Where from and to? Certainly ask.

VivaLeBeaver · 06/04/2020 17:48

I guess they’re keeping some flights going incase it’s essential travel?

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 06/04/2020 17:48

How do you know they haven’t? Mine was cancelled but no one told me (nor Opodo nor the airline). I spent 3,5 hours waiting on the phone to double check.
What I’m saying have you called them and confirmed it is still going aheaf? My flight was showimg as live for three days after I was told over the phone it was cancelled.

LIZS · 06/04/2020 17:52

You need to wait fir their cancellation, otherwise you can only reclaim air taxes.

CodenameVillanelle · 06/04/2020 17:54

You can't claim a refund if they don't cancel it I'm afraid

CodenameVillanelle · 06/04/2020 17:54

However you may be able to change it for free

LooQoo · 06/04/2020 18:10

Mine have been cancelled but neither the app or website are processing refunds Confused

pachyderm · 06/04/2020 18:15

Mine are definitely cancelled (if I tried to book them hypothetically on their website the dates are whited out and it's soon enough) but I've heard nothing from them and I don't seem to have the option to get a refund online, I try to do it and it tells me to log in, but I'm already logged in.

They're complete pricks in general, I wouldn't be surprised if they're trying to wriggle out of refunds. They can't though, legally. Am bracing myself for a lengthy session trying to speak to a customer rep.

LaCerbiatta · 06/04/2020 19:10

From London to Lisbon and yes it's the ones that they're keeping on. If I try to book the same flight it's available.

But they've cancelled the return, can I not argue that if we went we would be stranded there? Also, it's against FCO advice, they should allow a refund....

LaCerbiatta · 06/04/2020 19:12

@pachyderm are you flying with Ryanair?

OP posts:
LooQoo · 06/04/2020 19:13

Mine are Ryan Air, yes.

As someone else said, their customer service is famously bad and I’m wondering if they are deliberately crashing the refund part of their website.

WhereDidMyEyebrowsGo · 06/04/2020 19:31

Sounds like Ryanair. We were due to fly from Leeds to Dublin during the horrific storms in 2016/2017 - can't remember which year exactly.

Ireland had shut down all their airports but we still had to turn up to Leeds/Bradford Airport to check in and stand in a queue to board until they decided that the flight was cancelled to be able to claim a refund. We could hear the wind battering against the huge glass windows of the airport. It was obvious that nothing would be landing or taking off.

They had cancelled every single other flight in and out of the airport that day except ours. Why the fuck they thought that a flight out of the highest airport in England, the first to be shut as soon as the weather gets bad, to an airport that had been closed hours earlier would be happening I have no idea.

I'm still baffled by it. It was obvious that we couldn't fly hours earlier. Leeds Bradford Airport was subject to storm force winds and Dublin airport had closed. Yet our flight was only cancelled 20 minutes before we were due to board. But we had a good night eventually. We went back home, drank wine and ate pizza. And visited Dublin a year later!

pachyderm · 06/04/2020 19:37

@LaCerbiatta yes, Ryanair. I'm convinced they're deliberately trying to not refund - has anyone here actually managed to get a refund from them yet?

LooQoo · 06/04/2020 20:45

I’m setting my alarm for 3 am. Will try then and hope the website is less busy (giving them the benefit of the doubt). I’ll post if I manage to get a refund.

LooQoo · 07/04/2020 06:32

Still no joy! Surely the website can’t have been too busy at 3:30 this morning. Think I’ve got 3 hours on hold to them to look forward to.

Meandyouandyouandme · 07/04/2020 07:00

I’m due a refund for flights in March, I clicked on the refund button about 10 days ago and not had any money back yet. No idea when/if I’ll get it.

SegregateMumBev · 07/04/2020 07:09

If the flight's not cancelled you wont get a rufund. We we booked on a flight to Berlin at the weekend, which wasn't cancelled, so we've had to go through travel insurance.

BUT you might be able to rebook the flight for a later date with no admin fee.

Eireni · 07/04/2020 07:19

I may be a bear of very little brain but how can they not refund flights when the FCO have advised against all travel everywhere indefinitely? (Separate debate about how helpful that is!)

teainthetardis · 07/04/2020 07:23

Might it help that the foreign office has now advised against all non essential travel? I believe this may change things?

peachypetite · 07/04/2020 07:26

I got a refund really easily from them when they cancelled my flight. The website kept crashing obviously due to high numbers using it but I spoke to someone on live chat who processed it for me.

chinateapot · 07/04/2020 07:30

If the FCO has advised against essential travel that’s a reason to claim on your travel insurance. If the airline is running the flight (and there is still some essential travel) I’m not sure why they should have to refund travellers.

MegCleary · 07/04/2020 07:33

Try them on twitter

lockdownstress · 07/04/2020 07:34

You claim on your insurance. If you never take out travel insurance then use all the money you have saved on premiums over the years.

VivienLeighsHandbag · 07/04/2020 07:36

They quite often leave it until the very last minute to cancel to avoid refunds. I’d keep waiting to see what happens - you’re obviously not going to be able to go. They recently messed us about coming back from Nice in storm Dennis. All other airlines cancelled flights but not them. Took off late and then 5 mins before a very scary landing, told us we were landing in Bristol not London due to weather. Had to wait 4 hours for a coach to drive us back to London airport, then drive home. Just to avoid refunds and cost of cancelling we reckon.

yearinyearout · 07/04/2020 07:45

Try live chat, I got through in 25 mins when the wait on the phone was several hours.
