Covid

Would you book a holiday for October half term?

We were thinking about a cottage somewhere, driving there. But looks like there might be a lockdown? Are others planning a ‘staycation’ half term?

No.

We did a cottage holiday in the summer & I did wonder if we would be better waiting until October when things would surely be more normal. How wrong was I!?

Perhaps book if you can definitely get a full refund, but can you deal with the disappointment if cancelled? I've pretty much given up booking anything at this stage (not just holidays). We've had so many things cancelled and I just can't be bothered anymore (including the "end of Corona Celebration BBQ" that a friend optimistically put in the diary at the start of lockdown for tonight!)

We've got a couple of nights booked, about an hour away from home - booked a week ago just before it all started to look really bad again! It's free cancellation up to the day of travel though. It would have been our only holiday this year and now it's looking doubtful Sad

We have a week in Scotland booked. We booked it last year and the payment is due soon. No idea whether to pay it or not

No I wouldn't.

We are now seeing a rise because people went on holiday/busy beaches a month/six weeks ago.

I hate the thought of having another lockdown. But I do believe we need to strict with whatever rules are out into the area you live in other wise we are never going to get on top of this virus.

Up to two weeks ago I would have, and was actively looking. Cases in my town rose sharply over the last 2 weeks and we're now in lockdown. I won't be planning anything! We've been looking at santa visits but so cautious about losing our money.

Covid doesn't worry me. I'm a key worker and am sneezed and coughed on all day and I've already caught something!......but lockdowns... restrictions....losing money... quarantine....holidays as much as I would bloody love one ...no way. Just gonna lose the money or it will be a stress about will we be able to go / will we be able to get back / will we have tk quarantine. They give new instructions at a moment's notice I just wouldn't be able to relax as I'd be so sure I'd lose the money or have to quarantine. It's not worth it I don't think

I'm just 2 days away from a booking in North Wales with my husband (cash arrangement) where there are few cases of Covid (at the moment). I live in England (South of Birmingham) where the cases are rising but not dramatically yet. I'm just waiting and wondering when Boris may make an announcement to restrict travel. I won't pack my case until Monday morning!!

No, I wouldn’t book. Even if we can travel it just helps the virus spread more. We’ll wait now and book when things return to normal or as close as.

No, not a chance. I really wanted to book a log cabin somewhere and just chill and relax but it's too risky.
Just going to save my pennies and hopefully have a fabulous time next year..... clinging onto that thought.

I was hoping to book accommodation for 2 night to your uni campuses with DD. Instead it looks like we'll have to do a very long drive around the UK one Sunday.

I feel lots of sympathy for those who booked a cottage c and for the cottage owners in the UK though. It's such a lovely time of year for a UK break and I am guessing a lot of people need that change of scenery if they did not get away in the summer.

We have a cottage booked because it was moved from April to July to October ! I would still go as it was a walking holiday but the cottage owner is quite nervous re covid so I think we will have to cancel

We've got flights booked for October half term - booked ages ok - and until recently I thought 'well, we may or may not get to go'. Now I'm just working on the assumption we won't. I certainly wouldn't book anything new now.

I wouldn’t bother, god knows what state the country will be in at the end of October.

I have a city break booked for Monday and I'm thinking about cancelling as you never know what Boris might suddenly decide to do (although I am in Wales and travelling to Cardiff).

DH wants to. I'm not doing it. I fully expect to be staying at home.

Yes was thinking about this just now but then everything is so uncertain

Have booked a theatre trip in December though

No. If a miracle occurs with low cases then we'll go to see family. Based on recent figures I'm planning to do Christmas presents by post.

I probably would if it was a remote cottage and you took everything with you, just enjoyed walks and change of scenery.

Not if it meant sharing facilities or mingling with others though.

Isn't there talk of a national lockdown over half term with an additional week to minimise school loss? If they string it out til then

Report
Char2015 · 19/09/2020 11:24

No. It looks like SAGE is advising Gov to extend half term by 1-2 weeks to enable a lockdown for this period (unions are actually in support of this). Lockdown means no holidays/breaks.

Yes and will definitely go if we can
Have had a number of short breaks this year which have really kept us going

No, sadly just cancelled.

We are hoping for a weekend away in the city, but we haven't booked until we know what is coming. I don't want to go away if it is going to be really miserable, I would rather we stayed home.
