‘Is Boris off his head’ asks Europe

Zandathepanda · 04/05/2020 16:54

From the BBC news website:
^Today, Europe is hosting a virtual conference for world leaders and philanthropists in an effort to raise €7.5bn (£6.6bn; $8.3bn) to drive vaccine research.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is co-hosting the event, is expected to ask countries to pull together.^

So Boris is asking European countries to pull together. Whilst negotiating Brexit. Or not. Oh the irony.

But probably best to let the Johnson lovers persist with their delusions...

There are a few more people who like Boris than you might imagine. Hate to break it to you, but you’re not the world Smile

Hi OP I get it - there will be a Daily Mash articl on these lines soon if not already I bet!

However... I do genuinely think that European nations will view this issue as 'bigger than Brexit' and do the right thing / not laugh us out of talks!

I'm with you Zanda. Even more hilarious is the Telegraph front page today. "Boris leads £6bn global race for vaccine". Fuck off does he, the bafflegab.

This is a global initiative to respond to a global pandemic.
I know there was lots of confusion around the referendum where people conflated the UN, the UNHCR and NATO with the EU but surely people realise the difference by now? Britain voted to leave the EU. We are not refusing to work with other countries ever again.
I think other leaders will be busy wondering why the hell Boris is proud of such a high death rate, why we didn't lock down earlier and why he's trying to take us out of lockdown when the death rate is so high. I don't imagine anyone will care about rehashing the referendum yet again.

Boris is asking European countries to pull together

Op, just read the article for gods sake, 🤣🤣🤣🤣

He joining with many other counties in asking the world to pull together. It is not just europe. Europe is hosting with him. Co hosting means together.

He is co hosting with the European Commission, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Norway and Saudi Arabia, and him representing the uk.

Forty countries globally are attending.

Seriously. Read the article. And then get this deleted, it’s seriously cringe worthy, 🤣🤣🤣

Don’t write a vitriolic post if you don’t want the same back?

Sorry you are confused. The vote was a Cameron’s idea not Boris. The nation had a vote.both about Brexit and his government. Pretty sure the country would also like a vaccine. So he’s expediting that.

I agree, OP - the irony is stunning.

Also don’t understand the vitriol - maybe next time write about your penchant for drowning kittens at the weekend - you’ll get less abuse

30,000+ deaths. Something to smile at?
Sums it up, CendrillonSings.

Bluntness100 Absolutely, but I somehow don't think there's any point using logical explanations of the reality.

The irony is surely in it being Johnson, or indeed any person representing the UK government at the moment, having the brass neck to make any comment on how great it is for countries/commissions to 'pull together'. When practically the sole focus of said government has been, in Brexit, to be absolutely gung-ho about doing exactly the opposite?

Just read a list of all the European and international initiatives that the Brexit-backers have chosen to turn their backs on even when technically, they haven't needed to in order to still leave the Union - then look at someone like Johnson pontificating about how it's better to work together and keep a straight face (or not cry, of course).

Agree!

Co-hosting as a nation whose death rate is fast becoming the worst in Europe. Desperate times call for cooperation. Yes, the irony in believing you’re insulated in your small island and can manage on your own. Laughing stock of Europe.

In the Swiss news the conference is present but without mentioning the UK's role or Boris Johnson.

The general concern seems to be that the US is not part of the conference, and that there will be 5x more money necessary for the vaccine to become reality.

What pains me most about Brexit isn’t that it was a wrong decision but that it was a pointless unnecessary one. tens of thousands of government hours, hours which could and should have been spent solving housing, health, education, climate issues, were instead poured into a problem that was only ever a small issue for a small number of Tories and readers of the Daily Mail/Sun/Express.
Immigration was even as recently as about 2010, well, well down the list of voter concerns. But the above played the country like a fiddle.
Of course, the next decade will see many more millions of hours spent solving this fake problem, not to mention many billions of pounds, lost jobs and revenue.

I have no doubt a lot of people in the UK do love Johnson.

The man is a compulsive liar. He is lazy. He is a bull-shitter. (Apparently) he is also an adulterer with a few extra kids dotted around.

They are not my opinions - they are widely publicised comments from those who have known him, worked with him, and apparently slept with him over the years.

I mean......what's not to love?

You should - they expose the assertions on here that no one could possibly support Boris or the government as the baseless chunterings they are! Grin

The point of this thread is FLYING over the heads of the Johnson lovers.

It's not OP dying to start a thread on the detail, it's the other side dying to get the chance to shoot one down.

Weird.

Really there are a few names on here I'm (in a strange way) quite comforted to see - thinking from other boards that they're complete twat faces, and having it confirmed here is useful.
