@Vinoonasunnyday

Yewhedge

That advice says kids over 12 should wear masks inline with adults which is exactly what happens now - shops and transport etc

Til adults are forced to wear a mask 7 hours a day at work, kids shouldn’t either- it’s a disgraceful abuse of their age. Kids have no choice but to go to school

Enough to enough

Shall I spell this out again for you @vinoonasunnyday?

Your view on what constitutes 'abuse' is irrelevant with regard to mask wearing. If transmission kicks off on schools, schools will shut. I will tell you now that if I end up unwell with Covid, I will be staying off work until o recover. That's not because I'm selfish, don't care about children and am a crap teacher. It's because I'm a human being and not an automaton, with an immediate and extended family of my own to consider. Teaching secondary is very demanding at the best of times. I will not be dragging myself into the front of that classroom if my lungs are damaged and I'm struggling to catch my breath, therefore 300 children a week will have a supply teacher or not be taught until I'm better. Do you understand?

SaltyAndFresh · 22/08/2020 22:40

@Vinoonasunnyday

God with the volume of parents here do people genuinely not give a shit about their kids

Who would genuinely make their child wear a mask all day when they have no benefit to them and a single teacher hasn’t been proven to catch the virus anywhere worldwide

What kind of parent would do that genuinely I can’t understand it

That is because you are a bit hard of thinking, I'm afraid. There's plenty of explanations on Mumsnet as to why your claims are not valid. Go and find them.
mac12 · 22/08/2020 22:40

Ok. Do nothing. Don’t prepare. Convince yourself that anyone with a different view doesn’t give a shit about kids. Tell yourself that the only way to prove you love your kids is to act as normal & make no reasonable adjustments in a pandemic.
Nobody wants to see kids in masks. This is totally shit. Who wants this? No one. But it’s going to happen because it is a global health crisis.
And we can make it into a huge drama or we can plan ahead & talk about it calmly with our kids & think of different ways we could structure the school day so kids are outside for longer without masks to try & make this shitshow bearable.

Incredibly unkind words to say to many posters that don’t care about their children. Many posters are very concerned about their children - you are being very arrogant
Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:43

Salty I understand

I’m a teacher myself

I just don’t have the fear that seeks to only exist on Mumsnet. The fact that you describe your symptoms in that way suggests an irrational fear. Yes that’s possible but the odds are ridiculous but you speak like it’s a 50:50 chance!

440 people under 45 out of a 66 million population uk have died without huge underlying conditions - that was at its most potent

So yes sorry but if you’ve passed a risk assessment and think so badly of the virus then I think you have health anxiety as that level of worry is not based on science

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:44

Ok do you all wear masks at work?

I’m guessing not. So why your kids

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:45

I can guarantee workplaces won’t be forced to wear masks cos unions would have a field day

Poor kids

SaltyAndFresh · 22/08/2020 22:47

@Vinoonasunnyday, you say you're a teacher but the way you write tells a different story.

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 22:47

@CKBJ thank you for explaining that to @FinnyStory who left to conclusions

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:49

Salty I teach post 16. Most of my colleagues can’t wait to return to work

We haven’t had one protest out of 65 staff

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 22:49

@Vinoonasunnyday - in that case you will have some understanding of current recruitment and retention problems.

We are struggling to get our TAs quota and we are a week away from starting.

Don't they use full stops in FE?
Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:54

Ok well no one I know has even mentioned a mask because none of our friends or husbands work in masks either

Maybe because I have teens too

I just don’t want to see kids in masks ever and if they do, it should 100% come after all adults wearing in workplace

Kids are just being scapegoated

SaltyAndFresh · 22/08/2020 22:54

No protests in my large secondary school either, myself included. You're another one who conflates wanting to work in reasonable safety with not wanting to work at all.

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:55

Salty grow up it’s not a literacy lesson.

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:56

Oh for gods sake

Science states no teacher has caught off a child what more do you want?

IceCreamSummer20 · 22/08/2020 22:57

Many countries are now requiring secondary school and university students to wear masks. Some sixth forms are saying students will be one week on - one week off.

Many workplaces are required to wear masks.

Any places where we are inside for any length of time with other people other than our home are going to be a risk - it is just trying to work out what is most effective. It is a bit crazy to insist everyone on public transport wears a mask or going into shops for 20 minutes and yet students all day inside will not. However like everything there is a balance.

Personally I would be in favour of a hybrid of school / online teaching and shorter days. I would also massively be in favour of very, very good test and trace and localised Plan A and B with schools being able to have less restrictions if community transmission is very low.

So I think we either blanket have many restrictions in schools or we are flexible, go in between mask wearing and hybrid days to being able to be more ‘normal’ depending on the local rates of transmission.

Schools were operating on a massively reduced scale. The sources of most infections are not possible to identify. Cases in schools increased in June/July and continue to do so in Scotland... blah.

No I don’t think science has said that at all. We do not that old chestnut again.

Children over 12 can spread/Covid

Apparently - In Scotland the Scottish Government guidelines (para 81) upholds the right of all pupils, teachers and members of staff to wear face coverings if they want to.

Fingers crossed England will do the same

SaltyAndFresh · 22/08/2020 23:00

I realise that. I'm taking issue with your claim that you're a teacher. I have a hunch you might not be, which leads me to speculate about why you might be here claiming that you are.
Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 23:01

Ice cream not being goady but other than care homes and hospitals I don’t know any work places that are forced to wear masks?

Not one -all day?

My dad works in a taxi all day and even he doesn’t have to wear one. All others are voluntary

If adults are forced them, by all means kids. But kids can’t be forced first again it’s just wrong when the science doesn’t support it

Most transmission is proven to be in homes yet we don’t wear a mask at home cos adults wouldn’t stand for it!

Kitcat122 · 22/08/2020 23:03

@Vinoonasunnydsy I caught it from my child. What's the difference?

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 23:04

@Vinoonasunnyday - yes most transmissions may well be in the homes but as you know (as a teacher) we have not been in school since March. Only small groups of kw students have been in.

Honestly going round this again is like trying to have a conversation with a brick wall 🤦‍♀️

StaffAssociationRepresentative · 22/08/2020 23:08

Uber drivers and passengers wear masks.
