Shielded group and online food shopping

Does anyone know how those in the shielded group can get slots for online food shopping. Is it just like everyone else, or is there somewhere to register to get priority?

My DH is in the shielding group however when registering on the government site you should only click you need help with food if you are on your own and have no way of getting family or friends to get you shopping. The supermarkets have already been provided with the list of those who need help. We didnt click on the need help with food as we dont and are therefore not on the supermarkets list.

I do manage to shop online anyway and would prefer to leave the priority slots to those who truly need it.

They had already gone by the time you posted on here locally @Stupidandmiserable. Thanks though and hopefully someone who in need got one.

I'm constantly on various sites looking for slots throughout the day and night. It's almost starting to feel like the lottery, will I be a winner today. Grin

At the moment I know there are people out there who need more urgent help. The shit will hit the fan here not long after takeaways get forced to close.

We managed a couple of other workarounds as well, which again extremely lucky to get this. But only temp short term solutions, still need to do a 'proper' shop.

What is annoying though as it must be for a lot of people is knowing the holdup was partially caused in the beginning when people started to block book slots, some even cancelled at the last minute kind of thing because no longer needed. the slot and supermarkets had to deal with this, and the fall out from having to cancel excessive bookings etc.

Ignore me though I'm having a little rant at the situation really.

Tesco have been brilliant since they got the shielding list. We've been offered more slots than we need (so obviously haven't taken them) and they have been so kind, helpful and efficient. And I never thought I'd say that about Tesco!

Once you've been recognised as vulnerable via the government website the supermarkets will contact you

That still hasn't happened for me. It's confusing as some here are saying they didn't tick the need help box but still got the emails, and some saying they had to tick that box.
I've been messaging with Tesco but they haven't been any help apart from giving me a number to call you can't get through on :(

@Egghead68 The text came after registering on the Gov website. It included:

“If you told us you need help getting food and supplies, but you are not on the clinically extremely vulnerable list, we’ll share your details with supermarkets. They may be able to help.”

Egghead68 · 11/04/2020 23:31

Thanks @faithinallisee. It looks like that applies only to people not on the extremely vulnerable list.

faithinallisee · 11/04/2020 23:43

No, the government are sharing details of extremely vulnerable people with the supermarkets too. EG from the Waitrose website: “We will also be contacting those on the list of extremely vulnerable people the government has shared with retailers.“

Egghead68 · 11/04/2020 23:48

Yes but irrespective of whether we rocked the box saying we need help with food and supplies. The ticking the box is only relevant to others.
