agree

@Vinoonasunnyday

I can’t qhree because I genuinely don’t know anyone who cares about Covid rules etc

Why do people think they’re all going to die of Covid?

People in their 80s have a 90% surviving! It’s such an irrational fear it’s actually embarrassing

It's not just about dying though, is it?
Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 20:27

Sorry but more people are dying of normal flu right now than Covid

And it’s summer!

It’s a disgrace that the gov have put any restrictions in place because of the paranoid few

ineedaholidaynow · 22/08/2020 20:30

And what about the recently shielding @Vinoonasunnyday?

There are a couple of weeks left of summer. Are you too stupid to see beyond 'right now'? If so, crack on and get on with your life as normal, but don't expect everyone else to fall in line without expressing reasonable misgivings.
Kitcat122 · 22/08/2020 20:39

It's not just dying. The illness can be very nasty to young, fit healthy people.

notevenat20 · 22/08/2020 20:39

How would you check for lipstick or new piercings??? Think of the chaos that would ensue.

ineedaholidaynow · 22/08/2020 20:39

You do have to wonder how some people are getting flu at the moment, is it because some people aren’t socially distancing

SecretSpAD · 22/08/2020 21:20

I, personally, cannot wear a mask because it induces a horrific asthma attack. However, my two teenagers are perfectly able and willing to do so.

If a teenager infects a teacher, or teachers, then that will disrupt their education.

If there is an outbreak in a school that will also disrupt their education.

If we end up in another national or local lockdown that will disrupt their education and all important social lives.

Wear a mask, be a bit uncomfortable and keep schools open safely is the wise thing to do.

Kitcat122 · 22/08/2020 21:30

"If a teenager infects a teacher, or teachers, then that will disrupt their education."

Or possibly make them or their family member very ill.

SecretSpAD · 22/08/2020 21:35

Though all these people on threads like these who say that any teacher who is rightly concerned about their own health, and that if their families, get another job, don't seem to have realised the simple truth that if good, dedicated, experienced and talented teachers keep, leaving at the rate they current are....who is going to teach their children?

Um, actually I have different priorities this September, would you believe?!
SecretSpAD · 22/08/2020 21:40

I know that my two would be devastated if they thought that they were responsible for either of us getting ill (and as an asthmatic I'm slightly more at risk). Also their grandfather who they dote on and who is in his 80's and their cousin who is clinically vulnerable due to having had a kidney transplant end of last year.

Children do not exist in isolation, or even a bubble. They are part of a wider and often complex family and social structure. Frankly I would rather my 13 year old daughter be out of education for a bit longer than for her to have to live with the guilt (perceived or otherwise) of making people she loves ill.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 22/08/2020 21:44

Because it's hard enough to do things you know how to do with a mask on, never mind learn new things. I couldn't wear a mask for that length of time. I don't expect children to do it.

mac12 · 22/08/2020 22:11

Just popping back on here to say, if you think your child will find it difficult or uncomfortable to wear a mask at school (assuming they don’t have reasonable reason not to wear one) then now is the time for you to spend some time talking to them about it, help them find a fit that’s comfortable, discuss good hygiene when putting on/taking off a mask, and why we do this for the common good. Talk about what they can say to their teacher if it’s uncomfortable. Have strategies in place for lost masks. Plan now so it’s not a shock.
Likewise, if school closures/bubble isolation will cause difficulties for your work, think now about what you could do to manage periods of disruption. Think about alternative childcare, other support you could call upon.
Because these things are going to happen this autumn/winter. Just as in the spring, people said they can’t close schools because XYZ, but schools closed & we all had to cope. It was utterly shit & awful. But that’s the nature of a crisis.
These things are going to happen. It’s a hideous virus (& if you think young people aren’t affected then you’re not paying attention - it’s not the death rate, it’s the long term health impacts now emerging) & it will force these measures on our society as we go into winter.
So rather than pretend this isn’t coming, make plans now. Young people are amazing, they are the best of us, & we need to help them through this & I know they will cope far better than many of the adults on this thread give them credit for.

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:16

They can’t possibly make kids wear them and not other workplaces

That’s pure shit

Haven’t kids suffered enough

Shut pubs
Shit gyms
Shit shops
Stop the bloody holiday travel

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:16

shut 🤣

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:18

No other workplaces are forced to wear a mask all day other than hospitals to my knowledge - even then not all areas

Others can wear but it’s by choice

No way should kids be forced it’s purely taking advantage of their age

notevenat20 · 22/08/2020 22:19

Um, actually I have different priorities this September, would you believe?!

It was a joke to lighten the general mood.

FinnyStory · 22/08/2020 22:20

It's not as simple as wear a mask, save lives, keep schools open. They're not a magic wand.

YewHedge · 22/08/2020 22:20

YewHedge · 22/08/2020 22:22

Why would wearing a mask cause an asthma attack? Genuine question not being goady.

mac12 · 22/08/2020 22:22

Definitely not a magic wand. WHO says they are last line of defence in schools after physical distancing, reduced class sizes & blended learning. But as we’re not doing any of that here, masks are actually the ONLY line of defence 🤷‍♀️

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:24

Yewhedge

That advice says kids over 12 should wear masks inline with adults which is exactly what happens now - shops and transport etc

Til adults are forced to wear a mask 7 hours a day at work, kids shouldn’t either- it’s a disgraceful abuse of their age. Kids have no choice but to go to school

Enough to enough

Vinoonasunnyday · 22/08/2020 22:27

God with the volume of parents here do people genuinely not give a shit about their kids

Who would genuinely make their child wear a mask all day when they have no benefit to them and a single teacher hasn’t been proven to catch the virus anywhere worldwide

What kind of parent would do that genuinely I can’t understand it
