Just seen 2 people walking past my house with fancy artsy milkshakes...

Opened the window and asked lightheartedly (from a good few metres distance) where they got them from and they chirpily told me that the coffeehouse in the town market is open again.

FFS.

I’m jealous.

SkelingtonArgument · 25/04/2020 16:17

What’s the problem? Takeaways are permitted and have never been restricted

Wankerchief · 25/04/2020 16:18

Takeaway is fine

riannonmas · 25/04/2020 16:19

Can see the town centre from my window.

It’s like everybody has gone back to normal. Several couples out together with their kids etc, people out for town strolls with their mums...

Feel like I’ve missed a memo

Thighmageddon · 25/04/2020 16:19

Our local artsy coffee shop is doing takeaway and delivery. Yours might be doing similar.

MilkRunningOutAgain · 25/04/2020 16:21

I’m jealous, I want one. Our local fish & chip shop opened this week. Wonderful!

nitgel · 25/04/2020 16:22

Our chicken shop is open

Spinakker · 25/04/2020 16:22

Yep I'm jealous too!

JudyGemstone · 25/04/2020 16:23

There's no problem with take aways being open if they observe social distancing. Businesses have to try and trade if they can.

If you want one go and get one, but don't be a judgey pants about it!

AvoidingRealHumans · 25/04/2020 16:24

Lots of places stayed open for take away and I would assume lots that didn't are now realising that they won't survive much longer with no income.
Go and get one, enjoy yourself

Waxonwaxoff0 · 25/04/2020 16:25

So what? As long as social distancing there is being adhered to. Nothing wrong with buying a milkshake when you're out on your daily exercise and supporting a local business. Loads of pubs round my way are selling off their alcohol for collection.

OddBoots · 25/04/2020 16:27

A couple of the places around here have opened as take away only, the queues are spaced out and at least one has managed to get perspex up at the counter. It's good that people are finding sensible and safe ways to carry on.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 25/04/2020 16:27

Take away are allowed to open. Take away is fine. Our fish and chip shop opened back up in the village in the week they now do car collection you wait outside, they leave it outside your car door and away you go.

Too many business closed in a panic when this kicked off and now know this situation is going to be going on for a long time. So they are starting to open back up, you can’t keep staff furloughed forever.

Lockdown is pointless anyway the virus isn’t going anywhere, a vaccine isn’t coming yet.

puffinandkoala · 25/04/2020 16:27

As others have said, takeaways are allowed to be open. Well any cafe/restaurant is allowed to be open for takeaway. Many decided to close regardless (no doubt to take advantage of the furlough scheme). If some are now reopening, that's a good thing and better for the taxpayer.

CakeAndGin · 25/04/2020 16:29

Several couples out together with their kids so part of the same household?

people out for town strolls with their mums...
how do you know they aren’t part of the same household?

If you want to use your daily walk to go to the town, observe social distance and get a milkshake - go for it. Business can still do takeaways and they need to make some money somehow. If you would rather stay in and judge those who you have absolutely no idea what their set up is - go ahead. I know which will be better for your mental health and tastier.

riannonmas · 25/04/2020 16:30

Don’t mind takeaways...have scoffed enough of them myself. But it’s right in the town centre where there is a lot of benches etc

It’s all over the town FB group that this coffee shop is open though and people all posting about how they’ve all gone down today. Brill for the business owners who I’m sure have been struggling but people all gathered in a market square?

I guess what bothers me is that it’s the same people who 2 weeks ago were the curtain twitchers who practically threatened to shoot anybody who went out.

OP posts:
riannonmas · 25/04/2020 16:31

I’m not too against it, I’ve been thinking myself we can’t live like this much longer.

Just seems to have changed very quickly, people’s attitudes.

OP posts:
Frownette · 25/04/2020 16:35

I'd love a milkshake.

I wish more places were open for takeaway in my area, there's only indian or chinese, which are expensive.

ToffeeYoghurt · 25/04/2020 16:36

As others have said takeaways have always been open. All these people suddenly out and about. Is it one particular part of the UK. No change here. Other posters have said nothing's changed where they are either.

Don't worry OP. I wouldn't feel jealous of those gathering in your market Square. Come two, three weeks time they'll be the ones sick and in hospital. Or dead. Unless they're lying. Facebook is known for made up or exaggerated posts.

mum2jakie · 25/04/2020 16:40

Sounds lush! I might make some milkshakes later off with some nice ice cream we've got in and the kids' leftover Easter eggs too. We're having a barbecue for tea too!

Frownette · 25/04/2020 16:41

@ToffeeYoghurt no there were many more open here at start of lockdown, then lots started shutting (custom I presume).

They were all strict on gloves, masks, paying by contactless.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 16:54

Another do I say, not as I do thread. You can get someone else to deliver your takeaway, but other people can't go for their own?

Why the fuck would ask them? So you knew where it was from before you botched.

Shock horror. You can also sit on benches now, if you want

LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 16:56

“ But it’s right in the town centre where there is a lot of benches etc ”

Benches? Not taped off? 😱😱😱😱😱😱

(Joke, to be clear).

riannonmas · 25/04/2020 16:58

Shitsgettingcrazy

Calm down. I’m not really that bothered about it. Just seems everybody is out all of a sudden and I’m a little shocked because nothing significant has happened in regards to the numbers, or has it? The ‘ffs’ was an expression of confusion

One week ago if you suggested walking into the town market with your family the local FB group would have crucified you.

What’s changed? Genuine question

OP posts:
LilacTree1 · 25/04/2020 17:00

OP, hopefully what’s changed is people realise they’ve got to learn to live, and maybe die, with this virus.
