Woman from Cornwall told she's not allowed her coronavirus test results
Her family had registered for the tests after her partner started showing covid-19 symptoms

A woman from Cornwall says she feels violated after getting a government provided coronavrius test - but was then told she is not allowed to have the results.

The lady from the Helston area - who did not want to be identified - said she wanted people to know that keyworkers would not be able to get their test results.

Her family had registered for the tests after her partner started showing covid-19 symptoms - as her daughter works in a supermarket they were eligible for the tests.

They drove to Plymouth barracks on Monday where they underwent the swab tests while sat in their car.

Once the swabs were taken they were given cards and told that they would need to register them online the same day or they would expire.

On their return home they attempted to register online but kept receiving error messages so called the helpline listed on the document

The lady explained: “We called it and after an hour of being passed from pillar to post we got through and the operator couldn’t understand why we were getting an error message.

“Then she said “hang on a minute, are you a keyworker or a frontline worker?” I explained that my daughter was a keyworker and she said “you will never receive your results”.

“I lost my s* to this poor, poor woman on the phone I said this can’t be right. Then I said to her that this is the government getting their 100,000 tests done - she didn’t reply.”

She added: “At no point when my daughter registered or on any of the information we were given did it state that we would not get our results.

“I feel I have been violated. When I was on the phone my partner took the phone and spoke to the operator and asked that as we would not get our results if all our information and our swabs could be removed - they said no. If we are not allowed the results then why should the government have that information?

The woman said she wanted to make sure that other people are aware that if they are keyworkers they will not get their test results

Why should any other person be subject to this? The Government has taken swabs from us, they have our email addresses, our mobile numbers - it’s just not right.

“We have been watching over the last three months as the government just makes it up as they go along and now they have this testing just so they can stand in their press conferences and say they have reached their target.”

The Department of Health and Social Care has been asked to comment but has not yet responded.

She is very confused. You should not have a test if she didnt have symptoms. I dont get why she is angry. She clearly shouldn't have had the test. Someone else could have used that test.

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 18:46

"The woman said she wanted to make sure that other people are aware that if they are keyworkers they will not get their test results"
This bit makes no sense. I think the woman has said this wrong. She wont get a result if she didnt have symptoms in the first place.

GrumpyHoonMain · 30/04/2020 18:46

They only tell you if you have Covid, surely that’s obvious. She clearly wasted a test by taking it without symptoms. Prick.

TheletterZ · 30/04/2020 18:49

It sounds like she isn’t a keyworker so not eligible for the test. Bit of a non story really.

Ughmaybenot · 30/04/2020 18:50

A lot of this makes no sense... I don’t think this woman has it right Hmm

PrayingandHoping · 30/04/2020 18:53

Just not true.

I know keyworkers that have been given their results.

TerrapinStation · 30/04/2020 18:54

What an odd story, is that the normal level of journalism for that paper, it's like a story from a drunk on the bus.

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 18:55

Of course key workers are given their results..that's the whole point.

Glowcat · 30/04/2020 18:56

Muppet.

Icandada · 30/04/2020 18:56

There’s already been a thread about this. Most of them don’t qualify for testing.

TheMagiciansMewTwo · 30/04/2020 18:58

She must have been entitled to a test or they wouldn't have tested her. I think 'key workers and members of their household' being eligible for tests has been confusing for some people.
So either the woman misunderstood that she wouldn't get a result at all when they actually meant she would only get a result if positive or the person on the phone misunderstood or the underlying message of the article is correct and the government is taking swabs to push up testing numbers but not actually sending the swabs for testing. I'm not sure how anyone would know which option is the truth at this stage.

ThisMustBeMyDream · 30/04/2020 19:00

What the fuck? Calling her a prick?

You clearly don't understand how the current testing is working.

I am a keyworker. With symptoms. Myself and my family (the asymptomatic as wellas symptomatic) can be tested. Go and read up before spouting shit.

Icandada · 30/04/2020 19:00

People who are not eligible are booking themselves in. The daughter is a supermarket worker without symptoms, she doesn’t qualify. Family members without symptoms don’t qualify. The only one who qualifies if the mum’s partner with symptoms, and that is only if he lives with the daughter, which isn’t clear in that crappy article.

Icandada · 30/04/2020 19:02

Asymptomatic family members of health and social care workers qualify; those of other key workers don’t.

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 19:02

"She must have been entitled to a test or they wouldn't have tested her."
Not true. It wasnt made clear on the website that it was only for people with symptoms...or that tests would only work between days 1 to 5.

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/04/2020 19:04

Violated? Really?

TabbyMumz · 30/04/2020 19:10

"Violated? Really?"
Yes, she was probably fuming aswell.

PrayingandHoping · 30/04/2020 19:29

Keyworkers get given their results whether they are positive or negative

The story is nonsense

Biscuit0110 · 30/04/2020 19:33

All test results have been given promptly to key workers in our area. It is a non story, which is why she does not wish to be identified.

TerrapinStation · 30/04/2020 19:34

Keyworkers get given their results whether they are positive or negative

The story is nonsense

One thing that does seem clear is that the woman is not a keyworker, or have I failed to even make a tiny bit of sense out of it.

PrayingandHoping · 30/04/2020 19:38

I think the whole article is contradictory nonsense, as even if she is not a keyworker it says she was told keyworkers don't get their results. Which isn't true

Imboredinthehouse · 30/04/2020 19:38

I am a keyworker. With symptoms. Myself and my family (the asymptomatic as wellas symptomatic) can be tested. Go and read up before spouting shit

www.gov.uk/apply-coronavirus-test

Anyone with coronavirus symptoms can apply if they live with an essential worker, a person aged 65 or over, or someone who travels to work.

ACertainSupermarket · 30/04/2020 19:44

Keyworkers are the same thing as essential workers -so a supermarket worker and their family qualifies for the test, symptomatic or not. Though I'm not sure what the point is only to have the active test rather than the antibody test, I suppose to see if you're infected but asymptomatic? i don't know any of my colleagues who have applied, but as yet there isn't a local one so might change if there is.

BlueStocking007 · 30/04/2020 19:49

Can I correct some ( MOST ) of you who have responded?

Working for the LA, as a keyworker, all their families, who have shown any type of symptom can now have the test.

I can only assume none of you are keyworkers, or you would have been notified. All family members of a key worker can be tested.

Some post's are beyond ignorant, vicious and ill informed !

We should be assuming from this: it's a brand new initiative directly from the failure of Mr H meeting anywhere his target of testing 100,000 p/d and he now may be getting closer to his promise.

He only promised that 100,000 p/d would be tested, he mentioned nothing about the results/accumulation/statistical use of these tests and who would benefit from knowing the results and who would be informed of the results.
Keyworkers yes, for front line care and can stop working if positive. Families having it, would be a non priority and the government can continue to add/skew/omit/remove these additional family results, to provide any other result they want!

It's not rocket science...It's politics !

SmileyClare · 30/04/2020 19:51

what an odd story. Like a story from a drunk on the bus That made me laugh Grin

I think it's all the "she said, I said" "then I lost my shit"
Is there a serious picture of the woman with a caption "Susan from Cornwall feels violated"
It's an odd description, almost as if she's been forced to have an anal probe or something.
