Is anyone thinking of keeping kids off school in Aug/Sep?

I know a lot can change before then.

And I know lots of kids are desperate to go back and parents desperate for them to go back.

But is anyone considering at this stage keeping them home a little longer?

A secondary school around the corner from me, East Midlands (not Leicester) shut from yesterday due to a case. A teacher apparently.
I'm a teacher. My husband is ecv. I'm very worried.

Flowers @ElizabethMainwaring sorry you have to worry

ElizabethMainwaring · 15/07/2020 06:49

Thank you @labyrinthloafer
You've been very kind to me on another thread too.
I do wonder what is going to happen in September.
Our Head is telling us his plans this week.
I'll keep you updated.
I think that the face coverings business will put a spanner in the works.
If children over the age of 11 have to wear masks in shops, why not schools?
Teachers like wise?
Our kids come into school on buses from miles around. I don't know how that is going to work either.
Posters in the Staffroom reckon that there will be a mass exodus of teachers at Christmas. Handing in notice date is the end of October.

@ElizabethMainwaring Promise I am not stalking you round the boards haha! But personally I would have supported a teacher strike over covid and said the same to our head, so maybe your worries have really resonated with me. I have been worrying for some of my child's teachers, who I know will be in risk categories.

“ ........ I will never take schooling for granted again”.

That’s good to read. There aren’t many positives in this situation but I hope this will be one of them for many people.

HathorX · 15/07/2020 11:16

Absolutely not. Back to school, fingers crossed!

Alex50 · 15/07/2020 12:22

How long do you keep children off school, until there’s a vaccine?

sunseekin · 15/07/2020 12:27

@kevinbacone

I'll happily keep mine off OP if I think it's not safe to send them. The government have made a rats arse of every decision they've made and forcing kids back to school if the circumstances aren't right could end up being the next 'care homes' cock-up of the management of this.
Exactly my thoughts.

@ElizabethMainwaring I’ve notice she spreads nice happy and very sensible vibes around the place. I’ve noticed the union websites still seem to display the situation for the current guidelines. Probably to avoid confusing things. I also doubt they won’t to start talks now as the situation so fluid. I think in 3/4 weeks when it becomes obvious if things are going up or down they’ll step in. It’s all an absolute farce from the government, they’re playing games. It’s absolutely shocking.
