I'm losing friends because I have coronavirus

I'm not sure what I want from this thread, a hand hold I guess.

This morning I received my test results and I'm positive. I put a post on Facebook set to just family and friends, warning people who've had contact with me to get tested and highlighting the need to watch out for symptoms other than the textbook ones.

I'm worried about my elderly mum who has hypertension who I've had direct contact with so my anxiety is through the roof and I'm scared.

Somebody I've known for thirteen years jumped on the post taking the mick saying if I get run over by a lorry in the next few weeks they'll put me down as a covid death as it's not a real virus but a government ploy. I told him now wasn't the time for conspiracy theories and to leave me be, he said he was removing me because I "believe the government" and he blocked me.

Somebody else I've known for a long time came on saying how the virus isn't real and "they" have given me a positive result to keep the numbers up.

Both people I've been friendly with for a long time and had no idea they held these types of views. The last thing I needed today was to deal with this. I thought I was doing the right thing by warning people to look out for symptoms other than the textbook ones (because I had none of them) Sad

AIBU to think these people were never friends in the first place.

@lljkk

OP, you posted a few times that you had symptoms like glandular fever -- but never fever itself. So I'm confused. What does glandular fever 'feel' like if not the symptoms in this graphic?
I was referring to the swollen glands and tonsillitis feeling. The way my throat and neck felt was comparable to when I had GF.

I already pointed out I didn't have a fever.

Thank you to those who've defended my corner against the arseholes who like to stick the boot in.

A family member I was in close contact with last Sunday has tested negative and has let me know. Thats fab news and hopefully means my DM will be in the clear too as I haven't seen her since either.

Feeling a bit ropey today so I'm pleased DH will be isolating with me to help with the DC.

Very pleased to see you telling the arseholes on the thread to piss off.

There’s nothing dramatic about telling 16 people you’ve been diagnosed.

As you can see for yourself, they have entered the Mumsnet Cunt Olympics. Not worth your time. Flowers

Yellowc · 23/07/2020 10:08

Thanks captain, I agree.

I'm just rolling my eyes at such responses now. It's clear they just want to stir the pot.

Crumpets people employed four months ago by T and T are logging on in the morning and learning languages. They work from home. They do the training. They are paid. They haven't had a single call, nor have they made a single call because it's not running in their area. It isn't working

Inkpaperstars · 23/07/2020 10:55

I agree too Captain, good for you OP.

Keeping a diagnosis secret is the exact opposite of what people should do. Not only might you have passed it on or caught it at the same place, but people also need to be aware that cases are still occurring around them. The Facebook responses drive home that people need a dose of reality. Some of the responses here are bizarre.

Brew and Cake for your OP, you've done well in sharing your diagnosis and you've done well dealing with the unhelpful responses here.

Haenow · 23/07/2020 10:57

@Crumpets111

OP said it was only 16 people so she didn’t broadcast it to hundreds of acquaintances, colleagues and neighbours.

Mimishimi · 23/07/2020 11:00

I thought you were going to say you are losing friends because they are scared on contracting it but the reasons they have given are very odd!! If you are a real conspiracy theorist, you totally believe in this virus!! Think science experiments run by a notorious regime...

netflixismysidehustle · 23/07/2020 11:07

@Crumpets111

That's exactly what T&T is for, it's not spiteful but truthful, a personal text would of been sufficient tbh, and other people are allowed opinions of their own even if you do not agree with them.
T and T contacted OP many hours (days?) after her positive test result. OP warning her close contacts as soon as possible means that they can self isolate sooner and control the spread. T and T don't tell you who the person you've had 15 minutes contact is. I'd rather know which of my contacts had CV rather than receive a call from T and T. I realise that's not always possible but it's good to know where you might have contracted it if you get a positive
Yellowc · 23/07/2020 11:31

I wasn't sure how efficient T&T would be to be honest, I wanted to be sure I'd done my bit and I'm satisfied it was the right thing to do.

Just to reassure others though they do seem to be on the ball with it, at least the ones who handled my case. Two people on the list were contacted within an hour or so of me submitting their details.

The virus isn’t real?

Fab, I’ll let DH know that the patients on his intensive care ward are faking it for the government. Oh and those silly jokers in the lab must be in on it too!

God these people are idiots, it honestly scares me that people like this exist never mind feel entitled to air their views openly berating those who don’t agree with them! OP you’re better without them in your life, good riddance and get well soon xxx

PotassiumChloride · 14/06/2021 21:44

Neither of them sound any great loss, so I wouldn’t lose sleep over it.

Not sure I’d announce a medical issue on FB but I understand your rationale for doing so.

Gorkastalker · 14/06/2021 21:55

OP had covid nearly a year ago. I would hope they're over it by now!

CrocodilesCry · 14/06/2021 21:59

Zombie thread - @PotassiumChloride why resurrect it? Hopefully OP is fully recovered nearly a year on.

BarbarianMum · 14/06/2021 22:01

Catching COVID quite often causes a resurgence of the Epstein Barr (glandular fever) virus in the body from where it lies dormant. Which is probably why you've had some glandular fever like symptoms.

BarbarianMum · 14/06/2021 22:02

Oh ffs, a COVID infected zombie. Hmm
