Most shocking price you've paid for everyday items so far...

I'll start. Whilst self isolating, someone else shopped for me, in local tesco express. £4.35 for a pack of 2 kitchen roll. Jesus feckin wept.

Then I went to small local shop, was trying to avoid a bigger supermarket.... Paid £3.45 for one pack of andrex wet loo wipes that didn't have the price on them and I needed them.

I'm going to be bankrupt at this state. I'm a very frugal shopper and I don't ever let myself get done. But because of one thing and another I'm avoiding the supermarkets and trying to make things last and only going to local shops seldomly.

Hellish.

I heard that people are selling stuff like sanitizer and anti bac wipes on eBay and Facebook for extortionate amounts but it seems worse that supermarkets are cheating that amount. I'm shocked and they seemed to be getting away with it.

I don't think I've paid over the odds for anything. Ive been doing a weekly shop at a big supermarket and it's been the same as usual

They know people are now trying to get all their shopping at once instead of shopping around, so they can take the piss with us.

No not bought anything that has cost more than it should. Did go into local costcutter for pepsi, they were selling 6 cans for nearly £5 Shock

Over £4 for 100 ml tube hand sanitiser gel in Waitrose, I don't think it was price gouged just an expensive make. I got it though as it is never in stock on my Tesco order or in our Wilko and I was fed up of looking for it

£20 for 3 large chicken breast in our local butcher.

That £20 would have brought a massive 5kg box in the meat market

I reluctantly paid €19.50 for a 500ml bottle of hand sanitiser in a pharmacy here in Ireland just as the pandemic started to kick off and it was almost impossible to find. I wanted to get some, just in case, so I paid it even though I thought it was daylight robbery. The normal retail price, according to a friend who works in a different pharmacy, is around €9 for that size bottle. Thankfully prices are back to normal now as there's no shortage.

paid £5.50 for 15 free range eggs at local butchers and £5 for 500 g chicken whereas in local supermarket half the price.

17.49 for five packets of plain flour from amazon when I couldn't get any in the shops. Normal rrp about a fiver!

£2.30 for 6 eggs. They were special blue ones - the only type Waitrose had in stock but I usually shop at Asda and pay under £1.

£7 for 4 bars of soap from Amazon at peak panic buying time. Ordinary coal tar soap, like my grandad used. Usually would be about £1 from our local pharmacy.

£2.89 for a 1.5kg bag of flour. We'd been trying everywhere for about a month. Had to go home and have a lie down!

Back in Lidl a couple of days ago at the usual 45p.

At the start, I paid £8 for a small bottle of hand gel from a corner shop, and £5 for a bottle of hand soap, again from a corner shop as couldn't get any anywhere.

I paid £25 on eBay for some surgical face masks right at the start, by the time they arrived eBay had stopped the selling of these at inflated prices. Then I heard about ppe shortages and felt wretched having the masks so I kept them in the cupboard and have been giving them to neighbours who work in NHS, I've sewed a mask instead and use that.

And I paid £14 on eBay for two TINY bottles of hand sanitizer which I think might be fakes judging by the weird labelling, so chucked them.

£4 for 1kg wholemeal flour. It was organic, but still felt over the odds. I normally buy the cheapest at less than £1.

A lot of the time I'm finding only the expensive brands are left on the supermarket shelves, so this has pushed up the cost of my weekly shop.

Our local butcher is amazing, 5 kg chicken breast for 22.50 yesterday, so he is not price gouging at all

He actually looks exhausted as people are avoiding the massive Tesco Extra just down the road so he is rushed off his feet

I have not ventured to a big store for weeks, we have a Lidl close by and also small Coop, Sainsbury and Iceland in the same parade where the butcher shop is.

Its manageable and doesn't take too long

But some retailers are taking advantage

Around £3.00 for washing up liquid. I don't think the price had been inflated but it was a big bottle of fairy platinum. Was all shop had in. I would normally buy a supermarket own brand.

At the start of lockdown I paid £15 for a Waitrose organic chicken. There was no other meat as everyone had gone mad and I wanted to do a roast - It was the last poor chicken left in the fridge and I took pity on it.

It was quite scrawny and we got about two mouthfuls each (family of 6) - it also didn’t taste that great. I won’t be buying another!

I also bought toilet roll off amazon which was about £12 for 8 rolls. When it eventually came (I suspect from China or somewhere) it turned out they don’t even have holes in the middle - it’s just a solid roll of toilet roll so I can’t even hang the bleddy things on the holder. Tut!
