Where are the mild cases? :(

We live in a town that has over 100 confirmed hospital cases and a fair amount of deaths. They say for every death theres alot of cases in the community. But nobody on facebook/parent groups/community groups seems to be reporting being ill (and i hope it stays that way) . Is there even mild cases out there?

I’ve literally just posted on another thread, but I think me and my toddler DS and maybe my DP had it 3 weeks ago.

I had body aches, a slightly raised temperature, chills and a very sore throat for two days and then a cough developed, which I still have 3 weeks later, I also had rattling when I breathed.
My DS had a cough so bad it made him throw up and he had a slightly raised temp. He was very sleepy and off his food. He’s much better now.
My DP had a very slight cough, but he had diarrhoea for 3 days before either mine or DS symptoms started.
I’m still going to act as though I haven’t had it, but I’m convinced I did.

I had it, 2.5 weeks of feeling absolutely shit and NHS 111 flagged me as having it despite me not actually being tested as I stayed at home. I haven’t told anyone - I’m worried people will treat me like some sort of leper. Only my immediate family know.

If I or any of my family or friends had it, the last thing on my mind would be plastering it all over facebook. I have a friend who was taken to hospital by ambulance with it. She is now well on the mend, but is probably considered 'mild' as she wasnt ventilated. I know of quite a few people who have self isolated with symptoms but not many have announced it on sm. Thankfully a lot of people don't display too horrendous symptoms.

I've just been reading about a 12 week old baby that went into hospital with C19, luckily recovered quickly, her mum said all she had was a headache that wouldn't go away with painkillers.
Think of Idris Elba, he was asymptomatic and his wife similar, even Prince Charles seemed to fare well. Professor Chris Witty back at work, Nadinne Dorries and her elderley mother, both fine.

I had moderate symptoms for 14 days, my 6 year old had a slight temp for two days.

Old child hasn't had a thing...

@Jrobhatch29

Oh forgive me! I didn't know I had to report any cold/flu symptoms on Facebook. Will do so now and back date everything from over the winter. Hmm

Of course there are loads of mild cases. A very good friend of mine has had it along with her DH and three teenage kids. Not tested, but all the symptoms. Her teenagers and DH had a mild case, couple of days of feeling crap. She was worse and was in bed for a week.

None of them saw a GP, went to hospital, called 111 or had any intervention above rest, fluids and paracetamol. They are therefore not counted among the cases. One of their daughters is a trainee nurse and may be tested for antibodies at some point to give them all confirmation that it was actually Covid19 and not something else.

The only ones you're hearing about are the ones ill enough for hospital.

Look at the Lung thread. Plenty of people on their have ‘mild’ , ie non- hospitalised symptoms, which have lasted for weeks. I can assure you, there’s plenty of mild cases out there.

( And why would people pronounce, ‘I’m ill on Facebook etc)

My dsis has had it quite badly, she has had 4 weeks of symptoms, fevers, breathlessness, ended up in hospital with chest pain at one point.
One of her kids had milder symptoms, mild fever and a persistent cough, all the others were fine. Her husband merely had a few days of feeling like his chest was a bit tight and irritated and that was it. He hasn't been ill at all.
Some people won't even know they've had it. I work in a hospital and several of my colleagues all had the loss of smell several weeks ago before we knew it was a symptom. They were otherwise fine. Our hospital has subsequently started asking anyone with loss of smell or taste to report that as a symptom and self isolate, they will also get tested now.

A good friend works on a COVID ward and 5 of them (nurses) are 99% sure they had it and all went off sick within a few days of each other. It went pretty much the same way- headache first, then temperature, fever and chills, sore throat and cough then needing to go to bed for a couple of days before recovering.

My Mum has also potentially had it (high exposure due to her job) and she had a whacking headache that wouldn't go, body aches and pains, then chest pains. She is back at work.

It's all speculation until we have proper testing but I suspect these sorts of cases will be the most familiar ones.

There are loads. My cousin and his wife both frontline nhs workers, both confirmed cases and no worse than a bad cold for both.

Most mild cases won't even know theyve had it.

I know loads of people who have had coughs but I don't know how you'd tell mild coronavirus from other viral infections without testing

Oh and my friend and her family who have had it haven't put anything about their illness on social media.

At work (still in work) it's a daily conversation; people wondering if they've had it already, have it right now with no symptoms or no classic symptoms, etc. Pretty sure lots of us have had it without even noticing.

Report
SharonasCorona · 08/04/2020 09:38

I'm convinced I had it. I rarely get colds and never had flu, but a few weeks ago I had symptoms that I've never had before.

However, I'm sure a lot of us will think we had but didn't actually.

Me, DH and both dc have mild symptoms (unconfirmed obviously) so are self isolating. I’ve not put anything on social media etc or told anyone other than my dad (as we are his only support so had to make other arrangements).
Didn’t really want people worrying of wanting lots of updates on how we are.

If you are anxious and depressed then treat the symptoms, avoid social media, avoid the tv news, avoid papers. Replace them with music, meditation, keep fit and gardening to increase those happiness vibes.

This corona virus has a lot of comedy elements in it, the mad scientists herd immunity plan, the Scottish health minister for starters.

The actual figures are not that different from normal mortality rates.

We just don’t like the idea of it being us. Naturally.

Personally I lock the gate and stay on my own property 23/24.

I think I might have had it about 3 weeks ago but I wasn't tested so I won't know. Same symptoms as it- fever, chills, achy, tight chest but not so bad I couldn't breathe. Toddler also had a fever and cough at the same time. We isolated and are fine now. Still have the cough though which is unusual for me.

Report
Frompcat · 08/04/2020 09:42

Personally I lock the gate

Because if it's unlocked the virus will get in? Confused

My GP told me last Wednesday she has seen many mild cases, and many cases without the cough that have turned out to be COVID-19.

I may have it at the moment, I would not call it mild, but I guess as I am in the extremely high risk group I am very lucky I am not in hospital.

Maybe with this very real health crisis the people on your facebook feed have realised that their public hypochondriacal way were a bit ridiculous, and so have restrained themselves from posting any mild symptoms?

I think if someone had had a mild case a few weeks ago they would have just though they had a cold or maybe the regular flu.

sonjadog · 08/04/2020 09:45

I think I might have had it. High temperature one evening, tight chest, chest and muscle pains, wheezing. Lasted about 3-4 days. But on the other hand, I am asthmatic and it is the spring and it might be asthma related. Or it could have been some other bug I picked up. I know several other people who have had mild symptoms that may or may not have been it. I think people with mild symptoms probably don't mention them because of the uncertainty of whether you actually have it or not, and not wanting to make a fuss if it isn't anything.

BearSoFair · 08/04/2020 09:46

We think DS1 (18) had a mild case last month. Splitting headache for 2 days, then what he described as feeling like the start of a cold for a few days, but absolutely no taste or smell for 19 days. On Sunday it'll be a month and he still can't distinguish savoury flavours but is getting sweet back.

Well I do not usually get any of the flues or colds that do the rounds every year. BUT this March the 14th I began something with a sore throat then vile tickly cough (productive) loss of sense of smell and slight temperature for 3 days. Not bad enough to stay in bed though. it's still hanging on a bit , I'm self isolating and none of my family has got it at the moment (even though I saw them all on the very day it began.)

DD2 has had it (not tested though) her symptoms were classic. She has been away so I hadn't seen her, and she thinks I may have had it mildly .

Who knows Hmm
