Important points in the summary:

  • The majority of the difference is due to socio-economic, health and disability factors
  • Even after that if you fall into the various Black, Bangladeshi and Pakistani ethnic groups there are still differences that can't be accounted for.

Sorry was in response to @Alex50

picklemewalnuts · 07/05/2020 11:04

And thin, although not included in those tables.

BeforeIPutOnMyMakeup · 07/05/2020 11:48

@Alex50 Black women die at a higher rate than anyone.

@picklemewalnuts that comes under health and disability factors.

Women overall are I think about 70% less likely to die from coronvirus

FTMF30 · 07/05/2020 12:33

@Aex50 That's so inappropriate.

Namechangervaver · 07/05/2020 12:40

I've just scanned the link, but wasn't it taken using the 2011 census? I bet the proportion of BAME in the uk has increased since then.

Alex50 · 07/05/2020 12:40

Why? It’s a fact

FTMF30 · 07/05/2020 12:45

@Alex50 was your last comment in response to me? If so, I it's inappropriate to put a happy smiley face at the fact that you fall into a group of people at less risk of dying from CV whilst others may not. You're ok but who gives a fuck about the elderly, men, BAME people aye?

Coronabored · 07/05/2020 12:55

I'm a man and I don't think it was inappropriate. Makes me happy for my wife and daughters.

ChippityDoDa · 07/05/2020 12:59

Well that’s good news for a lot of the population then isn’t it. And helpful for those more at risk and for the government to put in extra protection for them and extra support.

ChippityDoDa · 07/05/2020 13:00

*That last bit about support from the government possibly said ironically.

Alex50 · 07/05/2020 17:16

@FTMF30 you are going to be one angry person at all the young healthy young women who are walking around this earth, what a way to look at life 🤷‍♀️

FTMF30 · 07/05/2020 17:45

@Alex50 I'm not angry at all the young, healthy women 🙄. FYI, I am a young, healthy woman. I said your smiley face was inappropriate.

Alex50 · 07/05/2020 18:15

I don’t think so and i’m not a healthy young woman

LipsyGirl · 07/05/2020 18:21

Apparently so, wondering about mixed race people, my DS is half white half black

BlackForestCake · 07/05/2020 18:39

Black women die at a higher rate than anyone.

If it kills more men than women and more black people than white people, which seems fairly well established, how can this be true?

june2007 · 07/05/2020 18:42

Not ok but less at risk.

Ponoka7 · 07/05/2020 18:53

Black women are 4.3 times more likely to die than their white counterparts. Black men 4.2, so not much difference.

One theory put forward is the strong immune response, which works against the body when fighting off Covid-19.

Ponoka7 · 07/05/2020 18:54

But other figures have put the difference at only twice as likely. That's still a lot, obviously.

One of the treatments the Oxford team are looking at includes immune support.

Myfriendanxiety · 07/05/2020 18:57

According to an America study people with Rhesus negative blood are also are lower risk of dying.

derenstar · 07/05/2020 19:09

So how comes deaths in Africa and India from Covid-19 is so low if black and Asian people are more at risk? Plenty of poor people with underlying health conditions in those counties. What is it about THIS Country that increases their risk?

HairyFloppins · 07/05/2020 19:12

Well I am disgusting fat person so I’m not leaving the house. I am however o neg so the comment above is positive.
