Does anyone think they have caught it going to the shops?

Going to the shops is the only time I come close to another person, outside of my household. And sometimes it is of course less than 2m

Just wondering if anyone has caught the virus, from grocery shopping?

No. Caught it from one of the 50 times a day my child cough-spits in my face even when he's well. #unavoidable

@Kitchendoctor How can you prove that though? If it was a firsthand account from someone who had been isolating bar essential shopping etc then there's more credibility. But a colleague of your DH, it seems to always be someone who knows someone else who says that's how it happened.

I am worried about how tesco seem to be encouraging people to go to their shops instead of getting an online delivery

One of my parents did. Shopped daily, didn't see anyone else aside from each other. The shopping parent came down with it (tested positive).

Tesco are encouraging healthy people to go to the shops to leave the delivery slots open for those who are unable to shop in person. They have protective measures in place for their staff and for those customers who do shop in person, and, of course, you need to use your own sense to observe distancing, wash hands, not touch face (etc). What on earth else could Tesco possibly do better under the circumstances?

I'm in Italy and it's generally held that after exactly 4 weeks of lockdown people are only now catching it in 2 main places: hospitals and the supermarket.

I wonder how many retail workers have been infected and/or have died as a result? I think back 3-4 weeks when the panic buying was going on and before any controls were put on place. Poor staff were so exposed and handling cash etc.

Tesco has introduced a one way system in the aisles (I forgot and got told off)

I think my partner will quit his job I've said I don't mind but he works in a supermarket and the customers are just disgusting. They walk around coughing in mid air or just hover around etc I hope he does quit he's due back this weekend and my anxiety is through the roof. Our baby is 14 weeks old I really don't want him to get it or any of us

Even if everyone who went to the shops got it, that's still a hell of a lot of people who aren't getting it. Lots of households have no one going to the shops. Instead people shop for each other or get deliveries.

I got told off by a woman for going the wrong way.

Obviously dragging her husband around to push her trolley was OK though. In hindsight, I wish I'd mentioned that!

This will be the main way people catch it now, but it's not from people coughing or breathing on us, it's because the virus will be on doors, baskets etc.

Keep washing those hands and don't touch your face before you've washed them, ppl.

I think I must have done. I was shopping in my small local shops though where it was hard to keep my distance from people.

I know there is a lot of controversy about gloves. People are told its pointless wearing them because you are just touching surfaces and then transferring it other surfaces. However if you use them correctly and remove them as soon as you have your shopping in the boot and don't touch your driver door with them its much better than walking bare handed and bare faced and unconsciously touching your chops.
I was in Asda earlier to pick up my click and collect and there was no sanitiser for the trolleys and people weren't wearing gloves or masks.
I know a mask won't stop the teeny virus particles but it does stop me from touching my face.

Yes probably. I think my DD and I have it and since we've been under lockdown and only been exercising or going to the shops I can't imagine where else we would have got it.

I think we have the mild version, probably from the last time we were in a cafe before lockdown.

I am really worried as this is the only place I could potentially catch it. I am now shopping for 10 days to 2 weeks worth instead of weekly. With the queuing systems for the till- if you need to get something from the shelves next to the people queuing it's impossible to keep 2m away. Horrible how food shopping can make you anxious now. And people are all so stressed and unfriendly I find

I go to the shops twice a week (no car at the moment) and I am astonished how casual it is when you are in store (Aldi, M&S, Waitrose - only been to these 3 because they are smaller and in town).
They make you wait outside all neatly separated, but once you are in, its carnage.
What I find most astonishing is the amount of staff on the shop floor, filling shelves.
There is no way to get past them safely, and they are often talking to each other and moving around closely together.
I can't believe the actual shops are so busy (because of they way they restrict entry) that they can't be re-stocked after closing/before opening. I would hate to work in a supermarket right now, thankfully my workplace and colleagues are taking social distancing very seriously, and although my job is not essential and I can't WFH, I feel very safe at work and am happy to be working.
I am not an extreme person, I'm not washing my shopping or changing my clothes when I get home, but the supermarket is the only time I am not able to practice social distancing and I hate it there.

I work in a supermarket and bliming hate it. No protection and there are posters in staff area saying to keep 1 meter apart from each other. I thought it was 2 meters apart. We have hand sanitiser and told to go every 20 mins to wash our hands. We got gloves provided to
