Hi all,

Want to make sure I don’t miss out on anything so can you please share what are the things you need to do before lockdown (in the likely case it happens?)

My short list so far is:

  • teach grandad how to use video calling
  • return books to library and get new ones out
  • take stuff to charity shop before they close
  • maybe go to the hair salon and take the kids to barbers
  • go to primark and Poundland for bits and bobs
  • do all pending house maintenance
  • final trip to Ikea

We’ve got (private as no nhs open so I’ve given up) dentist appts in October so goodness knows if they’ll happen!
I’ve not had a haircut since Feb as simply cannot be faffed to sit there in a mask. And my eyebrows are something else - but I’ve not had them done as another thing I’ll get done once life is normal. This is definitely not a new normal IMO.
But I don’t think this lockdown will be like the last. I’m just making sure I have spare loo roll and bread flour (I make my own bread) and yeast - yeast is still hard to get ! No other special prep as I don’t think we ll see a repeat of last time .

Tradesmen here never stopped. They’re all self employed the ones I use. Never stopped working , how can they, so not worried about house stuff.

yeOldeTrout · 19/09/2020 18:49

I am SO glad I finally got my filling done, 2 days ago.
I'll miss pool swims if that goes. :(

SallySeven · 19/09/2020 18:50

Our charity shops have not accepted donations since reopening.

I'm about to throw a bag of old holey stuff out. We've had luckily had a collection bag for "quality" clothes recently.

Bbq1 · 19/09/2020 18:51

Yep my dh works in a supermarket and has noticed people are starting to panic buy again...unbelievable. Did those people learn nothing the first time around? If they aren't greedy there really is enough for everyone.

Coffeesnob11 · 19/09/2020 18:52

I have just ordered my fencing ( i was due to order in a months time) as the chap doing my garden mentioned everyone was buying due to potential lockdown so to get matching panels etc we should order now.. Its being delivered next week.

55larry · 19/09/2020 19:00

We bought an extra freezer last week as I was able to buy meat in bulk so if there is a lockdown I won’t need to get any meat for sometime. I keep a lot of different tins in anyway but do need more chopped tomatoes.

We have booked to go away for the weekend on the 9th October but whether that will happen who knows.

I want to get some wool as during the last lockdown I started knitting again.

PilatesPeach · 19/09/2020 19:12

Flu jabs - book now - some pharmacies are already looking at end Oct/beginning of Nov for private jabs. Boots' website said they are not able to book any more private jabs.

Emma1962 · 19/09/2020 19:13

I’m going to buy the kids xmas pressies when I get paid this month to make sure they are all sorted.
Probs stock the freezer & a few more tinned bits
See my parents
Pray they keep schools open as much as poss
Pray the dentist stays open as I need treatment but they can’t fit me in for 3 weeks

OverTheRainbow88 · 19/09/2020 19:15

Boiler maintenance/chimney cleaned

Leafbeans · 19/09/2020 19:18

Panic buyers make my blood boil

It's not panic buying to buy stuff when the supply chain is good, you buy a sensible amount ie just one or two extra bits and stock is getting replenished. Actually if you do that then you aren't joining the hoardes of people fighting over the last loo roll, and you haven't caused any issues either.

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 19/09/2020 20:10

People will panic buy when a 2nd lockdown is announced. This is why its sensible to stock up now, so that when that happens, if the shelves are half empty, it doesnt matter for you.

I'm thinking big shop in the next few days.

FippertyGibbett · 19/09/2020 20:11

Dog food

FippertyGibbett · 19/09/2020 20:13

I bought paint for my bedroom before the last lockdown, to give hubby something to do. It’s still in the garage 🤣

DipSwimSwoosh · 19/09/2020 20:25

Teach all the classes all the stuff and set up Google classrooms.

Dude, it's not panic buying. It's having enough stuff so you're not having to go in every day and endanger other people around you. Stockpiling is NOT panic buying. Seriously.
Heatherjayne1972 · 19/09/2020 20:34

I asked my boss about this ( dentist)
He thinks that because we have the right ppe now it’s very unlikely we will close again

IKEA888 · 19/09/2020 20:37

No flour , pasta ,toilet roll, or hamdwash in my local supermarket today.
Idiots are put and about

bitmynailbrokemytooth · 19/09/2020 20:42

Nothing at all.

Haven't had my hair cut since February, I'm loving the length, easy to tie back in a messy bun for work, it gets washed once a week. I'm wondering if I can go a whole year without getting it cut.

I have a routine medical screening appointment booked but if it gets cancelled I won't be bothered.

cyclingmad · 19/09/2020 20:50

fgs people already panic buying, popped into Aldi for usual weekly shop and walked past household items to ge to tills and toilet roll shelves are empty...saw quite a few people with trolleys full of bottled water too.

The shops are not shutting ! We are not going to be told we can't ever leave our houses!

TheSunIsStillShining · 19/09/2020 20:55

@DeathMetalMum

2021 Calendar. Plus plenty of the things mentioned up thread such as hair appointments, stamps, trip to the butchers and we have already started filling up the freezer with some pre-cooked meals.
ooh, the optimist :D
Piggypower · 19/09/2020 21:05

I did a large wine order today. That’s about it.
