I'm losing friends because I have coronavirus

I'm not sure what I want from this thread, a hand hold I guess.

This morning I received my test results and I'm positive. I put a post on Facebook set to just family and friends, warning people who've had contact with me to get tested and highlighting the need to watch out for symptoms other than the textbook ones.

I'm worried about my elderly mum who has hypertension who I've had direct contact with so my anxiety is through the roof and I'm scared.

Somebody I've known for thirteen years jumped on the post taking the mick saying if I get run over by a lorry in the next few weeks they'll put me down as a covid death as it's not a real virus but a government ploy. I told him now wasn't the time for conspiracy theories and to leave me be, he said he was removing me because I "believe the government" and he blocked me.

Somebody else I've known for a long time came on saying how the virus isn't real and "they" have given me a positive result to keep the numbers up.

Both people I've been friendly with for a long time and had no idea they held these types of views. The last thing I needed today was to deal with this. I thought I was doing the right thing by warning people to look out for symptoms other than the textbook ones (because I had none of them) Sad

AIBU to think these people were never friends in the first place.

Sounds like you've had a rough time. I hope you get through this soon Flowers. Thanks for raising awareness of other symptoms.

SouthernskinNorthernsoul · 22/07/2020 15:00

I think people are giving you an overly hard time on this thread! I think you did the right thing given people still seem to think this is fake, which is absurd. Hopefully your post will have made someone think twice about the fact they might be asymptomatic. I hope you recover quickly and the virus doesn't affect you too badly.

cretelover · 22/07/2020 15:13

They sound nuts. hope you feel better soon Flowers

oTurnToPage394o · 22/07/2020 15:32

Clearly what you should have done OP was not tell anyone after you got your positive result and left the T&T people to inform your friends and family in their own time Hmm
Obviously the majority of posters on here would've done that Confused

Anyway, hope you're feeling better soon OP and the rest of your family remain well too Flowers

And remember, in future only think about yourself!

user1493494961 · 22/07/2020 15:43

There are some horrible people on this thread, I hope you feel better soon.

NLM20 · 22/07/2020 15:49

@Yellowc Glad you are feeling better and no untoward symptoms and hope you have no other worse symptoms. Just wanted to know what your symptoms were other than the sore throat? I went to the zoo last week after pretty much shielding and am freaked out I have a sore throat but no other symptoms. It’s the nature of this pandemic I think. I wouldn’t normally worry about something small.

Coyoacan · 22/07/2020 15:50

I do like mumsnet, there are many decent and kind folk here. I'm not deterred by the earlier nastiness

I'm glad because those first few responses in particular were horrible and unnecessarily nasty.

Thanks again everybody for the kindness.

Hi NLM,

I went to the zoo last monday. The first thing I noticed that is probably connected was some mild nausea on the Tuesday evening. When i woke up on the Wednesday my throat felt a bit restricted and my glands were up. It started to feel a bit like glandular fever.

I had a couple of days of that before it turned into typical cold symptoms which were a very blocked runny nose and sneezing. I had that for a couple of days and then I felt much better.

By Sunday I was practically back to normal but posted the test anyway on Monday morning.

Yellowc · 22/07/2020 16:12

I forgot to include in my last post, thrush down below.

Sorry for the TMI.

It may or may not be connected but it's not something I get very often at all and happened along with the other symptoms I mentioned above.

I do have some slight stomach trouble at the minute but I think that's largely due to the amount of vitamin C I'm consuming (doctors advice)

"I do regret posting on Facebook now."

No, it was absolutely the right thing to do. These idiots who don't believe in it need to be aware of someone they know who have it.

NLM20 · 22/07/2020 16:29

Hope you continue to feel okay. I also had sepsis postnatally and have been very easy to worry about health ever since. This forum has been amazing for information and support and I think you were very thoughtful to tell other people and warn others and this forum is for support.

Haenow · 22/07/2020 16:31

Oh no, how horrible of you to share that you have a highly contagious virus with a while sixteen (!!) other people and let them know they may be at risk. What a terrible human you are! Go and sit on the naughty step. You said you’re 26? 26 minutes on the naughty step!

Honestly, @Yellowc. Ignore the plethora of twats. I’m glad you’re ok. :) Flowers

@Stircrazyschoolmum

I just want to send you a hug. It must feel horrid being stuck at home with your DC worrying about your mum and feeling unsupported by friends.

If you want to share your experience in a more positive way (as opposed to getting flamed on here) have a look at the Zoe app and any studies your local hospital is doing into asymptomatic/ unusual symptoms, also antibodies/T-cell studies. There are far fewer cases around at the moment so you may be able to make a truly valuable contribution.

Perhaps on a new thread on the co-vid board you could also share your experiences of track and trace (good and bad) plus any tips on how you remembered all the people you had been in contact with. (The zoo is going to be an interesting one?)

I genuinely believe you were well intentioned (if misguided) in sharing your experience, don’t let unkind or uninformed comments upset you. I hope your mum is ok xx

Why misguided?!

Your post comes across as really thoughtful and informative, then you call the OP misguided. It's really not necessary - she's done nothing wrong!

kimlo · 22/07/2020 16:36

I would rather know if someone I had been in contact with had a positive test, I would want to know if a friend had tested positive because I care about my friends.

The people who have an issue with it are just angry that you have gone against their very strongly held beliefs, they only want to hear things that validate their world view, even if they are wrong. Thats not your issue.

Do track and trace ask where you have been or just who you have been with? Do they ask if you were wearing masks? No reason for asking just wondering how it works.

Yellowc · 22/07/2020 16:37

Thank you all for talking to me. It means alot.

I've been waiting for MNHQ to move my thread to the coronavirus board but they haven't gotten around to it so I've started a thread there. I can see I've irritated some people by posting here for some reason

OP posts:
morefun · 22/07/2020 16:37

The poster only contacted 16 people on FB, hardly attention seeking. Don't worry about those friends who gave you weird responses OP. You were trying to do the right thing. Hope you're feeling better soon.

They ask where I've been up to two days before my symptoms began, also who I've had direct contact with IE visitors to the house.

Masks weren't mentioned.

Ignore the unhelpful, mean comments. Hope you are ok Flowers

Covidisdrivingmecrazy · 22/07/2020 16:48

The test is very specific (+95%).You don't get false positives. The issue is with false negatives

EarlGreywithLemon · 22/07/2020 16:52

You’ve done nothing wrong OP! Your “friends“ on the other hand... good riddance, I’d say!
Hope you’re feeling OK, take care of yourself and rest as much as you can.
It’s interesting that they tell you not to bother testing after 5 days of symptoms, but it did give a positive after that time. It shows that if in doubt, it definitely is worth having a test.
Out of interest, did they tell you how long to isolate for?

Ive had conflicting advice on that one.

The text and email I got with my results say I can go out in public 7 days after my symptoms begin providing I haven't had a temp within the past 48 hours.

My GP said she would suggest I stay in for 7 days from receiving my result, so a week from today.

OP posts:
Yellowc · 22/07/2020 16:54

Ive never had a temperature though afaik.

The thermometer doesn't work as it needs new batteries but at no point have I felt hot.

OP posts:
EarlGreywithLemon · 22/07/2020 17:02

That’s why I always wonder about taking temperatures in restaurants, airports etc. So many people don’t have a temperature.
The main thing is that you’re feeling well now, hopefully that’ll be the back of Covid for you. Hope your DC are OK too, and fingers crossed for your mum.
Keep chatting when/if you’re worried. It’s totally understandable!

Yellowc · 22/07/2020 17:07

I'm sure I'll be ok. It's helped hearing positive outcomes.

I'm feeling a bit spacey and on alert at the moment but that'll be my anxiety and PTSD. When it's triggered I tend to feel rough for the rest of the day, too much adrenaline I guess.
