Face mask - levels of compliance in your area

I’ve been to a number of small and large shops (In Suffolk) yesterday and today, and all but two of around 100-200 adults were wearing a mask/face covering, and 95%+ of those were wearing it correctly (ie over face and nose). I was surprised, firstly, that compliance was so high and, secondly, at how much people seemed to treat it like second nature and often wore their masks outside and between shops when they didn’t have to.

It would be interesting to know how common this has been elsewhere as i’ve read other reports that seem to indicate uptake is less blanket. Are certain areas more compliant than others?

Only popped into Tesco, but looked like everyone wearing one.

I am not surprised, people may not want to, but they still will, which is pretty much what everyone on MN has said.

Compliance here is close to 100%. Oxfordshire.

I’m not surprised. The majority of Brits are just very awkward and wouldn’t have wanted to wear the masks if they’re the only ones doing it. Make it mandatory and problem solved.

So where do we have to wear one now? Shops/ takeaway/ service stations? Petrol stations? Sorry to sound daft..been visiting family all week in Wales. Returning late next week so want to be ready.

@Yetiyoga yes - any shop and if getting takeaway (but not if you are eating on the premises). Not in gyms or pubs.
My son works in a clothing shop and says everyone wore one yesterday, including staff. In a specialised shop today they only allowed us in if we were there for something specific (no browsing), we wore masks but the staff did not. Just about everyone seemed to be wearing it where they are supposed to.

100 percent in Hertfordshire where we are.

I went to Tesco last night, 100% compliance

ASDA earlier, I saw five people not wearing one. One guy was walking round with a mask in his hand

What is the thinking behind supermarket workers not having to wear a face covering by law?

DH nipped to Waitrose (market town in Hampshire) today and everyone was wearing a mask.

I have been so amazed with compliance where I am, well done Buckinghamshire! Have seen only 2 people without, one I reckon was excusable, the other looked like they didn't care (but perhaps also had a reason)

DH & I both each forgot once today. We are weak links.
I don't pay much attention to what others do.

I went to tesco yesterday and 100% compliance, dh went to sainsbury/argos today and also 100%. In northampton. Interesting as we are on the watch list

I'd say 100% compliance today in LIDL in the West Midlands but depressingly a lot were the blue disposable ones.

Wiltshire, I went to the shop earlier and only saw 1 person without a mask which I was really impressed with. He was with someone who was wearing one so I think he may have had a reason he can't wear one.

In Scotland and pretty much 100% of people wearing them. Many just wearing them on the street between shops as well. Shop staff here also wear them unless they are actually behind the counter or checkout where there is a screen. Children wear them as well over the age of 5 and people are just getting on with it.

Almost everyone bar maybe 2-3 people who could have been exempt, actually there was one woman who tried to get in Asda but was stopped at the door, I only heard the shop assistant saying she couldn't stop her entering but the policy was to wear a mask and there was some by the door if she wanted to buy one. The woman declined and went into the shop anyway.

I did notice people putting their masks on in the car and then making their way to the shops and after I posted on another thread where almost no one was wearing a mask, I was quite surprised. I expected most to put it on as they entered the shop and then remove them straight away. Hopefully this shit show can be over and done with ASAP!

Greater Manchester area (not the city itself). Went to a large tesco this morning and it was busy. I'd say 95% of people were wearing masks. Very few weren't.

That said, went to collect a takeaway from the next village this evening and of the 4 other people I saw getting takeaways, none were wearing masks. Admittedly, in the villages, there have been no new cases for weeks but still.

Majority without masks here in our part of Essex.

I went to Redhill yesterday (Surrey - South of London) Compliance very high.

100% compliance in the 2 shops I went to today (petrol station and Homebase, the glamour!) in W London.

Full compliance where I shopped today.

Full compliance in a Birmingham suburb supermarket today.

Majority without masks here in our part of Essex.

Interesting anomaly in an otherwise consistent set of responses.... What type of shops were they?
