I thought I'd start a thread of current over-used phrases I keep seeing on other threads (does this count as a thread about a thread? Hmm:

"its 4 weeks people!"

"this virus isnt going anywhere!" (i hold myself to account for using that one)

"its not a proper lockdown"

"Christmas is just ONE DAY"

Please feel free to add your own!

Yes yes to ‘global pandemic’ - makes my grammar teeth itch...

"So many shops and non essential businesses open! It just means the whole thing will drag on!"

I also hate "The science says..." "According to the science..."

As if 'science' were a clear-cut rool book that everyone agreed on.

Juststopswimming · 09/11/2020 12:26

I agree iced - and like we lived our lives prior to this, solely according to science.

@pucelleauxblanchesmains

Oh and I'd forgotten "what if everyone did that"/"what if you had a dreadful accident and needed help" about people going to the park or on a bike ride. What if everyone went to the park at the exact same time and had an open mouthed kissing extravaganza with a bunch of pensioners, what THEN?

Love this! Grin

Some of these are hilarious although I've said far too many of them myself. Blush

Thrown to the wolves or thrown under the bus, - generally meaning someone having to go to work.

Oh yes that one is funny! And all the 'I don't feel safe!' at work, as though they were working for a bomb disposal unit rather than sitting in front of a computer in an office.

And of course they are all 'so much more productive' WFH... shame the boss doesn't always agree.

Juststopswimming · 30/11/2020 21:35

I've just seen a good one:

"Masks are like shoes - a couple of centuries ago, people didn't routinely wear shoes - you just have to get used to it and then it becomes normal"

Wow

Actually global pandemic isn’t a tautology since a pandemic is an epidemic across multiple countries. So I’ll say

GLOBAL PANDEMIC!! 🙄
