I'm horribly vain and a bit morbid

So I'm watching the news with DH and there is a backdrop montage of photos of those who have sadly died.
And I tell him which (flattering) photo of me he should release to the Press in the event of my death.

I just don't want to be remembered floating behind George Alagiah's head wearing something ill fitting which makes my bum look huge.

I'm a bad person

Haha your post made me laugh op! Wow there are some miserable people on here. I totally agree re looking at people's photos sometimes and thinking did they really not have a better picture anywhere? I've not actually chosen mine but may have to now.

TwentyViginti · 05/05/2020 10:09

a double chinned ham armed picture oh those photos! can totally relate Grin

Also, Flowers. Admire your bravery.

thenightsky · 05/05/2020 10:09

As soon as I read the OP my mind immediately jumped to my one good photo! I must make sure I share it with DH so he has it handy. He'd probably pick some awful selfie taken from below my chin with cheap reading glasses balanced on my nose and a deep frown.

BruceAndNosh · 05/05/2020 10:09

I'm wearing Bunny ears in my Facebook profile pic which is public.
I should change that to something better

FilledSoda · 05/05/2020 10:10

you'll always be beautiful to the people that love you

TwentyViginti · 05/05/2020 10:14

No, keep the bunny ears BruceAndNosh Grin

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 05/05/2020 10:14

I can relate, thenightsky.

DH fancies himself an essence capturing photographer and there are endless photos of me looking quite demented while holding a glass of wine or kissing the dogs.

I don't want those!

Isoneedtorun · 05/05/2020 10:14

"character" photos? Grin

Isoneedtorun · 05/05/2020 10:14

Yeah loving the bunny ears 😍

Terralee · 05/05/2020 10:17

It's not as dark as the conversation I had with a fellow healthcare worker recently - we decided we needed to lose weight because if we get hospitalised by the covid we don't want to need XL size pads.
And we decided that we really must sort out out our bikini areas for icu.

I hadn't thought about the photo issue but I am now lol!!

justanotherneighinparadise · 05/05/2020 10:23

Op that made me chuckle. It’s a black humour and I completely understand. No one wants to be remembered time immemorial with an unflattering head shot FFS. Select your photo now, that’s just common sense 👆

TwentyViginti · 05/05/2020 10:28

Oh no Terralee I'd need XL pads too! Shock

TherapistInATabard · 05/05/2020 10:29

My husband can't seem to see the difference in a double chinned ham armed picture and one where I look reasonably attractive

Oh, love him Flowers

I totally get it OP. A friend and I have a long-standing agreement that if either of us end up in a coma for whatever reason, the other will take care of facial hair. She's moved 150 miles away so it will be trickier now, but we'll make it work.

Of course that won't be possible if either of us ends up on a ventilator with covid-19. Fuck.

ReturnofSaturn · 05/05/2020 10:29

This made me laugh OP. Yes, morbid, but in a funny way.

TwentyViginti · 05/05/2020 10:30

Oh and greying pubes Sad may need to start vajazzling.

TherapistInATabard · 05/05/2020 10:31

Terralee XL pads for what????

Cathy? Is that you? It's me, Lizzie! I've still got my spare tweezers ready!

YANBU. Sometimes if my sister or I share a particularly flattering selfie with one another we will say ‘that’s what I’ll send to the press if you’re ever tragically killed’.

Some people use humour to deal with distressing things (hence the enormous popularity of podcasts like My Favourite Murder or All Killa no Filla), it really doesn’t make you a bad person!

Hedgehog44 · 05/05/2020 10:45

This has made me laugh! We will all be hunting out our attractive photos now just in case Grin

AuntieMarys · 05/05/2020 10:51

Made me laugh OP. And make sure it doesn't have bloody animal ears on it.

suggestionsplease1 · 05/05/2020 10:58

Heh, I get it OP! It makes me think back to a passport photo I used to have and a return flight to the UK when the woman at passport control looked at it and gushed 'O that's a really nice photo of you!' I started to walk away feeling a little bit chuffed and then thought 'O, that means I must really look like shit right now'.

mpsw · 05/05/2020 11:02

I haven't done this. But perhaps I should

But don't think it's weird or ghoulish, because 'picture to be released in event of my death' was something that at least some Armed Forces did before riskier deployments (so their newly bereaved relatives had one fewer thing to scrabble round for)

I don't want something capturing my essence. I want a photo where I look good

Hell, yes!

ILoveAnOwl · 05/05/2020 11:06

My family must all be morbid and vain as we have our 'death', photos picked out. Mum has even specified which one we should use on her funeral sheet.

MitziK · 05/05/2020 11:09

When I was getting worse around the eight day mark, I did my hair, eyebrows, ran the shaver over everything removed my full winter pelt, sorted out my nails, wore my nicest Pyjamas and had makeup on standby. My reasoning was that if I looked like I normally took better care of myself I don't, I might get slightly better treatment, as I had always found that hospital and doctor visits, both scheduled and emergency, always seemed to be nicer/less patronising if I looked less like I spent my life on the sofa watching soaps and more like I had a professional job and a brain.

And yeah, if I was going to expire, I wanted to do it without eight days' facial hair growth and with perfect eyebrows.

There's a whole load of patriarchy to unpack in my thought processes, but I get what the OP means. It's not inappropriate.

TherapistInATabard · 05/05/2020 11:16

Cathy? Is that you? It's me, Lizzie!

Unless you gave us both nicknames without telling me, no I don't think so Grin
