So who's going to the pub/ restaurants?

Anyone? Obviously it's good to support local business, but long-term the point of going is for atmosphere and to socialise. Neither are really going to be possible under social distancing guidelines. I think the new normal will be going around to mates houses. No-one I know is planning on going out anytime soon. Maybe if we get good weather and there's a decent beer garden....what does everyone else think?

@annabel85 the media are doing their usual scare mongering, best to ignore them.

Wynona · 03/07/2020 21:24

@MarcelineMissouri thank you. I really appreciate you helping me understand.

Does that mean that the contact tracers contact the pub? Do the contract tracers then ask for a list of everyone who has been to the pub? Contact tracers then contact the patrons to warn them that they might be at risk. I wonder what questions they ask to work out how the risk is?

Justeats · 03/07/2020 21:33

I don’t know why people are so excited about going to the pub. Once you’re in the pub (if you can get in) you’re sat in a seat and that’s it - there will be no socialising (unless you’re with someone else in your bubble which can only be one other household). There’s no music, no sports on the telly, no calling across the pub to other people you may know. You literally sit there with someone you live with or maybe another friend and drink. You could do exactly the same for a fraction of the cost in your own home or garden and have a much more sociable time surely?

Change of scenery, something different to do. I don't walk in the same place all the time if I go for a walk because I like a change, going to the pub is the same.
LovingLen · 03/07/2020 21:48

I won’t be going, l don’t go to the shops either unless I have to, the joy has been sucked out of everything. Sitting in somewhere, not being able to move around and having to dodge round people is not my idea of a good time

MarcelineMissouri · 03/07/2020 21:50

@Wynona no problem. Although I should add this is just my understanding of how things work! Yes the contact tracer would get the details from the pub and then contact the people on the list. I imagine they would have got details of the infected persons movements and be trying to match up times etc to what you did on your visit to work out of you could be at risk. As I say, hopefully if people follow the distancing guidelines then there shouldn’t be too many (or any) people at the pub being asked to isolate. As far as I’m aware the contact tracers ask fairly detailed questions, it wouldn’t just be a case if ‘were you at X pub on Saturday night? You need to isolate then’

LimitIsUp · 03/07/2020 21:52

Booked a table for Sunday evening on Dh's birthday. I would rather go now when the the incidence on the Hampshire / Wiltshire border is 1 case per 100,000 over the past week, than go a few weeks down track when it may ( I expect it to) have risen

OrangeSamphire · 03/07/2020 21:53

We’d love to. But unfortunately opening up all the tourist / holiday accommodation on the same day means our local area will be very busy which will make it unpleasant.

So we will be staying at home until September.

Beatrixpotterspencil · 03/07/2020 21:55

I’m not doing it, but I didn’t anyway, unless I’d been on a hike, etc.

To everyone who is, I hope you have a good time, it’s a crazy world but we need some fun, have a few on me! x

OhMyDarling · 03/07/2020 21:57

Not a chance!!!
Not even slightly inclined.

And then waiting for the phone call telling you to self isolate
Hollyhead · 03/07/2020 21:59

Restaurants/cafes yes definitely as soon as tomorrow lunchtime if possible, pubs no, I like to drink at home :)

Beatrixpotterspencil · 03/07/2020 22:02

Also I was listening to this cos I like the doors and thought of the uk and covid.

"Well, show me the way
To the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why
Show me the way
To the next whisky bar
Oh, don't ask why
Oh, don't ask why
For if we don't find
The next whisky bar
I tell you we must die
I tell you we must die
I tell you, I tell you
I tell you we must die
Oh, moon of Alabama
We now must say goodbye
We've lost our good old mama
And must have whiskey, oh, you know why“

Icanseeclearlynow12 · 03/07/2020 22:02

I'm back at work in a village pub tomorrow. If I wasn't working I probably wouldn't be going to one for a while tbh.
I was actually quite looking forward to getting back to work until I heard that someone I know from the town I live is in has just gone into Intensive care with covid, brings it home that this virus is far from over

Uhoh2020 · 03/07/2020 22:03

I think I'm most looking forward to a change of scenery something different from the same 4 walls I've felt trapped in, moving from bedroom to living room to garden is wearing a bit thin now. I want to see other people even If it's just a wave across the room. My local is fairly relaxed and calm anyway so I'm confident that we'll all be able to stay sensible. There'll be no dancing on tables or brawls at the end of the night.

ProfessorPootle · 03/07/2020 22:05

Nope, I’ve not been anywhere since lockdown started, not even to the supermarket. Going to take a while before I go out places again.

shinynewapple2020 · 03/07/2020 22:08

I don't think I'll be planning on going inside a pub or restaurant in the short term but a meal and drink in a non-crowded beer garden might be appealing on a nice day. We will be going on holiday at the end of the month and hope to be able to get a table in a beer garden then

Bol87 · 03/07/2020 22:15

I’d love to go for dinner but alas, newborn & 3 year old and no childcare = no chance 😩 I’ve been enjoying the takeaways from all the local restaurants, I’m sad they are mostly stopping 😭

Boredsilly · 03/07/2020 22:16

We are going out to our local Indian for dinner tomorrow night and I cannot wait!!

girlicorne · 03/07/2020 22:18

We are going to a theme park and have restaurants booked tomorrow and Sunday and we ll have some beers on park tomorrow and in the hotel bar afterwards. I absolutely cannot wait!! If we were at home we would t bother going to our local though it all seems like too much hassle and the weather is rubbish which rules out beer gardens for now!!

secretllama · 03/07/2020 22:19

Booked to go to a restaurant for lunch on the 17th (I'm in Scotland so not opening till the 15th) but no way would I go to a pub. It doesnt sound enjoyable...at least at the restaurant I'm getting food I wouldnt normally have at home, but I can drink at home with friends from next week and not have to worry about being shouted at for having a dance etc.

Spacemonkey2016 · 03/07/2020 22:33

Have a 3 year old a 5 month old, so while there's still distancing from family inside, there'll be no meals out for us.

I will, however, be in a playground bright and early to push my son on a swing before they get packed. How very rock 'n' roll of me 😂😂

Redwinestillfine · 03/07/2020 22:45

Ooh, those going out please report back on what it was like....

HairyToity · 03/07/2020 22:52

No, I'd love to support local shops and the pubs, but DH has type 1 diabetes and we are being very careful. We might have a BBQ on Sunday.

GervaseFen · 03/07/2020 23:06

I think going to a pub is so irresponsible - there is no way that drunk people will maintain social distancing so even if you are there and sensible you will be part of the transmission.
