Ocado slots

For those with the smart pass have you now been managing to get slots?

Just went on their website and wait was just one minute, then I had lots of options for slots.

They seem to have got their act together pretty quickly. Prices seem to be higher though but I think that's the lack of special offers.

Checked Sainsbury's and cant even log in so the same situation there

I've come back to slightly eat my words.

Woke up at 3.30am and decided to check for an Ocado slot. Nothing doing, so I decided to look at Asda and got a click and collect order for Saturday. A miracle! I've spent the last 2 hours doing a delivery for us and our daughter, who is a single parent. Fingers crossed that it works ok.

cultkid · 09/04/2020 07:30

I've booked deliveries for the next month and don't even queue to get into ocado
I don't understand

peoplepleaser1 · 09/04/2020 08:30

@knittingaddict fantastic! I'm really pleased that you finally got a slot. My cat woke me up at 3.30am so I've been up since then and have bagged four slots for people.

I haven't got any for myself though- so I'm going to try that today.

knittingaddict · 09/04/2020 09:47

I have to admit that it was your post that made me try Asda again, so thank you for that. Even if I did act all affronted at the time. Blush

I checked Ocado, wrote them yet another email about their lack of proper communication and decided to check Asda, as I was awake anyway. Couldn't believe that there actually was one.

It is hard though. I'm a poor sleeper at the best of times and it's going to take a while to adjust to doing a full shop in the middle of the night.
Could be worse though.

knittingaddict · 09/04/2020 09:48

Where are you cultkid? I think that makes a difference, but it's anyone's guess really.

knittingaddict · 09/04/2020 09:53

I can go straight on to the Ocado site or occasionally a queue of maybe 5 minutes at the most. I can fill my basket with all sorts of lovely food and check my account. Just can't get any bloody delivery slots.

cultkid · 09/04/2020 09:55

@knittingaddict I'm in East Kent; Margate to be specific

cultkid · 09/04/2020 09:56

@knitting did you click on calendar? Not just the arrows but calendar

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 09/04/2020 10:03

@HealingCalmingSoothing This is what Ocado say in FAQs around shielding customers

“Like all supermarkets across the UK, we have received the government’s vulnerable shield list and have cross-referenced it with our customer database to help support those in need. We have already identified our customers on the vulnerable list and reached out to offer them delivery slots with ocado.com. We will continue to do our part as the government updates its shield list. We urge everybody to consider their community and how they can support those most in need.”

I think it is pretty clear from this that if you’re vulnerable but not an existing customer then you’re not going to be able to get deliveries from them. Which sucks for those people but I imagine they’ve taken the view that the shield list is so large compared to their market share (1.5% of groceries generally) they wouldn’t be able to service any of their existing customers if they let them all get deliveries.

did you click on calendar? Not just the arrows but calendar

Yes, I have. It's been suggested before to other people in my situation and we've all tried it.

I can see 3 days worth with a sentence through it saying "Sorry, no slots available for the selected days". If you click on the calendar it shows the month with the 3 days in a green box and you can't click on any other days. Believe me, I've tried.

We live in the Bath area of the South West.

knittingaddict · 09/04/2020 10:15

Bold fail, sorry.

My husband is vulnerable, we have been anytime smart pass holders for 4 years and Ocado customers for years before that and still can't get a slot now.

There seems to be confusion in Ocado about vulnerable and extremely vulnerable. I told them my husband is on the vulnerable list and they wrote back to suggest registering with the government. He can't do that. Ocado keep saying vulnerable in their emails and social media posts, when they actually mean extremely vulnerable. Words matter.

cultkid · 09/04/2020 11:38

I won't be on the vulnerable list
I am able to order for every single week there is availability for me on the Tuesdays

UpperLowercaseSymbolNumber · 09/04/2020 11:50

@knittingaddict yes Ocado’s comms have definitely lacked precision in a number of key ways since the pandemic started. You’d have thought they would have improved over recent weeks but seems not.

From the FAQs it certainly appears they are referencing the shielding list but then say vulnerable in the next sentence which doesn’t help. Not only is this unhelpful to customers it is unhelpful to their customer teams/social media teams who then have to field all the queries from people that could be easily avoided.

knittingaddict · 09/04/2020 12:11

The two tier vulnerable list is causing no end of trouble. The way I read it is that the government know that the list of people vulnerable to this illness is huge. The original list of the vulnerable had to be pared down to the ones the government could reasonably deal with ie send food parcels to. The supermarkets are using the same list to prioritise their deliveries, but that leaves other vulnerable people to scrabble around for what delivery slots there are left with no means of getting themselves marked as also requiring help.

Ocado's communication has been terrible as you can see from looking at Twitter. They appear to be hiding behind the list of vulnerable even though there are lots of people in need not getting help.

It's obvious from reading social media that there are customers with disabilities who are being totally ignored now, despite having relied on Ocado in the past. We can manage, but what about them? Makes me very sad.

knittingaddict · 09/04/2020 12:12

Do you have a smart pass cultkid? I can't remember if you have said previously.

penisbeakers · 09/04/2020 12:20

I can't get a slot at all.

cultkid · 09/04/2020 13:14

I do have a smart pass yes @knittingaddict but I can get a delivery every week and had three substitutions only this week?
The week before the rationed the veg I was getting bizzarrely.. I am shopping for my in-laws too so the rations arent ideal with half of us drinking different milks etc
so why have I been given a priority and been able to book once a week and always pretty much got what I ordered
Rations seem to of been lifted as well which is helpful as they too need eggs and things like that

knittingaddict · 09/04/2020 13:41

When I've had an order it's been great. The vast majority of things are in stock and the substitutions are sensible. I think in that respect they've done better than some other supermarkets. Which is why I want to use them. Sad

dontcallmelen · 09/04/2020 14:30

@Knittingaddict I think you have hit the nail on the head, those of us on the vulnerable list seem to be missed out quite a bit, I totally agree with those having to shield should have priority, I have been a customer of Ocado for a couple of years, I just keep getting bounced back to the generic message page advising that I’m not on the priority list & try again later, I have heart failure/dilated cardiomyopathy which wouldn’t bode well for me if I did get the virus, but I cannot register as vulnerable.
Does seem a bit of mess🤦‍♀️

Didkdt · 09/04/2020 19:56

Ocado isn't delivering to all customers who are shielding you have to be shielding and have declared you have no way of getting groceries
I didn't tick that box because I didn't want a food parcel as I felt our need was that desperate at the time

BringMeSunshineInMyLife · 09/04/2020 20:31

Same here- out booked deliveries ran out- we actually ended our ocado pass about 6 weeks ago- and we couldn't get a slots- registered on the government site and then filled the form in on ocado. Didn't hear anything- got an email from Tesco and checked and we also had ocado slots.

My mother is any ocado anytime pass holder- logged on today and there were dozens of slots across the next few days (didnt look beyond that but almost every slot was available)

penisbeakers · 10/04/2020 00:35

I'm immunocompromised but I'm not vulnerable enough to be on the list. I can't get a slot anywhere, so I'm having to physically go to a supermarket and put myself at risk. I don't drive either, so I either have to get little enough to carry home, or risk getting a taxi.

I certainly don't begrudge very vulnerable people getting the slots, in fact I'm pleased that it's how ocado have been processing things. It's just I'd really like to be able to get something rather than risking myself every time, since I also live alone.

Definitely interesting times.

@Milky77

It’s exactly the same email until you get to book a delivery..

Booking a delivery
We consider you one of our most loyal customers, so we’re currently offering you one delivery every 7 days. You will also see slot availability up to three weeks ahead of time – so we encourage you to book multiple slots in advance to avoid disappointment.
As part of this group, you will go straight through to the website every time. If you have to queue at all, it won’t be for long.
Seeing slot availability
If you’ve had a recent or upcoming delivery, you may not see future delivery slots. Delivery slots will not be visible 6 days either side of a delivery, in order to manage the frequency you’ve been promised.
If you don’t have any deliveries booked but still can’t see any available slots when you log on, it could be that you’re trying to view too far in advance, or we haven’t released extra slots yet.
If you have any questions, hopefully our dedicated Coronavirus FAQs page can give you any more information you need.
We’re pleased to say that we've worked hard with suppliers in order to start removing restrictions on most products. We’re still temporarily limiting certain products to one or two items per order but, as supply improves, the list is getting shorter every day.
We also want to take a second to say a huge thank you to all our collegues, especially those working round the clock to get groceries to as many customers as possible. They’re truly doing an amazing job.
And to you, our customers, we can't thank you enough for your patience and understanding during these unprecedented times.
