I have gone nuts and paid someone to come to my house and do an antibody test on us

LaurieFairyCake · 05/05/2020 13:09

Can't take anymore not knowing so I've paid £260 to bike out a test from a lab and wait while we stab ourselves and return our blood to the lab

Dh thinks I've gone a bit batshit but I couldn't take anymore

Disclaimer : it won't affect my behaviour in line with current government guidelines

Treated are showing as in stock and delivered for tomorrow for me SpicyTomatos. I'm not particularly bothered about having to wait a few days extra as it wont affect anything, it's just for interest really

SirVixofVixHall · 14/05/2020 14:05

I have ordered the Abbott one. Is the Roche one more accurate then ? Might have to do a second test. ( Not for me, for my Dh who works in an emergency service, and had symptoms, but at the time -late Feb- we assumed too early on for it to be CV ) .

cathyandclare · 14/05/2020 14:12

I ordered one yesterday too- but since then there have been reports that it's missing people with antibodies.

Mangofandangoo · 14/05/2020 14:14

I'm not really sure why people are paying out hundreds of money for tests that aren't accurate? Especially when we will all eventually be tested for free with the test that has been approved.

If it isn't going to change your behaviour then what is the point?

There will be I companies laughing all the way to the bank of these are flying off the shelves.

Sorry I'm not being catty, I really just don't get it.

SpicyTomatos · 14/05/2020 14:23

@kingkuta if you order you will find out the website is not being completely honest. The earliest delivery is Monday and that is assuming the kits arrive with them tomorrow. I suspect the processing time will be longer as well. It's not necessarily a problem, but it might affect some people's decision,

Mindfulofmuddle · 14/05/2020 14:24

This is referencing the swab test, not the antibody test.
The Abbott antibody test is much the same as the Roche test.

kingkuta · 14/05/2020 14:40

That article is referencing a completely different test cathyandclare

kingkuta · 14/05/2020 14:42

Thanks SpicyTomatos. For 40-50 quid cheaper though I wouldnt mind waiting an extra day or two!

cathyandclare · 14/05/2020 14:43

You're absolutely right @kingkuta! That'll teach me to skim read Blush

CurlyEndive · 14/05/2020 14:47

Place marking to find out the result!

Well it’s all about who can afford it now isn’t it? It’s turning into what the rich can afford to do/have during the pandemic. It’s a really sad state of affairs people flaunting which antibody tests they’ve bought like it’s an accessory. But the most vulnerable in society are left behind, most have lost jobs, or are underpaid and no way of knowing if they’ve had it.

(Btw, I can easily afford the tests and can get tested at work but it’s a matter of principle and the fact they’re not reliable in terms of accuracy and turnaround time).

Ernieshere · 14/05/2020 16:35

@SirVixofVixHall I emailed Roche about 10 days ago, they replied the next day, their test will be conducted in a health care setting, as it requires someone taking blood from the vein, rather than a pin prick type test.

What a sad, narrowminded and bitter message... Did it ever occurred to you some people will soon have to decide whether to send their kids back to school and/or go back to work and therefore a £99 test can be a tempting bet to have some reassurance on what they are going towards, and possibly help them make a decision? It says a lot about you the fact that you are following this thread only to criticise people who are genuinely interested in the oucome...

imsooverthisdrama · 14/05/2020 17:10

Still no news ?, over a week when supposed to be 2 days . Is it a con ?

SirVixofVixHall · 14/05/2020 17:55

Thanks Erniesrailway
Have bought this one now, so he is about to do it, and then if it is negative he can try the Roche later.
Will update when we get results.

NettleTea · 14/05/2020 18:20

@Ernieshere did they say you could book in to have it anywhere?

CherryStoneTree · 14/05/2020 19:20

@minny80 where did you get your test done?

What the treated test that people have talked about?

OP, the fact your test hasn’t been run isn’t filling me with hope. I paid for the test but not dispatched......

CoCoCorona · 14/05/2020 19:32

Yes I’m following the thread because this pandemic is really creating a divide between the rich and poor and this thread shows how antibody tests are being used as an unnecessary accessory.

“Which test have you taken? I took the one costing £69”
“Oh I took the naice test that’s better than the Abbott one only cost me £250, but hey darling gotta find out if I’ve had the Rona..”

It’s actually quite sickening. But I hope you all get the results and manage to get on with life again.

minny80 · 14/05/2020 19:52

@CherryStoneTree I've used www.londondoctorsclinic.co.uk

AgathaX · 14/05/2020 20:28

Coco if this thread upsets you so much then perhaps you'd be better off not reading it rather than trying to derail it.

BiggestJulie · 14/05/2020 20:29

@LaurieFairyCake, it’s really disgraceful that you have not had a result yet, and as you have paid them a fair bit of money an auto responder email is not acceptable. I’m guessing they probably lost yours, but you should not only have a full refund, but a free re-test.

Good luck! V interested to hear your results. Please do post!

MyMonkeyIsATwat · 14/05/2020 22:04

I hope you get a refund.

JustMeAndMyTins · 14/05/2020 22:52

Abbott test is getting PHE approved, alongside Roche: www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8321239/Five-million-antibody-kits-standby-NHS-SECOND-test-approved-officials.html

CoCoCorona · 14/05/2020 23:32

@AgathaX last time I checked, I can post wherever I want.

Spillinteas · 14/05/2020 23:46

Oooh watching with interest! I’m convinced we’ve had it.

But I hope you all get the results and manage to get on with life again

Yes please!
