Just wondering how everyone is doing.

We had a good start with a Brexit stash. Have had a couple of click and collects and one normal supermarket shop. DH has been checking regularly for stock though. Our supermarket has been up and down in terms of stock.
We have most stuff, couldn’t get cornflakes last week and can’t get tinned tomatoes. Trying to cook with potatoes as much as we can as pasta is sometimes not available. Loo roll arrived as normal last week in the clock and collect.

I think we’ve been quite lucky and fortunate to be able to stock up in advance.

How’s everyone else doing? Missing major stuff and having to eat odd combinations or fairly complete now.

awful, fridge is dwindling and I'm out of money lol.. eating what we have left! Its random

40somethingJBJ · 07/04/2020 18:29

We’ve not been too bad here. Local butchers and greengrocers are doing deliveries and I managed to get a click and collect from Asda last weekend to stock up the freezer and cupboards. We’re not necessarily getting what we would choose, but we’re eating ok (probably better than normally actually as less access to convenience foods) and I’ve managed to not have to go into a shop yet.

TheRuralJuror · 07/04/2020 18:32

Shopping for a family of 5 (1 shielded) and my mum (lives across town...also shielded). Trying to go to shops as infrequently as possible, as can't get a delivery slot, whilst also keeping within limits (and ensuring enough for 6!)
I seem to be constantly worrying about bloody food (especially running out of ds's few 'safe foods')

Star8181 · 07/04/2020 18:32

Im coeliac and lactose intolerant, so is DS. Can’t get our usual gluten free bread, can’t get any GF porridge, soya yoghurt or my usual LF soft cheese. And definitely no GF pasta. We also rely on rice a lot as an alternative but almost used up the bit we had in but can’t get that either. Thankfully managed to get my LF milk so I can have a cuppa at least!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 07/04/2020 18:37

Absolutely fine here. I'm not isolating as I'm low risk so I'm still shopping in store at the supermarkets. Stock is pretty much back to normal, I've managed to get everything I need every week. My local Aldi has everything - plenty of toilet roll, pasta, eggs, tinned goods, flour and meat.

Only trivial thing I couldn't get last week was smooth orange juice so I had to buy juice with pulp in it. Grin

Amazed at the amount of people and their “Brexit” stashes 🤣

starfishmummy · 07/04/2020 18:45

DH has been using our local shops and has teoirted things are more or less back to normal. Some shortages but he is a competent cook so goes with an ioen mind that we need x amount of meals and can shop from what is there

Rosebel · 07/04/2020 18:45

Can't get a lamb joint for Sunday which is a nightmare. Eggs are a bit hit and miss, not sure about pasta as we managed to buy a 5kg bag at the beginning of March so working our way through that.
Having said that my husband has just gone shopping so we'll see what he comes back with.

bigmumsymcgraw · 07/04/2020 18:52

Surely Rosebel getting Coronavirus is a nightmare not going without your leg of lamb! How the other half live lol!

Piggywaspushed · 07/04/2020 18:52

DH got lamb yesterday... he neglected to check Use Buy date... tomorrow....

Piggywaspushed · 07/04/2020 18:53

Legs of Lamb and coronavirus are not mutually exclusive.

We have been lucky. Unable to get deliveries but did manage a click and collect which was fab, and I managed to get stuff for my uncle too and drop it off. We should be good for a couple of week again now. Just need to pop round to the corner shop for milk, bread and fruit.

HasaDigaEebowai · 07/04/2020 19:01

@Star8181 Lakeland have gluten free bread mixes

Bluewavescrashing · 07/04/2020 19:04

DH did a panic shop in Lidl about 3 weeks ago 😬 nothing to do with me. Tins, pasta, rice, loo roll, etc. This is lasting well.

We are having a fortnightly delivery box from the local butcher. Very nice quality. Quite a lot of uncooked meat in our 2 freezers and batch cooked meals frozen in containers. Soups, stews, lasagne etc.

Latest grocery delivery box from farm shop is arriving tomorrow with milk, bread, fruit, veg, salad, butter, cream and cheese. A huge 25kg sack of potatoes came last week.

I haven't been to the supermarket for 4 weeks and am hoping not to go vac k for a long while. Considering buying catering size packs of tins online if possible, also we are running out of condiments, herbs etc but we can live without those.

Jack80 · 07/04/2020 19:09

Doing a weekly shop either online or click and collect

YukoandHiro · 07/04/2020 19:12

Only thing we're struggling with is bread as it's being rationed - family so get through a lot. Almost a whole loaf can go if everyone has sandwiches for lunch

tararabumdeay · 07/04/2020 19:12

We've been alright but that's only because I took hold of the purse strings middle of last year. If it'd been like it was for the last 20 plus years we'd be down to £10 for gas, electric, food.

I feel so sorry for women who are still in the position I used to be.

We're not rich 20k between two of us plus rent to pay plus adult DC paying £50 a week home and board whilst saving for a deposit.

Lou12124 · 07/04/2020 19:32

Did a big shop last week well pleased...should've lasted 3 weeks. Freezer broke...all food thawed before we realise and had to throw all away. Now have nothing but pasta and milk in the sink keeping cool while we wait for new fridge freezer to be delivered tomorrow 😩

LittleGsmum · 07/04/2020 19:33

Missing tinned toms ☹️ Had 4 cans in cupboard, what usually have, that was 3 weeks ago and haven’t been able to get any since.
However, plenty of fresh fruit and veg on market and meat in butcher so feel lucky compared to some.

Wehttam · 07/04/2020 19:42

M&S are fully stocked usually if you’re desperate and it’s not your usual go to place.

Natsku · 07/04/2020 19:43

One of my local supermarkets has just started a click and collect or home delivery service and we tried it out for the first time. Placed a large order yesterday, even put down hand sanitiser but of course didn't expect them to have any but picked it up today and they had it! They had everything except for a couple of chocolate things and cauliflower. It's the more expensive supermarket in my town though so that probably explains it, most people shop in the other one.

Rosebel · 07/04/2020 19:52

Don't be silly bigmumsy . Not every single thing has to be compared to the coronavirus. You know perfectly well I wasn't comparing them.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 07/04/2020 19:54

Not been to the shops since 18th March (shielding DS) . Have managed to get fortnightly deliveries more by luck than anything, and with careful meal planning we will be OK until the end of the month. After that who knows, DS is on the extremely vulnerable list so hopefully we might have priority deliveries by then. Quite prepared to do without some things and be creative though!

bluebeck · 07/04/2020 19:58

Amazed at the amount of people and their “Brexit” stashes

Why? Did you miss all the Brexit Preppers threads? Confused

I still have tins of soup/beans and have my rice and pasta stash and toilet roll from aforementioned Brexit stash.

I also scheduled a delivery as soon as things started to look dicey and that came Friday last week. Enough to keep us going for at least 10 days then I have a Click and Collect scheduled.

Adult DS and I don't eat an awful lot of meat though so that probably makes things easier for us.
