Covid

Where are the mild cases? :(

We live in a town that has over 100 confirmed hospital cases and a fair amount of deaths. They say for every death theres alot of cases in the community. But nobody on facebook/parent groups/community groups seems to be reporting being ill (and i hope it stays that way) . Is there even mild cases out there?

417000 tests have been carried out approx.

I had it - in hospital for almost a mont, seriously ill. Lucky to be alive. There is a whole spectrum of severity from what I see. It was definitely not 'just the flu' for me.

Do you mean theres 600,000 unreported cases?

There must be loads if our numbers are based on how many people in hospital and deaths we have had.

Based on the 15% rule 98k is that of 600k putting our current death rate at around 2% if you add in another load of asymptomatic cases it probably more like 1million or so

1 million would still only be 1.5% of the population x

My cousin and family had the typical cough, fever etc symptoms. All relatively mild and recovered quickly. Little girl in 2 days

I believe I have it. I spoke to 111 yesterday and he suggested I could be in the 'early stages'. Yesterday, I just didn't feel quite right and the top of my back was very sore, almost as if someone had rubbed deep heat into it. I felt as if something was settling into my chest. I was also excessively tired. I woke up today feeling absolutely dreadful. Couldn't get up to get dressed and stayed in bed until early afternoon (I have two young children and I'm usually up at 6). I managed a late lunch and went downstairs to see the children. My back feels tight, my throat is sore and I generally feel off. No dry cough. Temperature a little higher than normal. I'm hoping I don't get any worse. I really wish they would test!

@MrsPworkingmummy that sounds like what I had - a week of that and now feel fine

@starray glad you are on the mend, that sounded horrendous. I think we all need regular reminders that this isn’t always mild or even a very bad flu/chest infection. It can be so much worse

Imperial london predict nearly 5% so around 3 and a half million

@merrygoround51 Thank you. I'm still trying to recover ...it's going to be a long time before I'm back to normal. I'm in my forties, so not exactly ancient.

In case anyone is wondering about symptoms, I had a temperature and a productive cough...not a dry cough (that's why I didn't think I had Covid at first)

@Jrobhatch29 No. They don't test in the community. It was a week after schools were closed. Lots of kids in the older girls class were coughing. Norfolk was a hot spot then. It went rapidly to all 4 members of the family and typical symptoms. It wasn't flu as it wasn't severe enough and it wasn't a typical cold as they all had a fever.

Has anyone had mild symptoms of this but usually gets flu or other illnesses pretty bad?

I believe that I had it. Was ill for around six weeks. It was so bad at one point that my DH was coming into our room in the middle of the night to check I was still breathing - I had no idea he was doing it at the time. DH was in the spare room as he was trying not to disturb me. He had mild symptoms. DS 1 age 9 had very very mild symptoms. DS2 age 6 had no symptoms at all. I have an underlying condition - asthma - so it’s no surprise that I got it the worst.

I have had something. Usually a fitness freak but got ill a month ago, had 2 weeks of mild flu like symptoms, took nurofen and felt OK. Terrible burning in the my chest and windpipe and shortness of breath which is only a just improving. But no test so who knows.

Salmonpasta · 17/04/2020 09:39

I know 3 people confirmed to have it and it was mild. There'll be thousands of people who've had it mildly or with no symptoms at all.

ppeatfruit · 17/04/2020 09:46

Yes Salmon The problem being without testing we don't know if we've actually had Covid or are 'carriers' or immune. So do we remain in lockdown and or wear masks\gloves when we go out?

Report
Salmonpasta · 17/04/2020 09:54

You can if you like. I'm not.

ppeatfruit · 17/04/2020 09:56

Me too but for how long?

Report
Salmonpasta · 17/04/2020 10:24

I'll continue to do that unless new legislation forces me to.

We're not trying to eradicate the virus (we can't without a vaccine) but slow the spread. So a lot of us are still going to get it if we haven't already.

I hate to say it but I think whereas people a month ago might say that they felt poorly or had a temperature or symptoms now they will keep quiet so they don't have to self isolate any more severely than we all now have to as we are straining against loss of liberty over many weeks now. Unless they're bedridden I don't think people will be aware of a lot of cases with symptoms people people will just keep it zipped so they can still get to Tesco's and not have to play the delivery slot lottery!

I believe myself (and a group of friends who had spent the weekend together) had it about 4 1/2 weeks ago; I’m not really talking about it as I cannot be certain and I feel like it sounds dramatic if I say I’ve had it. The 111 person I spoke to said it sounded like it, but I just don’t know. My symptoms were unpleasant for 2 days and then whilst I did improve (ie I could finally get out of bed), I still felt rough and then got the loss of taste & smell

All the people on the Lungs threads are probably classed as mild cases because they haven't been hospitalised (although some have been horrifically ill and I think some should have been in hospital).
