Woman from Cornwall told she's not allowed her coronavirus test results
Her family had registered for the tests after her partner started showing covid-19 symptoms

A woman from Cornwall says she feels violated after getting a government provided coronavrius test - but was then told she is not allowed to have the results.

The lady from the Helston area - who did not want to be identified - said she wanted people to know that keyworkers would not be able to get their test results.

Her family had registered for the tests after her partner started showing covid-19 symptoms - as her daughter works in a supermarket they were eligible for the tests.

They drove to Plymouth barracks on Monday where they underwent the swab tests while sat in their car.

Once the swabs were taken they were given cards and told that they would need to register them online the same day or they would expire.

On their return home they attempted to register online but kept receiving error messages so called the helpline listed on the document

The lady explained: “We called it and after an hour of being passed from pillar to post we got through and the operator couldn’t understand why we were getting an error message.

“Then she said “hang on a minute, are you a keyworker or a frontline worker?” I explained that my daughter was a keyworker and she said “you will never receive your results”.

“I lost my s* to this poor, poor woman on the phone I said this can’t be right. Then I said to her that this is the government getting their 100,000 tests done - she didn’t reply.”

She added: “At no point when my daughter registered or on any of the information we were given did it state that we would not get our results.

“I feel I have been violated. When I was on the phone my partner took the phone and spoke to the operator and asked that as we would not get our results if all our information and our swabs could be removed - they said no. If we are not allowed the results then why should the government have that information?

The woman said she wanted to make sure that other people are aware that if they are keyworkers they will not get their test results

Why should any other person be subject to this? The Government has taken swabs from us, they have our email addresses, our mobile numbers - it’s just not right.

“We have been watching over the last three months as the government just makes it up as they go along and now they have this testing just so they can stand in their press conferences and say they have reached their target.”

The Department of Health and Social Care has been asked to comment but has not yet responded.

Well it’s a ride out, a freebie and some FB attention isn’t it? Not surprised, the person probably doesn’t even exist, nice little story for the local rag.

Some post's are beyond ignorant, vicious and ill informed !

Are you new to this site or do you not know what vicious means? This is a fairly mild discussion of a poorly worded newspaper story.

SusieOwl4 · 30/04/2020 19:54

I know a whole family who went for testing . One a key worker . But NONE of them had symptoms. What’s the point. They could catch it the following week.

PrayingandHoping · 30/04/2020 19:56

@SusieOwl4 that's because people are lying saying they have symptoms when then don't to get the test.

That was inevitable

But your exactly right. People don't understand what the test really means. They could have had it and they still can get it.

@ThisMustBeMyDream

Is saying 'wtf' and accusing others of 'spouting shit' not on par with calling someone a prick?

Sargass0 · 30/04/2020 20:03

Fucking hell, who goes trawling the internet looking for this shit to post?

Beeep · 30/04/2020 20:05

She lost her shit did she....👀👀👀

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 20:09

"Keyworkers are the same thing as essential workers -so a supermarket worker and their family qualifies for the test, symptomatic or not."
Wrong. You have to symptomatic, and between days 1 to 5 of symptoms. You can only have one if you have no symptoms if you work in a care home or are a resident in a care home, in England.

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 20:10

"Is saying 'wtf' and accusing others of 'spouting shit' not on par with calling someone a prick?"
Yessssss. And she also posted shit!!!

rc22 · 30/04/2020 20:11

I know a key worker who was tested as was their family (wife and teenage kids.) All tested positive and all got their results. All very much on the mend as well thankfully.

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 20:12

"because people are lying saying they have symptoms when then don't to get the test."
Which would then be a complete waste of their time.

PrayingandHoping · 30/04/2020 20:18

@TabbyMumz yep! But inevitable! I'm seeing it all over fb now it's been opened up. Because they can get a test people want one!

DD3 (11) has had a 'hot feeling throat', achy legs, off food and fever of 39.2, an hour after paracetamol. DH works for a group of schools. Under the testing rules, we've ordered home tests for DH (the key worker) and DD3 (living with DH, with symptoms). We haven't ordered tests for me, DD1 or DD2, because we don't have symptoms.

PenfoldsFive · 30/04/2020 20:39

My brain can't quite cope with this. What would be the point of testing anyone and then not telling them the result?

beepbeep · 30/04/2020 20:40

From Gov website
'All essential workers in England, and members of their households who are showing symptoms of coronavirus will now be able to get tested, the government has announced.

This will mean individuals and people they live with will have the reassurance of knowing whether their symptoms are caused by coronavirus and can decide whether they are well enough to return to work"

CodenameVillanelle · 30/04/2020 20:41

Why would family members of keyworkers need to be tested if they don't have symptoms and aren't keyworkers themselves?

The people entitled to tests are keyworkers who live with people who have symptoms. Not anyone who lives with a keyworker but doesn't have symptoms

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 20:59

But your husband hasnt symptoms either, and doesnt work in a care home, so why dies he need kne?

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 21:00

Sorry...why does he need one

GlitterNails · 30/04/2020 21:03

'Why would family members of keyworkers need to be tested if they don't have symptoms and aren't keyworkers themselves?'

The idea is that the keyworker can continue working, rather than self-isolating.

I am an employer of a keyworker. I've been told directly if the keyworker has symptoms OR a member of her household, she can get tested.

Hampsand · 30/04/2020 21:06

I can see why the daughter would be swabbed if someone in the household has symptoms and she could be asymptomatic which is risky at work, but why did the lady showing no symptoms get it? Also don't really get what happened, either way I probably won't be losing sleep over it.

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 21:07

"Why would family members of keyworkers need to be tested if they don't have symptoms and aren't keyworkers themselves?"
They wouldnt.

Lougle · 30/04/2020 21:07

He is having to self-isolate because a family member has symptoms. It seems they've changed things now. He gave his details, with his work email and selected that he was a key worker living with someone who has symptoms. He got emailed a code, then had to use that code to order the kits.

The guidance said that it's important to keep key workers in work if possible, so they offer the tests, so that if he and DD3 are both negative, he doesn't have to isolate. However, if DD3 is positive and he is negative, he'll still have to isolate for 14 days.

CodenameVillanelle · 30/04/2020 21:07

I am an employer of a keyworker. I've been told directly if the keyworker has symptoms OR a member of her household, she can get tested.

Exactly. You need the keyworker back to work. Any other member of their household that is neither a keyworker nor a person with symptoms is not relevant to this aim and doesn't need a test.
