Examples of completely illogical ‘roolz’ everywhere - they give me ‘rule fatigue.’ I may even have reached ‘Peak Roolz.’

For example. On holiday last week I entered a shop that apparently had a one way system. It was a small shop, and because everyone was directed left on arrival, they had crowded into a narrow area in the left, thus ensuring no social distancing.

I didn’t know about the one way system, so I noticed the crowd on the left and headed to the right of the shop to browse and stay away from people. The shop assistant shouted that I wasn’t following the one way system And I needed to join the crowd in the left (I left after that).

Second example. In same small seaside town, We were there for two weeks. On our last night we went to a chippy on the seafront that we’d used three times already. They only accepted cards. They made you queue outside, allowing one customer in at a time. Fair enough.

However On this occasion they were now ‘cash only.’ I had no cash, so I asked to place my order and go to the cash point or find DH who I knew to have cash.

They refused this. When I returned with the cash, the shop was empty so I went in. But silly me, I was still breaking ‘the roolz’ Because they had another (less obvious rule) that you couldn’t go in if they were busy doing something. So she was busy battering fish, and this meant I wasn’t allowed in. Because any fule know that’s a dangerous situation.

Ice cream shop where you had to wait outside and stand behind a line when they let you in. Couldn’t see the ice cream flavours from behind the line. Was allowed to ‘step forward two paces.’ Second time I visited, whole family in the shop, primary aged children literally licking the glass counter. No objections raised

I’m totally over the roolz. Anyone else?

2m social distancing is near pointless. Breathe at a candle 2m away and watch it flicker

When you say breathe at, do you mean stand 2m in front of a candle and breathe normally, or blow hard at it. Being a scientist at heart, I found a candle and did exactly that. I had to get to less than 50cm for even the hint of a flicker when breathing normally... At 1m, I could a glimpse of a flicker only when I was breathing hard. At 2 metres I had to blow very hard for the candle to flicker... As people don’t tend to go around blowing hard at people the whole time, I don’t see any reason to dispute the scientific advice that 2m is a reasonably safe distance, though not without any risk.

Oh so happy to find this thread, it’s given me some laughs thank you. Completely and utterly worn down by these roolz.

The one way systems that I can never navigate are my bugbear - It’s absolutely impossible in some places - arrows directing you into customer toilets in a busy pub/restaurant but then no way back for example, so you are constantly dodging, apologising and getting black looks for not following the ‘arrows’. Exits that are impossible to find in unfamiliar places - I’ve lost track of how many times I’ve felt overwhelmed and confused, and I consider myself to be pretty intelligent and normal (in normal times).

No idea why I think a bunch of (lovely) randoms on the internet would care really but I've been for my check up today and it was ALL CLEAR !!! I've had 3 weeks of sleepless nights feeling like things had changed and condemning myself to an early grave so to say it's a relief is an understatement !! Thank you all for the good thoughts.
Omg! Have been out with the girls and just got back. How absolutely wonderful to read your fabulous news! Am so delighted for you xx

Brilliant news! 😊😊

Has anyone noticed that there’s no point going shopping because there’s nothing to buy? Clothes and shoes I mean - really reduced choice.

I just don’t go shopping because of the crazy rules and masks. No fun. Just the supermarket for essentials. It’s dull! I love shopping, especially for makeup, but i fear that browsing the counters may not be what it was!

CountessFrog · 04/09/2020 09:27

Ah yes, but I meant online shopping.

Just tried to buy my daughter some Nike Air Force 1 trainers. Nope.

New lines added in favourite shops - immediately out of stock. My husband suggested buying my clothes on Amazon (trainers out of stock there, too) but I just laughed at him like a Smash Alien.

I took a basic float (ie not an inflatable) into the pool for ds who can't swim. I was whistled by the lifeguard that I couldn't use it because covid

That's ridiculous. I've started going to baby swim and the lady who runs it specifically said that the floats/toys she uses are fine because the chlorine kills everything! She said she just swishes the stuff in the water to clean it at the end of the class.

Pret no longer do soup ready to eat. It's cold. You have to take it home to heat it up! Who would buy a takeaway that you have to heat up yourself! I used to love Pret soup. Sad
