This clap gets louder and more elaborate every week!

From the first week (just clapping) we now have multiple fireworks, one neighbour has plans, another bells, there are horns, yelling and car horns being sounded. Ironically the neighbours with friends round for a BBQ are a particularly loud lot.
I am miserable in not really getting it?

I am seriously losing my shit with it all - neighbours desperately publicly signally how virtuous they are while failing to socially distance. Tonight banging on drums and waking my young kids up .... I was very close to going out to tell them to fuck off, but my husband talked me down .... ironically I am the only one doing shopping for local elderly neighbours, whilst working full time and simultaneously looking after the kids - boils my piss Angry

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 30/04/2020 20:11

Less than last week from what I could hear

People opposite who are always out
Ditto my neighbours one side but they do it with their kids who are finding it a thing to look forward too, which is fair enough .
Otherwise nothing going on and not even a firework (it is wet and miserable though)

cakemeupbeforeyougogo · 30/04/2020 20:15

Oh god, the next over goes all out too. Posts popping ip saying things like 'we've got the best street!'.

It's not a bloody competition!!

museumum · 30/04/2020 20:16

This is the first time I’ve forgotten and the clapping outside wasn’t loud enough to remind me. Think others must have forgotten too.

OwlsFlyByNight · 30/04/2020 20:18

It was bloody air horns this week here! I don’t get involved either, of course I appreciate key workers but I don’t see how enforced clapping helps them Confused

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 30/04/2020 20:19

My dogs have been barking for the full 15 minutes now due to fireworks. Who knows how long the fireworks will last but my dogs barking will last longer. 😬 OH says they’re barking for bastards. Bastards who set fucking fireworks off. Then theres the hours karaoke....and new for this week, a trumpet. 🤣 I’d heard someone on here say one of their neighbours had a trumpet and felt lucky we didn’t, but now we have one too. All hoping to get a special Facebook mention. 🙄 I wonder what next week will bring for those who must outdo others.

Naithnira · 30/04/2020 20:21

We go out and bang our Le Creuset pans. The weight makes our wrists ache but we’re keen to impress the neighbours with our quality kitchenware.

averytiredmom · 30/04/2020 20:24

We just had a dinosaur on a scooter here

HeyDuggeewhatchadoin · 30/04/2020 20:25

We had banging, clapping, fireworks, singing... and a Police siren being turned on and off, like half a "whoo" then off again.
Make it stop Angry

Carlislemumof4 · 30/04/2020 20:26

the fireworks are doing harm. They are distressing animals and pose a risk when used by amateurs.

This. My cat (indoors) was hugely stressed by the loud bangers neighbours were setting off again tonight.

Once a year in November is one thing, every week quite another! She isn't bothered by the car horns at all, would be fine if no fireworks.

pfrench · 30/04/2020 20:26

Haha! Calmed down here, just clapping. No revving of motorbikes or pots and pans. Bloody awful local brass band training section playing you'll never walk alone though.

PrivateD00r · 30/04/2020 20:26

If you don't like it then don't do it. But please god, stop the moaning!

Personally I think it is a lovely show of support and shows a bit of community spirit. I get a buzz from it, clearly I am not alone as most round our way join in Smile

The DC enjoyed singing happy birthday to Tom too.

bigchris · 30/04/2020 20:28

Also Damp squib here

Think next week will be the, last surely?

And how do you social distance ringing church bells ( I've done it in the past!)

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 30/04/2020 20:28

We just had a dinosaur on a scooter here

Now, I’d quite like that I think. 🦖 🛴 🤣🤣🤣

bigchris · 30/04/2020 20:29

You have to wonder a week tomorrow the idiots who will be on the streets for VE day

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 30/04/2020 20:31

@EveryLifeHasASoundtrack Unless it was a fake meme and I don't know if it was or not , they are apparently selling trumpets at Lidl this week .

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 30/04/2020 20:32

Maybe you’d feel differently if the fireworks were still going off and the awful out of tune karaoke was still going on....and your dogs were still barking. I can’t even begin to describe how noisy my house is at the moment. At least I don’t have typical Mumsnet neighbours that will moan about my dogs barking I suppose. 😬

RoryGillmoresEvilTwin · 30/04/2020 20:32

This week we had the now usual shouting/cheering/pan banging/wheelie bin lid slamming plus someones fucking sound system pumping out bangin' tunes...

Fucking ridiculous

wishfull888 · 30/04/2020 20:32

Nope and I too don't get it . I've donated some money instead.
The house on our street banging the loudest, full of nhs workers.... with multiple family and friends over each day every week doesn't get my support . They are the worst offenders for infecting in a mile radius!

BenjiB · 30/04/2020 20:33

I live near the docks, you should hear the boats and ships!

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 30/04/2020 20:35

Oh god no.....I never did like Lidl. 🤣🤣🤣

ClientQ · 30/04/2020 20:36

Just clapping and car horns here
Cat back from his stroll as usual looking bemused. He manages to be out at 8pm every Thursday, I think he likes that everyone is clapping him Hmm

Stellamboscha · 30/04/2020 20:37

Just ignore it /is only a few minutes and tonight (raining here) no clapping just a few feeble fireworks. Has fizzled out -mercifully!

catfeets · 30/04/2020 20:37

It died down here but has flared up again over the past couple of weeks. It mostly irritates me because those out clapping near me are the ones who can't be bothered to work and have spent years sat on their lazy arses. Maybe if they paid some taxes they might actually help the nhs - their stupid clapping and yelling does nothing! Luckily we've only got as far as musical instruments, it sounds like some on here have it much worse.

My DP is an emergency services worker and is forced every week to stand clapping while it's being filmed for social media. The grabbing for attention is getting ridiculous!

LemonadeAndDaisyChains · 30/04/2020 20:37

What does it matter? Life is bleak enough at the moment, if people want to make a noise for 3 mins a week is it really harming anyone

This - it's a bit of lighthearted "socialising" on your doorstep once a week.
No harm done.
This place is so miserable lately lol, just a dumping ground for all the miserable fuckers to vent their spleen Grin
@MorrisZapp bagpipes sounds ace, I love bagpipes! I wanna come to Scotland lol
