Just seen 2 people walking past my house with fancy artsy milkshakes...

Opened the window and asked lightheartedly (from a good few metres distance) where they got them from and they chirpily told me that the coffeehouse in the town market is open again.

FFS.

DeathByBoredom · 25/04/2020 17:01

That's people. Illogical with short term memories Smile

RhymingRabbit3 · 25/04/2020 17:02

Sounds like you weren't really being "lighthearted" if your reaction was "FFS". what did you expect them to say that would have been acceptable to you?
Takeaway food and drink is allowed. The fact that the coffee shop is in the town centre shouldnt mean they arent allowed to open and make money selling things legally. It's not their responsibility to ensure people socially distance in the square.

RhymingRabbit3 · 25/04/2020 17:06

Come two, three weeks time they'll be the ones sick and in hospital. Or dead.
The vast likelihood is that they will not catch the virus by walking through the market square and buying a milkshake. If they do catch it, there is a very high chance that they will be fine. I think people are starting to think that it's not worth putting our lives on hold to avoid the minute risk (assuming you are healthy and young). I'm not saying I agree and I'm sure many do not.

BikeRunSki · 25/04/2020 17:07

The sandwich shop/deli in my village never closed. He’s operating a “one in one out” system. There is plenty of room to queue outside.

DeathByBoredom · 25/04/2020 17:09

Do the over 90s like milkshake that much? They are the only age group with a 50:50 chance of survival. Assuming the average milkshake buyer is under 40, they have a miniscule risk of serious illness. Hopefully all the vulnerable are still staying in so they shouldn't be exposed.

justasking111 · 25/04/2020 17:23

Our local takeaways doing ok. Just Eat has lots listed in our area.

We had fish and chips last weekend. It was lovely.

Frownette · 25/04/2020 17:40

@justasking111 we don't even have deliveroo Grin

No pizza, no fish and chips. Most of the time it's fine but sometimes I'd kill for a chip!

Madein1995 · 25/04/2020 17:40

I dont blame them.

I am so annoyed that my local costa is still shut. They could enforce distancing much thr same as the local tesco Express for example. I'm really craving a caramel latte, particularly as I'm still going to work anyway. I'm making do with the ready made cans which are nowhere near the same !

leasedaudi · 25/04/2020 17:44

Why aren't couples allowed out with their kids? Kids need fresh air and exercise too.

catsandlavender · 25/04/2020 17:48

I can’t fathom why you’d have a problem with this, which you clearly do, as you said “ffs” Hmm

BakedCam · 25/04/2020 17:48

@leasedaudi they are 'allowed' out with their kids.

Where have you heard they aren't?

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 25/04/2020 17:49

We had a lovely takeout barbeque from our local pub, potato salad, burgers, onion rings, ribs and sausages today. Sat in our back garden overlooking the sea and ate it.

rc22 · 25/04/2020 17:51

I'd love a takeaway latte or flat white!!

Some people on my local facebook page have said there are ice cream vans doing the rounds and taking contact less payment so I'm looking out for them too!!

WoollyMollyMonkey · 25/04/2020 18:00

Milkshakes - not essential.
Chip shops - essential! I’d love some chippy fish and chips. (Sigh)

MrsKypp · 25/04/2020 18:06

The UK is doing a sort of half lockdown, half normal approach.

Other countries had true lockdowns. Much stricter about not going out etc.

I personally think it might have been better to go for a proper total lockdown so that it would have a more dramatic effect on reducing infections.

But this government have been totally crap with their mixed messages, not learning from other countries and initially, being so obsessed with fucking brexit that they failed to notice a lethal virus rampaging across the world.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 18:09

@riannonmas yep you started a thread about this. Went out of your way to ask them where they got it from and are annoyed.

Its just beggars belief that you were OK with someone else else bringing your food, but have an issue with people going getting takeaway.

A few weeks ago mn and fn would have ripped you apart for ordering a takeaway. Peolle panic, then (most) get a grip.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 25/04/2020 18:12

Sweden seems to be doing OK, despite the lack of lockdown

CoronaMoaner · 25/04/2020 18:15

This sort of thing comes down to your own circumstances and risk appetite.
Personally I won’t be heading into town for a milkshake anytime soon.
If other people want to, that’s up to them.

ToffeeYoghurt · 25/04/2020 18:20

Why do people compare to other very different countries. Sweden has a smaller population than us. They're less densely housed too with 50% living in single person households. Much easier to socially distance and self isolate. It's also debatable that they're doing so well. It depends whether you think BAME communities are expendable. Their migrant population are the hardest hit.

Baconisgoodformeee · 25/04/2020 18:26

I’m pretty sure the restrictions will start to be lifted soon.

HerRoyalNotness · 25/04/2020 18:45

@frownette I’ve just watched Gordon Ramsey on insta do a 10min fish and chips, all in shallow fry pan. You could make your own chips. We’re having a go tonight

Candyflosscookie · 25/04/2020 19:01

Ooh this hasn't gone the way you thought it would eh OP? You've missed the mood of the crowd. If you'd posted this two weeks ago you'd have been applauded and the feckless milk shaker take awayers would have been accused of literally murdering nurses with their bare (or sprinkled in hundreds and thousands) hands. And now the MN tide has turned, the tune is now that we all have to live for months with this virus so why not enjoy the little moments of pleasure. Bad timing OP. Fickle ain't we.
Grin

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 19:09

I think they're mad. This half lockdown is crazy. We should have done a solid 4 weeks strict lockdown and then hopefully the figures would have been low enough to go to a more relaxed version. Instead we seem to have done a semi version which hasn't reduced the figures and now everyone is bored and fed up and has no tolerance for it being dragged out even longer.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 25/04/2020 19:11

If we could see figures dropping we'd know it was worthwhile. Instead, the economy is getting fucked and we can't go shopping or have any fun and we still can't see much improvement

justasking111 · 25/04/2020 19:30

Just looked at the charts deaths for Spain, France Italy who are two weeks ahead of us in lockdown. Well two weeks ago they were doing better than we seem to be now. It is sobering to compare them to us.
