I thought I'd start a thread of current over-used phrases I keep seeing on other threads (does this count as a thread about a thread? Hmm:

"its 4 weeks people!"

"this virus isnt going anywhere!" (i hold myself to account for using that one)

"its not a proper lockdown"

"Christmas is just ONE DAY"

Please feel free to add your own!

Just stay the fuck at home

Well I would, but I've 2 children in 2 different schools and a husband out at work. I'm trying to entertain preschoolers and we still need to eat, so we will be going to school twice a day, going to the park/feed the ducks, getting a take away hot chocolate to keep hypothermia at bay and going to the shop so no one starves Wink

Underhisi · 06/11/2020 13:10

"It's no wonder hospital wards are full" said to people who are daring to suggest they might drive to NT parkland or similar.

wobblywindows · 06/11/2020 13:24

"I don't know anyone who's died from it "

wobblywindows · 06/11/2020 13:25

"Next slide please"

Olmec8 · 06/11/2020 13:27

Got to be "let it rip [through the population]".

This virus doesn't spread, it "rips".

wobblywindows · 06/11/2020 13:29

It didn't have to be this way.

dingit · 06/11/2020 13:30

It's all the university students fault

PolloDePrimavera · 06/11/2020 13:33

"Who is a FRONTLINE NHS WORKER..."

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 06/11/2020 13:36

"Well, it's not technically against the rules, but it's not really in the spirit of things is it?" if someone suggests such a thing as driving to the countryside for a walk or doing two outings for exercise in a day.

FractionalGains · 06/11/2020 13:37

“Why can’t you just FaceTime them instead?”

(Usually in response to someone posting about visiting a suicidal/bereaved/newly postpartum family member who is desperately in need of support)

RaspberryCoulis · 06/11/2020 13:37

"blatantly flouting"

PolloDePrimavera · 06/11/2020 13:43

...,socially distanced of course,...

Ignoringequally · 06/11/2020 13:43

Flocking to beaches.

HumanFemale1 · 06/11/2020 13:49

"We have to get the R rate down"

"You're just being asked to stay at home FFS, it's a small inconvenience and people are DYING"

RegularHumanBartender · 06/11/2020 13:55

Something about 'Can't you manage without the pub for 4 weeks', or 'Can't you cope without having a pint with yer mates'.

Exponential growth.

Snuggling down with blankets and twinkly lights for 4 weeks.

Key worker. Or, FRONTLINE worker.

IcedPurple · 06/11/2020 13:55
  • The virus doesn't care about (Christmas/your daughter's birthday/your holiday/your social life)
  • My grandparents lived through the Blitz but idiots like you won't even stay at home and watch TV for 4 weeks
  • Helloooo? Global pandemic?
Shesingsshangrila · 06/11/2020 14:20

Anything to do with flocking - why people have suddenly started flocking this year instead of just going to places.

"Going for nice walks"

"Nobody complained about having to wear a mask during the war"

IcedPurple · 06/11/2020 14:50

Flocking flockers who flock.

Rosehip10 · 06/11/2020 17:58

"My dp/brother/mate is a VERY senior consultant or VERY high up in the government"

WankPuffins · 06/11/2020 18:03

@Rosehip10

"My dp/brother/mate is a VERY senior consultant or VERY high up in the government"
@Rosehip10 I always want to reply “yeah, we all know he just prints out the invoices or answers the phones - but you crack on” Grin
Frostedlantern · 06/11/2020 18:08

The sooner we all follow the rules the sooner we can get back to normal.

Frostedlantern · 06/11/2020 18:10

I love "not a proper lockdown". This time last year 'lockdown' meant nothing outside of prison dramas, and now half the country's got strongly-held views on what a Proper one is

Love this.

friedshrimp · 06/11/2020 18:31

People go to war you know - all you’re being asked to do is stay home and watch Netflix!!

WankPuffins · 06/11/2020 18:38

@friedshrimp

People go to war you know - all you’re being asked to do is stay home and watch Netflix!!
@friedshrimp Piers Morgan used to say that on repeat and I’d want to throw things at the TV.
Northernsoulgirl45 · 06/11/2020 18:51

Ringfence care homes
Pay ecv to stay home and let everyone else get on with it.
The average age of the dying is above average life expectancy
Lockdown is responsible for x y and z deaths
