‘Is Boris off his head’ asks Europe

Zandathepanda · 04/05/2020 16:54

From the BBC news website:
^Today, Europe is hosting a virtual conference for world leaders and philanthropists in an effort to raise €7.5bn (£6.6bn; $8.3bn) to drive vaccine research.
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who is co-hosting the event, is expected to ask countries to pull together.^

So Boris is asking European countries to pull together. Whilst negotiating Brexit. Or not. Oh the irony.

OP posts:

OP, please be kind to yourself and ask for this thread to be deleted.

FizzyGreenWater · 04/05/2020 17:43

Zandathepanda the scientists, universities and other countries in the world can't work together and trade freely because they are not in the EU and don't benefit from EU freedom of movement?

This scientist and her colleagues are no longer eligible for a whole raft of massive funding initiatives in the future thanks to Brexit, yes. But we eagerly await our own 350 million a week moment when we're showered with all the money the UK will save to make up for it, of course Grin

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2020 17:43

Nope, think she’s on a roll and gonna keep digging,,,😂

LivingOnAnIsland · 04/05/2020 17:44

Zandathepanda

Nice try, but take your shit-stirring somewhere else.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 04/05/2020 17:44

Well all countries need to find a vaccine, we’ve all got people dying from this virus.

Any decent country would pull together with other countries to find a vaccine quicker surely? To save more citizens from death.

It’s got fuck all to do with Boris. It’s got fuck all to do with Brexit

The public were given a vote and they wanted to leave the EU....I don’t see how that makes Boris a laughing stock tbh. This isn’t about brexit, it’s about finding a vaccine and saving people

I get maybe you’ve nothing better to do but this one Boris bashing thread that doesn’t work.

underneaththeash · 04/05/2020 17:45

Well the more scientists, research centres and information sharing goes on the quicker we'll have a vaccine.
What's wrong with that?
It's not just Europe.

OhCrumbsWhereNow · 04/05/2020 17:45

What is contradictory, is the UK’s refusal to participate in the EU’s joint medical procurement plans during an actual pandemic, when it could have saved the lives of many medics.

I'd love to know how that is going... have the EU succeeded in delivering anything yet? Last time I looked it wasn't looking awfully effective.

Impiz · 04/05/2020 17:45
Confused
HannahStern · 04/05/2020 17:46

Europe does not need to ask if Boris "I'm shaking hands with everyone" Johnson is off his head. The answer is obvious.

FizzyGreenWater · 04/05/2020 17:46

Why are people misunderstanding this? I mean, I can see a couple of what I know to be thoroughly unpleasant characters on here of course, but - fact is OP was pointing out the irony of Johnson and co trumpeting about working together with other countries. She could have been talking about the Chelsea Flower Show and the point would stand. The irony is stunning. The fact that Brexit and its ideology has probably caused a significant number of coronavirus deaths makes it worse of course, that we're talking about vaccine development. Would that this governemtn were in charge of nothing more important than international collaboration as it affects the Chelsea Flower Show.

Cornettoninja · 04/05/2020 17:47

Was brexit a vote to model ourselves on North Korea?

Give over you daft weeble.

This is global problem and an international committee working on it together is a good thing.

Save your outraged Union Jack panties for twisting up over less important things eh?

Raccoon2020vision · 04/05/2020 17:50

@KarenBossLady So devoted to the future of the NHS and all they'd done for him he was clapping them in his boxer shorts, apparently. According to that bastion of truth-telling, the Sun....

Cornettoninja · 04/05/2020 17:51

fact is OP was pointing out the irony of Johnson and co trumpeting about working together with other countries

For what purpose? It’s all pretty clear isn’t it?

I hate brexit, Boris and the tories in general but even I can acknowledge when they’ve made a good decision that involves them swallowing their own pride. I’m not into indulging in ‘I told you so’s‘ when the issue at hand is more important than point scoring.

SleightOfMind · 04/05/2020 17:52

Ohcrumbs
Not as effective as hoped with ventilators, which take longer to manufacture, but very useful for stocks of PPE.
Also, for sellers of PPE, who are currently being courted by the entire world, the UK gov alone is not as attractive a buyer as the combined EU procurement fund, which is around £3bn.

We’re languishing in a very long queue.

The real issue isn't developing the vaccine - that's actually the easy bit in the context of pandemic. The real challenge is manufacturing at scale. Something the UK does not have much capacity for.
We should be afraid of a no deal Brexit in the context of needing to rely on manufacturing capacity.

SeriouslySoDoneIn · 04/05/2020 17:55

@KarenBossLady your name makes it too obvious you’re a troll. Try again next time.

myangelalex · 04/05/2020 17:55

Attempting to be a Boris and a Brexit bashing thread and all it's managed to do is make the OP look like an idiot.

Thread has hit the buffers with an almighty crash.

LadyWithLapdog · 04/05/2020 18:01

I get you, OP. He’s Europe’s Trump and we all laugh at him.

MissHoskins · 04/05/2020 18:13

U.K. isn't in Europe any more, did you miss the vote.

chomalungma · 04/05/2020 18:17

I am impressed it took @CendrillonSings just 5 minutes to reply.

Is there an app that notifies people if there is a Boris thread about and defenders are needed

BigChocFrenzy · 04/05/2020 18:18

"U.K. isn't in Europe any more"

Did I miss the UK being towed further out to sea ?

LadyWithLapdog · 04/05/2020 18:18

Sadly for you the UK is still only 21 miles apart from Europe. And we laugh at Johnson from all corners of the world so I agree with the OP on this one.

PicsInRed · 04/05/2020 18:20

Brexit is done.

Get over it and move on.

Hairdowntohisknees · 04/05/2020 18:20

Have we moved continents then?
