Would you book a holiday for October half term?

We were thinking about a cottage somewhere, driving there. But looks like there might be a lockdown? Are others planning a ‘staycation’ half term?

KindKylie · 19/09/2020 07:34

No, I really can't see it happening

Hazelnutlatteplease · 19/09/2020 07:35

Nope, and definitely not if i couldn't cancel for free

FippertyGibbett · 19/09/2020 07:36

Absolutely not.

ginberry4 · 19/09/2020 07:37

We were going to.... but not now a lockdown looks more likely Sad

jerometheturnipking · 19/09/2020 07:37

I’m planning a ‘staycation’ in that we’re staying at home. We have no idea what’s going to be imposed on us and when, and it’s clear that carrying on as we are isn’t going to be an option for much longer.

Pootle40 · 19/09/2020 07:37

We have booked but can cancel if needed. If we can go we will.

FlyingFlamingo · 19/09/2020 07:38

No. We were hoping do book somewhere near my sister and meet up outside (we are in Wales, she’s in England) and otherwise we don’t know when we will even see her and my niece but I don’t think it’s going to be a possibility Sad

feelingverylazytoday · 19/09/2020 07:38

No. We are having a 2nd wave, people really should stay at home as much as possible until it's over. Why do you even need to ask?

ShanghaiDiva · 19/09/2020 07:39

Yes, but with free cancellation so will wait and see what happens. It’s self catering accommodation about 90 mins from where we live so low risk imo, but will cancel if necessary

Ha yes I actually meant staycation in that way... staying at home. Don’t know why I used that word it’s really confusing (and a bit cringe tbh) Blush

Well things are changing quickly all the time, this is something we planned (roughly) in the summer, when things looked better Sad

No, it'll be very last minute thing if we do. I want to visit my mum for a few days, who lives six hours drive away, still don't know if I will be 'allowed' to if further restrictions come in to play Sad. Hoping to see my two (adult) kids too (they live four hours drive away) but even that is possibly not going to happen because of the "max two households" rule here. Crazy.

TheBitchOfTheVicar · 19/09/2020 07:57

We booked a cottage a couple of days ago in a fit of optimism. Cancelled it this morning - we only book cottages that have free cancellation so didn’t lose anything, thankfully

Yetiyoga · 19/09/2020 08:13

I would book something but only if I could get my money back. People use the word second wave but we truly don't know yet. We know a lot more about the virus now. Cases have been creeping up for a while now but death rates remain low. They may go up, I'm not arguing that. But equally they may not. Life can't just stop. So long as people are being sensible, i don't see why people shouldn't be allowed to do things.

Bulblasagne · 19/09/2020 08:15

Op we had 3 nights away in UK booked, with cancellation. Its not looking likely is it sadly.

Figgygal · 19/09/2020 08:18

We have been looking all week for north or south Devon and it’s all booked so looks like a lot of people are

Briefly contemplated turkey out of desperation but after last 24 hours thinking not going to bother

Strugglingtodomybest · 19/09/2020 08:22

No, not a chance.

madasamarchhare · 19/09/2020 08:23

We booked a year ago self catering holiday cottage. We can get a full refund if we cancel or transfer to next year so not a big deal. However I’m still hoping we can go although it’s looking more and more unlikely. 2 hours drive from here, both there and where we live low risk areas. We keep ourselves to ourselves when we go, lots of walking on huge beaches so no need to be anywhere. I’m very happy with takeaways or cooking at the cottage if need be. Was really looking forward to a change of scenery and some relaxation. But if it’s not to be then it’s not to be.

TokyoSushi · 19/09/2020 08:23

No. If you'd have asked me a few days ago I would have said yes, but not now.

barbites · 19/09/2020 08:24

We have a week away booked this morning (booked a long time ago) think I will be cancelling it today as after that we won't get all our money back. Crazy Boris could do anything!

barbites · 19/09/2020 08:25

No idea where "this morning" came from in my post! Need an edit button!

m0therofdragons · 19/09/2020 08:29

We’ve booked a night away the weekend before half term but have accepted it might not happen. Florida holiday was cancelled and I’m feeling really low. I realise I’m fairly privileged but I’ve never not had a holiday. I can’t even feel excited about Christmas. I usually love autumn - Halloween and bonfire night.
Our local rec has a travelling fair this weekend so we’re predicting cases rising in 2 weeks here!

EsmeeMerlin · 19/09/2020 08:29

Nope, although we had planned on it when our holiday was cancelled at Easter. We have booked two days out, but via merlin passes so we won’t lose money if we can’t go.

thetrees · 19/09/2020 08:30

No, I think the chances that you would be able to go are slim

cologne4711 · 19/09/2020 08:32

I was thinking about visiting my mum. I probably still will on the grounds that she's 81 and it's not unreasonable for me to visit her for care reasons, but I am not booking any trips away.
