Just wondering how everyone is doing.

We had a good start with a Brexit stash. Have had a couple of click and collects and one normal supermarket shop. DH has been checking regularly for stock though. Our supermarket has been up and down in terms of stock.
We have most stuff, couldn’t get cornflakes last week and can’t get tinned tomatoes. Trying to cook with potatoes as much as we can as pasta is sometimes not available. Loo roll arrived as normal last week in the clock and collect.

I think we’ve been quite lucky and fortunate to be able to stock up in advance.

How’s everyone else doing? Missing major stuff and having to eat odd combinations or fairly complete now.

I'm shopping this evening, it has been quite tricky with no pasta, rice or tinned food available for about 3 weeks now. Toilet rolls finally reappeared last week just as we were down to our last 2 rolls. I'm hoping to at least be able to get rice and baked beans tonight.

buttermilkwaffles · 06/04/2020 15:08

Managed to get toilet paper, tinned tomatoes, pasta (fresh and dried) and long life milk at the large Sainsbury's last week. No seeded/ wholemeal bread or bread flour or yeast though.

They had everything else on my list except tinned chickpeas, full fat Greek yogurt, Kalamata olives in jars and fruit compote.

HavenDilemma · 06/04/2020 15:21

@Picklypickles The stuff that is brown and comes in clear bottles. Is about 29p a bottle! Usually is Pine scented.

Atleastthedoglovesme · 06/04/2020 15:56

We didn't stockpile, prep or panic buy and so far haven't gone without anything. Shops around here and fully stocked and well organised - tbh my family have never eaten so well as I have so much time on my hands, I've been cooking up a storm and baking regularly too.

EwwSprouts · 06/04/2020 16:25

I had to go to the post office today so also went to the greengrocer in same row. Shelves full and plenty of eggs too. Also selling jars of antipasti in our northern wasteland. Grin

butterry · 06/04/2020 16:36

We were lucky enough to have most of our online delivery shops show up and with not many things missing. I have also been shopping for another 2 households unable to leave the house- one with suspected Covid and the other elderly with health conditions. Dropping odd bits off for friends who cannot get out easily. Have been much more careful with meal planning and not wasting what we do have. I think this will be something to learn for the future as we just always bought and had what we fancied without paying it much thought before. I realised that I need to be much more aware and grateful for what we do have.

motheroftwoboys · 06/04/2020 17:13

Completely normal here in the north east apart from long queues because of social distancing. Have to remember to take my phone and headphones out to entertain myself.

Doggodogington · 07/04/2020 08:42

Can’t remember which of you called me arrogant and privileged but I don’t think I’m either for living in a place where shops were well stocked. Tesco and Lidl, those are the shops near me. I’m sure they did run out....until the next delivery day. I didn’t see what the fuss was about because we were never ever going to run out of food!!! It was crazy believing that we were. Warehouses are full, bakeries are baking, farmers are farming butchers are erm butching Confused
The shops had low stock for a couple of days because people spout all the nonsense about food shortage and how they’ve prepped for the fucking apocalypse and they make other people panic buy. Ooh, maybe I should be prepping then, ooh look at him he’s grabbed 4 packets of pasta, maybe I should grab 4 packets of pasta etc etc then there’s no pasta....for a couple of days. Grips need to be gotten!

HasaDigaEebowai · 07/04/2020 09:11

Its isn't so much that people think the shops will run out of food though is it. Its the fact that there is a virus which is highly contagious and kills people. As a result people don't want to go near the shops if they don't absolutely have to (apart from my DF who sees it as some sort of social event Hmm). So people who were going bought more to last them through a few weeks.

But for what its worth I do think there will be food issues. Not to the extent that there is nothing at all to eat but certainly to the extent that certain things will get difficult. We already had issues in this country due to the flooding etc and that will continue with a lack of staff to pick produce. We will struggle to get enough perishable veg/fruit like tomatoes etc at a decent price (I'm not saying there won't be any but prices are likely to increase) since they come from overseas and various of the very large rice producing countries have already banned exports which will affect both supply and price in this country.

Nimmykins · 07/04/2020 17:32

We’re okay. Had a Brexit stash. We’ve had successful supermarket shops.

What’s also handy is we have some great local shops and small wholesale and catering businesses converting to retail in my town.

What has also helped is our growing street and wonder community WhatsApp with people banding together to shop and buy wholesale, so none have gone short.

I’m second tier vulnerable, so I’m grateful for the outside help.

Mesoavocado · 07/04/2020 17:34

Have enough non fresh food for a couple of weeks

Went during NHS hour this morning and could have built a castle with the amount of toilet roll. Didn’t need any myself

Only stuff not available was hand soap and vegetable oil

Bozlem80 · 07/04/2020 17:44

Very lucky, had stuff in before isolation but have had deliveries of fresh food & essentials the last 2 weeks & my neighbour is a butcher so he has been leaving me meat on my doorstep so I can do Sunday lunch, I’ve never cooked so much in my life though Grin

Nsky · 07/04/2020 17:49

My local lidl very well stocked, getting everything I want except plain flour

musketeers123 · 07/04/2020 17:52

We not even looking at supermarket deliveries - should be for the old/vulnerable only. My parents can not even get a slot as although my DM has respiratory issues and my dad has had open heart surgery 4 times + had terminal Prostate cancer (too ill to hv Chemo or Radiotherapy) they are not in the right categories... Rant over ... We are going out abt 2-3 times a week and are hv managed to get what we normally do. Obvs not at the stupid Stockpiling stage!!!. We are being v careful, keeping dcs inside- just in the garden - not to the shops xxx

LesLavandes · 07/04/2020 17:54

No Easter Eggs anywhere for my children

MadMadaMim · 07/04/2020 17:55

Was Brexit Stash a thing?

All good here. I'd been on our 2 month Costco run 2 days before the madness started so have loo roll, kitchen roll, pasta, rice, cereals, freezer topped up.

We also have loads of independent shops and farm shops so have found everything - eggs, flour, yeast etc.

DaveTheDesigner · 07/04/2020 17:57

Brexit stash?!! That’s a new one on me! And I though the virus hoarding was moronic. Never realised that Brexit was a precursor 🤡

nowaitaminute · 07/04/2020 17:57

@LesLavandes where are you? Are there really NO Easter eggs!! That's madness they are Everywhere here!! Confused

FelicisNox · 07/04/2020 18:01

We're able to get most things: toilet roll, eggs and rice have reappeared but but we're still having issues with pasta and flour.

Beepboop22 · 07/04/2020 18:01

I'm missing small comforts like treats, snacks, but after a neighbour's DC did a shop for us we've got pasta, milk, other staples and that's all that matters to me right now!

glennamy · 07/04/2020 18:03

If some people didn't act like selfish pr1cks there would have been plenty for all as there normally is... I live in a village near a market town, and apart from the initial dickhead weeks (pasta & bog roll) there was and is plenty of everything.

I also find it telling that there was never a lack of fresh food available with a good week's date left! Says it all about some members of society!

Whycantibeapuppy · 07/04/2020 18:11

We are okay. Like you we had a bit of a Brexit stash on the basics and I have a wholesalers card for my job so have been doing shops for toilet rolls etc and sharing them out to people in my street that need them

Iamamoleinthegarden · 07/04/2020 18:15

We didn’t go nuts with emptying supermarket shelves and just carried on as usual. The situation is normal here. No problems. Our Tesco delivery was stopped so we cycle to another supermarket.

ssd · 07/04/2020 18:19

We've been eating freezer food so we don't need to shop and it's been good to get through it.

ivegotthisyeah · 07/04/2020 18:26

Struggling as much as I got food in the days before lock down the three kids are rapidly going through it. Single parent to three small kids can't get an online delivery for love or money did a 20 mile round trip for a click and collect last week as I don't feel comfortable taking them a supermarket and not sure I'm allowed to.
Oh and their dad has taken lock down to reduce my maintenance as apparently I'm spending it on myself. Great timing having them here 24/7 and we aren't leaving the house! ( he isn't furlonged or anything just being nasty).
Keep checking supermarket online slots do they release them at a certain time?
