Examples of completely illogical ‘roolz’ everywhere - they give me ‘rule fatigue.’ I may even have reached ‘Peak Roolz.’

For example. On holiday last week I entered a shop that apparently had a one way system. It was a small shop, and because everyone was directed left on arrival, they had crowded into a narrow area in the left, thus ensuring no social distancing.

I didn’t know about the one way system, so I noticed the crowd on the left and headed to the right of the shop to browse and stay away from people. The shop assistant shouted that I wasn’t following the one way system And I needed to join the crowd in the left (I left after that).

Second example. In same small seaside town, We were there for two weeks. On our last night we went to a chippy on the seafront that we’d used three times already. They only accepted cards. They made you queue outside, allowing one customer in at a time. Fair enough.

However On this occasion they were now ‘cash only.’ I had no cash, so I asked to place my order and go to the cash point or find DH who I knew to have cash.

They refused this. When I returned with the cash, the shop was empty so I went in. But silly me, I was still breaking ‘the roolz’ Because they had another (less obvious rule) that you couldn’t go in if they were busy doing something. So she was busy battering fish, and this meant I wasn’t allowed in. Because any fule know that’s a dangerous situation.

Ice cream shop where you had to wait outside and stand behind a line when they let you in. Couldn’t see the ice cream flavours from behind the line. Was allowed to ‘step forward two paces.’ Second time I visited, whole family in the shop, primary aged children literally licking the glass counter. No objections raised

I’m totally over the roolz. Anyone else?

Went for an MRI a couple of weeks ago, couldn't wear my own mask for the scan or be wheeled in to the scanning room in the patient wheelchair ds had wheeled me up to the department in, had to swap to one of theirs even though they had wheeled me from the waiting area to outside the scanning room. Only 3 people allowed in the lift but no SD in the waiting area. Got to do it all over again tomorrow.

@Scruffyoak you've just beautifully illustrated that the sanctimonious don't give a toss about actual human lives.

Mmmmdanone · 30/08/2020 19:03

At Haven recently, I took a basic float (ie not an inflatable) into the pool for ds who can't swim. I was whistled by the lifeguard that I couldn't use it because covid I explained that my Ds couldn't swim and lifeguard said to buy him armbands. I was in the sodding pool by this point! It was a boring and fun free pool experience for us all and what exactly is the harm in a pool float?

GinisLife · 30/08/2020 19:53

@Ibake @Topseyt thank you. Certainly hope so but I have a bad feeling. I think it's the sanctimonious shite that makes me rebel. I was 60 last week (only 26 in my head though 😂) and we went for a meal. The restaurant was good and seemed to be doing stuff well but I didn't get how, when they bought us our cutlery on a tray and we had to help ourselves, how they'd got it into the tray in the first place and they brought our drinks on a tray and we helped ourselves but someone must have picked them up and put them on the tray. They can't seriously be wearing disposable gloves between every customer. You just feel like everyone is paying lip service to the roolz or making up their own. It's just crap.

@HainaultViaNewburyPark

I’m really puzzled by every other toilet cubicle being closed. Presumably MDF doesn’t stop Covid. And yet Perspex screens have sprung up everywhere. Does Perspex have mysterious Covid-repelling properties that MDF doesn’t have? And if so, can we not simply line the toilet cubicles with Perspex and have them all open?
My just 7 year old was very very bemused by the loo cubicles thing the other day - went to a restaurant for one of the last of the Rishis and they have a "one person in the toilets at a time" sign on the outer door - DD wanted the loo, so we went through, peeked around to check if anyone was in (for loads of this stuff seems to demand x-ray vision and went in). As we were going out DD piped up "that sign is silly saying 1 person - there are three toilets"

The manufacturers of sodding clear perspex must be raking it in this year. I did comment to DH that when they name the colour of the year shite they do - fucking yellow and black hazard tape is definitely the colour of 2020.

@GinisLife yes! It’s a fig leaf. I’m not young abd can’t be arsed with it anymore. Would rather go down in a blaze of glory than in the correct bemasked queue.

SylviasMotherSaid · 30/08/2020 20:35

Im in Scotland and it’s no fun going a day trip anywhere the now if you fancy going into a cafe or coffee shop ( not on Monday to Wednesdays ) . Everywhere seems to want you to book ahead which I get is government guidance but if I’m in a new place I like to have a nosy around and pick somewhere with nice looking cakes etc . Quite often if you ask to book by the time a table is available your parking is up or it’s so far in advance you would be too hungry to wait . There’s no spontaneity anymore which I hate .

WouldBeGood · 30/08/2020 21:15

@SylviasMotherSaid I love your user name. I’m in Scotland too and haven’t encountered this. The places I’ve been have been pretty chilled.

SylviasMotherSaid · 30/08/2020 22:07

I think it just depends where you go as the towns local to me have been fine I’ve not been to any of the city centres yet so wonder what they will be like

HeIenaDove · 31/08/2020 02:43

@GinisLife I hope the news you get is good Flowers

pigear · 31/08/2020 09:22

Rang vet to book in cat for her regular blood test and added that she needs her annual vaccinations.

Was told they are putting off vaccinations off for 12 weeks as they need to catch up with the ones that were already delayed.

I pointed out that my cat was coming in anyway for her blood test so surely it made sense just to do vaccination at same time, rather than a separate appointment later.

Was told that she would make a special request but it may not be possible!

WouldBeGood · 31/08/2020 09:48

My dogs were vaccinated in relatively normal conditions last week.

But my DP can’t get his well overdue eye test as opticians are only seeing emergencies. He’s struggling badly with his old prescription.

IwishIwasyoda · 31/08/2020 10:02

Dreading my DS eye test - he's 7 and needs to wear a mask. Only problem is that the eye testing equipment steams up because he is wearing a mask... I think this is beyond stupid tbh

Completely agree.
Was a relief yesterday to be in a local restaurant without any faff /no sanitiser station/masks/one way systems:fussy notices etc was like being back on normal times in fact it is only now I've realised they didn't ask for contact details.
Thy got a big, big tip.
I am a teacher, back in school last week and only two teachers ostentatiously wearing masks, backing away from colleagues etc -the usual drama llamas. Most of us are just happy to be having normal human interactions and not remotely scared of catching Covid, much less dying of it. Staff and pupils are all being offered flu jobs on site to minimise symptoms arising.

2m social distancing is near pointless. Breathe at a candle 2m away and watch it flicker

BatShite · 31/08/2020 15:13

A lot of the rules seem to be pointless, and many even appear to contradict each other in parts tbh. Some..IMO make the problem worse!

One way systems don't really work, especially in small shops. When the shops first opened I went to superdrug and got stuck behind 2 women who were doing makeup testers, tried to skip their part and was told off by shop assistant Hmm Assistant didn't even tell them that testers were not allowe3d (hence testers not being there)...they were opening products that were meant for sale!

Have also found more recently in places such as the metrocentre..security just pick on random people about masks? There was at least 50% of people a few weeks back without them, but security were picking single people (usually women from what I saw) and telling them to get one on..seems a bit odd, while allowing multiple people to go past unshouted at?!

From what I saw, people were walking around without masks, as its really easy to distance, but putting masks on when entering shops, which seems..ok to me really. Seems in places with much stricte3r rules than us, walking around shopping centres is fine, its just when entering shops you need sanitizer and masks.

But yeah, it was the way single people were getting pulled that annoyed me, honestly it looked a bit like security were just looking for those who didn't look like they would argue/make a fuss then targeting them..

Ah yes, this one I find completely bizarre, but seems to be all over!

I have a post-script to the story I posted here earlier.

The dress I bought didn't fit Sad so I had to take it back. This time there were signs all over the shop. A sign on entry saying that they were paired with the shop next door and all transactions would take place at that cash desk. A sign at the bottom of the steps leading to shop 2, asking customers to approach cautiously and be aware of a one-way system in the next shop. Also a sign noting that customers in shop 2 cannot go back down the steps to shop 1, they now need to go outside and back in shop 1's main entrance.

Seems I wasn't the only one confused or falling foul of their badly designed system but I'm really pleased that they have actually responded to the issue rather than just eye-rolling and moaning at customers who are doing their best without psychic abilities.

@GinisLife another one hoping your news is goodFlowers

talkingkrustydoll · 31/08/2020 18:51

I took my kitten to be castrated at the P&H vets. I had to sit in the car park, call them then they called me back to ask questions. They then came out and gave me paperwork with no social distancing for me to sign. They then took the cat. When I came back I had to call them get called back to give my card details over the phone then go stand by the entrance and wait 20mins for them to bring him out. The crazy thing was the whole time I was waiting people were pouring in and out of the shop. It just makes no sense at all.

GinisLife · 03/09/2020 21:00

No idea why I think a bunch of (lovely) randoms on the internet would care really but I've been for my check up today and it was ALL CLEAR !!! I've had 3 weeks of sleepless nights feeling like things had changed and condemning myself to an early grave so to say it's a relief is an understatement !! Thank you all for the good thoughts.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 03/09/2020 21:07

Oh, I am so pleased Ginislife! What wonderful news! (And thank you for sharing, it’s so lovely to read something happy!)

GinisLife · 03/09/2020 21:07

So while I was at the hospital I had to wear a mask to go on, my friend wasn't even allowed in the hospital let Aline I go my appointment, the doctor was dressed like an alien to shove a camera up my nose - and then you come out and have to use the pay machine for parking, touch the key pad to put your PIN number in. All those germ laden people who've used it before me. No one anti bacing it. Pointless really

OublietteBravo · 03/09/2020 21:26

Oh that’s wonderful @GinisLife. I hope you sleep well tonight.
