Why aren't the Met Police stopping the public congregating there for the2nd week in a row ??

I don’t know why this is happening. The rest of London is deserted. This is Oxford St yesterday about 3pm

It's at clapping time though @Binterested which is 8pm not 3pm and with fire engines etc out the public are seeing it as a green light to go out

Up in Derbyshire they get the drone in you of you're walking a dog.. in my small town you get mentioned on FB if you have two walks a day.. in London you get a party with coppers for clapping..
It's a weird place alright.

bigchris · 24/04/2020 19:06

I thought it was awful how they publicly shamed that couple dog walking on the fells

@DGRossetti that is lovely. I live on the HR flight path and am absolutely loving the silence. This beautiful weather helps too.

I may also be in the minority loving the clapping. It is over in two minutes, but for those two minutes we feel like a community. I recognise this is not reflected nationally though!

Bunnyfuller · 24/04/2020 19:07

There are a lot, A LOT of people who are not observing social distancing. They’re the same people who make a massive deal of clapping for the NHS, instead of voting for the NHS when they have the chance.

The emergency legalisation is so vague and poorly thought out the grounds for actually enforcing it are almost impossible to meet. The clap is what, 5 mins? So first we are told to engage and educate ‘hello, member of public, how are you today? Were you aware the govt has put guidelines in place about social distancing, and necessary outings only?’
They’ll say yes (at this point they want to clap, it’s really noisy and for them to hear you, you’re going to need to go a lot closer than 2m - ‘lovely member of public, you really shouldn’t be congregating here, can I ask you to go home please’

By this point clap is finished and everyone starts moaning about police not social distancing/being too overbearing/not enforcing the guidelines.

BE FUCKING GROWN UPS AND STOP GOING OUT. ITS NOT LIKE ITS VIRTUALLY THE ONLY THING YOU CAN SEE ON TVOR ONLINE FFS. Stop blaming the police for public stupidity.

HeIenaDove · 24/04/2020 19:08

Piers Morgan getting asked on Twitter why he is ignoring this.

MsSafina · 24/04/2020 19:10

Cummings is behind the " Save our NHS" slogan as he knows the semi mystical regard in which the NHS is held and it enforces obedience to the lockdown.

bigchris · 24/04/2020 19:10

Stop blaming the police for public stupidity

But it was all over the news last week in the exact same place so the police should have stopped it

but for those two minutes we feel like a community

I understand that. But, anecdotally obviously, it's just making people hypocrites imo. People near me voted Tory, they still have lots of visitors, still congregate out the front, let their kids all play together etc etc.. then they're out clapping like trained seals on a Thursday.

Screw that. Stay in, abide rules, shop local, vote in favour of NHs and social care and fair wages for shop workers etc etc.

HeIenaDove · 24/04/2020 19:11

Bunny Last week they were joining in. This week they could have redeemed themselves by dispersing those on the bridge.

HeIenaDove · 24/04/2020 19:13

@MonkeyToesOfDoom I can do even better. Two weeks ago o our estate it was Heal The World at full volume

Last night it was We Are The World at the same volume at 8pm
From an area that predominantly voted Leave!!

MsSafina · 24/04/2020 19:14

We're all being manipulated with Goebbels style seal clapping and adoration of the NHS in order to prop up this Government.

MsSafina · 24/04/2020 19:16

They must be worried about social unrest coming down the line. As long as we have rainbows and clapping they're safe.

bigchris · 24/04/2020 19:18

There will be social unrest in some parts of the country if lockdown isn't relaxed on May 8th

Meanwhile Royal Navy gets it in the neck for this. They had been underwater for God knows how long. Ridiculous.

Binterested · 24/04/2020 19:24

The odd thing is there is almost nothing residential in that area. Parliament, huge hospital, massive hotel and some tourist venues. Who is going onto the bridge ?

Bunnyfuller · 24/04/2020 19:28

@HeIenaDove @bigchis

Do you think the PCs just decided to go?

The direction is ‘engage, educate, encourage, enforce’

Along with half the population calling it a police state and how dare they be told what to do.

Whilst police exposure to the virus isn’t the same as treating someone in hospital, did you notice the cops wearing PPE? Our role has not changed, we have even less access to PPE, and initially joining in the clapping was in support of our colleagues. The clapping has turned into a huge outpouring of virtue signalling, and people are trying to outdo each other with what they’ll come up with for Thursday 8pm.

The legation is very vague, and the media as usual refuse to help us enforce but just point fingers. Cheers. We’re still attending sudden deaths, RTCs, Domestics, Burglaries and loooads of idiot ASB.

But yeah, bash us for a viral phone capture. And keep voting Tory, they’ve helped us loads.

HeIenaDove · 24/04/2020 19:33

Ive never voted Tory in my life.

bigchris · 24/04/2020 19:34

@Bunnyfuller also never voted tory in my life , what a bizarre comment

MintyMabel · 24/04/2020 19:35

A hospital is different surely, or do you mean the public travelled to the hospital to clap

Yep. Happened at ours last week.

bigchris · 24/04/2020 19:35

The legislation isn't vague

If you aren't with your household keep 2 metres apart

Go out in groups of 2 and no more

Nowhere does it say congregate with groups and clap

And the police know it happened last week so could have had a presence there this week to stop it

OP posts:
bigchris · 24/04/2020 19:36

Minty that's shocking !
