Self-Employed HMRC update

Snorkelface · 05/05/2020 10:50

HMRC has added a few updates for the self employed grant scheme.

www.gov.uk/guidance/claim-a-grant-through-the-coronavirus-covid-19-self-employment-income-support-scheme

While HMRC will be contacting eligible claimants directly over the next couple of weeks with more specific details you can now see if you're eligible to claim and what date you'll be able to lodge your claim by using their on-line tool (about half way down their web page).

You'll need your UTR and NI number to do this and it will also give you the opportunity to set up your Gateway account if you don't already have one and to update your contact details. It's a good idea to set this up now as the website is likely to get very busy when it goes live on 13th May.

You can find both your UTR and NI number on your tax return. If you're setting up your Gateway at the same time you'll need to provide email/mobile details and you'll need to set up additional security measures to identify you using either security questions or drivers license details or your passport. The system can time out so it's a good idea to have all the details to hand.

@pobparker pleased for you! Last week I was rolling my eyes at posters saying they wondered where their payment is, but I must admit I’m starting to feel anxious watching so many others get theirs in now Grin rocks in corner and reminds self it said six days and it doesn’t mean something’s gone wrong

ListeningQuietly · 18/05/2020 08:50

Stomzy
Yes HMRC have 'form' for going for the little firms

but when they are handing furlough money to Jim Ratcliffe and Philip Green and the Hindujas

they will find a lot of small businesses using their MPs to kick up an almighty stink
( I always get clients to copy their MP into formal complaints now - it works a treat )

Anniesnotmydaddy · 18/05/2020 09:21

You don't get a letter if you file your return electronically and have opted for electronic communications only. I don't get any letters from HMRC.

I had an email advising of the scheme, checked my detail and appointed time and then applied on that date. I haven't received the money yet but I know others who have.

For those entitled to a payment it's worked well.

pollysproggle · 18/05/2020 09:39

My grant is there today too! Very pleased

bookgirl1982 · 18/05/2020 09:48

@Bimbleboo ha, it gets everyone in the end! No sign of mine yet either...

Bimbleboo · 18/05/2020 09:56

@bookgirl1982 I feel bad now. I was very ‘oh for god sake they said six days chill out’ and now I’m like ‘wait, if everyone else has got it, where’s mine?! SOMETHING HAS GONE WRONG’ hahahaha.

MaddieElla · 18/05/2020 11:12

DH's is in there. Absolute kudos here to HMRC, who must be under immense pressure but have delivered anyway. I know there are people who slip through the cracks but ultimately they've saved a lot of people.

I have no guilt claiming and no worries about them investigating. DH is a carpenter and his income has gone from hero to zero overnight. No money earned whatsoever. We absolutely would be able to prove that there was a black hole during the pandemic.

He's not keen on going back until at least July, as he has to enter people's homes, so this money will have to last.

FannyFernackerpan · 18/05/2020 11:18

I claimed online on Thursday and found the whole process so simple and straightforward. As others have said, well done to HMRC. Haven't had payment yet but the fact that I know it's coming is a huge weight off my mind. I have earned exactly £165 so far in May and don't have a single job in, and none for the foreseeable.

userxx · 18/05/2020 13:32

@ListeningQuietly Have you made a claim? Just being nosy :)

Classiccar · 18/05/2020 13:55

Just popping by to confirm my money is entering my account tomorrow - day 6.

Bimbleboo · 18/05/2020 14:00

@classicar did you get an email/text? I’ve heard nothing and wasn’t aware they’d send one to tell us

ScarfLadysBag · 18/05/2020 14:03

They don't. Some bank accounts show you incoming payments a day or so before.

Bimbleboo · 18/05/2020 14:27

@scarfladysbag oh I see! Not mine. Thank you for that info. :)

LaurieFairyCake · 18/05/2020 14:29

I got my payment this morning - no text or email though

ListeningQuietly · 18/05/2020 14:38

I work through a limited company so get no help at all
as does my DH and he's facing 6 months with no income of any kind.

I've talked multiple clients through the process
and am impressed by the way Rishi Sunak has organised stuff.

@Bimbleboo

My bank tells me on my online app.

UselessTrees · 18/05/2020 22:01

Mine's just landed in my account. Phew.

MaHeidsGouping · 18/05/2020 22:47

I applied Wednesday, it's just went in. I was starting to panic a little since others had received theirs.

IsabelleSE19 · 18/05/2020 23:22

I applied Thursday and the money's there this evening. Very impressed!

Snorkelface · 18/05/2020 23:44

Yay! Good to hear people are getting the grant through. My bank have just said mine's arriving tomorrow (claim went in on Thursday). Also fingers crossed for anyone who applied for a review and for an update on any further funding from the government.

tryingtobeablogger · 19/05/2020 06:32

Morning all! Has anyone who applied for the grant been paid? I bank with Barclays and haven't been paid yet but have been lots of people who have. My friend who applied on the 13th hasn't been paid, yet my friend who applied on the 14th has...

Thinking it maybe to do with who you bank with?

tryingtobeablogger · 19/05/2020 06:32

Sorry! I've just seen some people have been paid x

bookgirl1982 · 19/05/2020 07:11

Mine arrived overnight, claimed on Wednesday.

tryingtobeablogger · 19/05/2020 07:23

@bookgirl1982 who do you back with? Mines still not in 👎🏼
