Why did someone film me today?

Ok. I know you can’t actually answer this, but I’m genuinely baffled (and a bit pissed off tbh).

I was out for a run today, on the pavement of a quiet road, semirural, about 100 metres from home. Nearest people were about 20 metres in front of me on the path, no one else in sight. A car went past and the passenger clearly filmed me - holding her phone up, panning it around to follow me running.

Why???

I’m not particularly interesting looking. I wasn’t running like Phoebe from friends. Why was she filming? What’s she doing with the footage? I know I should just ignore and move on, but I’m totally confused. Did she think I was doing something wrong? Breaking lock down in some way?

Probably the lockdown police

I got photographed too I was walking with my kids on scooters to get food no one else on the road but still photo worthy 🙄

That’s what I thought. Lockdown police. But I was doing something totally allowed. I wanted to run after her and have an actual conversation, “I’m on a run! It’s allowed. Why are you in a car as a passenger? What’s so urgent?” But I’m not that fast and then I’d look as petty as her!

I was walking with my two children yesterday, for our exercise walk, and a man stood in front of us on the path blocking our way. Then we moved and he moved as well. So we moved again, and as I passed him I asked him “alright?” as I thought there was something wrong, and he said “two! Only two people from one family should be out at once!”. I didn’t think that was right, but even it was, it felt very threatening.

And OP, Is it legal to be filmed without permission?
I'd have been tempted to film them filming me (but then I'm a bit antagonistic like that...)

Uurggghh. I’m sorry you’ve met the lockdown weirdos too, but strangely comforted that you agree it was bizarre and that other people are having strange things happen.

Some people are filming/ recording lockdown experiences just for future evidence of this particular time in history, they are planning on publishing lockdown memoirs/ chronicles etc.
Sounds bizarre but it could have been something to do with that OP.

It wasn't as simple as that. Germany very quickly became a militarised police state. Anyone not complying faced being sent ro prison or even being shot. In many cases people complied out of fear.

It seems to be a fashion lately to shout Nazi or Fascist at people, and not just in relation to this crisis. But isn't it a bit insulting to the real and fairly recent victims of Nazism and Fascism, the victims of the holocaust in particular, to keep using those terms in such inappropriate ways? Maybe I'm old fashioned and it's a generational thing but still

Last week, I had a neighbour shouting quite extreme abuse at me across the street as my food delivery arrived. It was just two boxes of vegetables, milk and eggs from the farming produce delivery company I've been using for a couple of years (and it is my regular order), but apparently I was to blame that no one in her family is able to get a supermarket delivery slot. I have never spoken to her before, but she had never created an impression of someone deeply disturbed.

Some weirdo filmed my two year old playing in the park last week (from the angle of the phone it was obvious it was just DS he was filming). We were nowhere near anyone else.

Lockdown has given some people an opportunity to be creepy intrusive fuckers. I suspect they were creepy intrusive fuckers before all this, but now they feel they have a licence to do it publicly.

It could just be someone documenting how quiet the streets are, but most likely a sanctimonious twat. This situation has made it near impossible for them to hide their twattery.

Taking photos/videos of a person without permission is a civil matter, not a legal matter.

A couple of weeks ago a neighbour gave me (and the rest of the street) a lecture about not using supermarket delivery services as they are needed for vulnerable people - I am actually vulnerable as I have asthma. Today, she told me that she’s got a supermarket delivery coming on Monday!

children under 13 - there was a big thing about one of those british fascist groups - who put apicture on twitter of standing beside 2 lads collecting for sea scouts (?) saying they needed to defend them from Muslims without permission (total lie & made up & orchestrated) & the crunch was whether the boys were under 13 (I think it was tho I might have mixed in up?)

People have turned into complete knobs.

I had a neighbour take a photo of the kids in my front garden. They put it on a local site grumbling about how I had “visitors”. It was taken down when someone else, who knows me, pointed out that the visiting kids are staying here for the duration.

The same person later posted in a different group boasting about how everyone in his street is supporting a neighbour who has taken in family kids so their brave relative can work in ICU. That got taken down after our other neighbour asked “is that the kids you whinge get taken out for a walk every day?”

Clearly someone just being an absolute nob, OP. But I feel your pain. Before lockdown I was in a group that took turns in picking the kids up from an activity. When it was my turn, I sometimes took them to macdonalds before going home, and would get a coffee for myself whilst leaving them to it. The last time I done it, I looked up to see a group of teenagers laughing and filming me. I'm also not particularly interesting-looking. I'm average weight, average looking. So I guess they were just laughing at a 30-something woman being sat on her own in a teenage-packed macdonalds. It shouldn't have, but it really upset me. Long-winded way of me saying I feel your pain, OP! Grin

If someone took a photo or film of my kids I would do it right back!

It does feel more creepy out and about. Not least as there would be few witnesses if some nutter tried to drag you off.

She was probably showing off in front of her mate knowing it would freak you out a bit. I wouldn't worry about it.
