So who's going to the pub/ restaurants?

Anyone? Obviously it's good to support local business, but long-term the point of going is for atmosphere and to socialise. Neither are really going to be possible under social distancing guidelines. I think the new normal will be going around to mates houses. No-one I know is planning on going out anytime soon. Maybe if we get good weather and there's a decent beer garden....what does everyone else think?

I’m booked into the beer garden at the end of my road on Monday.

Stellakent · 03/07/2020 18:44

Off to the pub for Sunday lunch with a couple of friends. Really looking forward to it. Table booked.

ThursdayLastWeek · 03/07/2020 18:45

Not me. I’m in cornwall and waiting to see what happened this week before I start venturing anywhere too busy.

ThursdayLastWeek · 03/07/2020 18:47

But I agree with you OP, we have friends coming over for a birthday celebration neat weekend. It just feels safer somehow.

PepperMooMoo · 03/07/2020 18:47

I'm booked in for two weeks on a Wednesday for dinner with a friend. Really looking forward to it!

Qasd · 03/07/2020 18:48

Yes Sunday have an outside table booked at one of our favourites, just our household so no need to social distance at the table. They are small family owned place and I am keen to support them!

InOutofmymind · 03/07/2020 18:48

No, it's a stupid idea opening on July 4th, Independence day in the USA, i know Johnson is up Trumps arse but this is ridiculous, its just another PR stunt.

One of our locals is opening on Monday, far more sensible.

yearinyearout · 03/07/2020 18:49

If possible yes. I won't be going anywhere tomorrow but we are away during the week and I hope to be able to have a meal out or a couple of drinks. Will see how the land lies.

FallingIguanas · 03/07/2020 18:52

Holding out here. We've been using local pubs/restaurants for takeouts since lockdown but they are scaling back these on reopening. Understandable but frustrating for people like me who think the idea of sitting in a pub with lots of strangers isn't a particularly attractive option. I may be persuaded by a beer garden though.

LilyPond2 · 03/07/2020 18:52

Definitely not me for the time being. Going to the pub or eating out is supposed to be an enjoyable experience. If I went out for a drink or meal now, the experience would be ruined by worry about contracting Covid. I've checked out the statistics for where I live and can see that where I live has high rates of infection. But the government's "one size fits all " policy means the the pubs will be reopening regardless. Envious of the Scots and Welsh with their more responsible governments.

chancechancechance · 03/07/2020 18:54

Like everything I will go when braver people have been and reported back! I have a work colleague going on Sunday and they have promised a review for me.

Can anyone understand why you are required to give your contact details when you enter a pub?

mightbealittlebitmad · 03/07/2020 20:28

Well I work in one so I kind of have to be there. Would rather be going for a drink! I'm looking forward to going back though, it will hopefully be a nice change of scenery for me.

Wynona · 03/07/2020 20:30

mightbealittlebitmad glad to hear that. Do you know why contact details have to be given?

MarcelineMissouri · 03/07/2020 20:32

@Wynona it’s for track and trace - if someone who was in the pub tests positive for cv they will need to be able to trace the people who were there at the same time.

MarcelineMissouri · 03/07/2020 20:33

We have dinner booked on Sunday night. Also going to the cinema next weekend. Very excited to have some more normal plans in the diary!

Isotope456 · 03/07/2020 20:34

I'm not but I'd definitely consider a restaurant in a couple of weeks. I'll wait to see how it pans out with pubs but I wouldn't rule it out, depending on the pub and the set up.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 03/07/2020 20:35

Not this weekend as I'm on furlough and can't really afford to be going out. I go back to work next month so I'll be going then.

Wynona · 03/07/2020 20:35

Thanks MarcelineMissouri just curious, if I were in the pub with someone I might not have been closer than 2m. Does that mean that I and everyone with me would have to self isolate if someone in the pub tests positive?

Onesipmore · 03/07/2020 20:35

Yes, our local. Table booked for me and dh. Tables spaced out with perspex barriers ad lovely (large) beer garden. Not worried.

Catastrofuck · 03/07/2020 20:37

I have a newborn and a toddler. We can’t leave them behind and we aren’t welcome with them.
