 08/11/2020 13:54

@Olmec8

Grin I said exactly that when I saw that too. I wish it was giant balls of red virus in the streets. We could all just walk round them.
pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/11/2020 14:18

"Big boy/girl pants"
Gratuitous "the fuck" added to slogans.
"If you think this is bad imagine dying on a ventilator"
People pretending not to understand why Christmas is important to people ("there'll be Christmas next year"...but not for my friends with terminally ill close family)

pucelleauxblanchesmains · 08/11/2020 14:21

Oh and I'd forgotten "what if everyone did that"/"what if you had a dreadful accident and needed help" about people going to the park or on a bike ride. What if everyone went to the park at the exact same time and had an open mouthed kissing extravaganza with a bunch of pensioners, what THEN?

GoldenOmber · 08/11/2020 15:21

@Olmec8

Oh yes I loved that! Well yeah I would still go out, given I could merely walk around those giant viruses, plus looks like have fairly low chances of inhaling any of them, plus if it's actually blobbing down the street on its own with no people around then all our mechanics about transmission are wrong so we may as well give up anyway. STAY SAFE!
WankPuffins · 08/11/2020 15:46

@GoldenOmber you could just heard all those giant virus birthing balls into a stadium with tractors and nuke them.

That would be awesome.

Shesingsshangrila · 08/11/2020 17:42

Someone who knows someone's brother's dog walker who used to run marathons every day and now can barely walk to the toilet due to long covid (they're always marathon runners... I always knew running was bad for you!)

rookiemere · 08/11/2020 17:48

Long covid is hugely annoying in itself as a term. For many years people have managed perfectly well ( or perhaps not so well) with using the terminology post-viral fatigue. No one expects someone who has recovered from pneumonia to be running marathons within the month, so why does Covid have to have its own terminology?
Plus it's only been around for less than a year - how long can it be?

Juststopswimming · 08/11/2020 17:53

Agreed rookie - no one says "long pneumonia" do they?

Its always the runners, always.

"Just wear a mask"

"My grandma wears a mask and she has COPD/ asthma"
I know a person with a broken back who is a fitness instructor. It doesn't mean all people with spinal injuries and compromised mobility are malingering!

"Global pandemic" I still haven't worked out what other kinds of pandemic are avaliable Wink

oneglassandpuzzled · 08/11/2020 18:41

@HumanFemale1

"We have to get the R rate down"

"You're just being asked to stay at home FFS, it's a small inconvenience and people are DYING"

Better not to see your elderly and bereaved mother than risk KILLING her.
