Shielded group and online food shopping

ALemonyPea · 05/04/2020 21:30

Does anyone know how those in the shielded group can get slots for online food shopping. Is it just like everyone else, or is there somewhere to register to get priority?

I've had Emails from Tesco, and Iceland offering slots, nothing from Asda, which is strange because I'm registered with them.

faithinallisee · 10/04/2020 22:08

Asda have shown themselves to be the good guys here. They’re proactively emailing those who have registered as extremely vulnerable on the Gov website to offer them regular shopping slots.

Egghead68 · 10/04/2020 22:13

I was emailed by Tesco, although they don’t have many/any slots available. I phoned Sainsbury’s. They said they would add me to their extremely vulnerable list but didn’t. However, when I phoned again they said they could offer me an emergency slot if I had no food in. I emailed Waitrose to say I am on the extremely vulnerable register but did not hear back from them.

I’m going with Tesco at the moment. New vulnerable slots seem to get added at midnight and I have managed to bag one.

Egghead68 · 10/04/2020 22:17

Ah - I think Sainsburys and Waitrose might not have picked me up from the extremely vulnerable register as I changed my settings to “I do not need help now” to try to suppress the government food parcels (I was getting more than one a week, non-vegetarian and I’d rather choose my own food). I’ll go back into the website and change this.

Madhairday · 10/04/2020 22:21

I've still heard nothing but did tick the box that I had support so that's presumably why, I did tweet Tesco and they said they couldn't find me on the list so I guess they only get the list of those who don't have any support at all which is fair enough but dh is trying to minimise going out to protect me, it's difficult to know what to do.

ALemonyPea · 10/04/2020 22:51

If you didn't tick the box for additional help, you can register again apparently, it does say you can if your circumstances change.

UnrulySalvia · 10/04/2020 23:07

@Madhairday if you're highly vulnerable then your DP should be shielding too to protect you (as you say). Don't feel bad about unticking the box. (NB, we're the opposite with me shielding to protect DP and only ticked the box as we have neighbours who can help).

Tigerty · 10/04/2020 23:15

I got emails from Asda and Sainsbury’s. Sainsbury’s I’ve not managed to get a slot yet. Asda I did get one but 7 things were removed from my list in the 10 minutes between adding products and checkout. My friend also warned me that Asda will only let you change your shopping list once.

Thankfully I’ve managed to book another slot through Tesco by sheer fluke for the week after. Not had an email from them either.

So being on the shielded list does not guarantee you a slot or that you’ll be able to get what you want.

MyDcAreMarvel · 10/04/2020 23:30

@LoveBeingAMum555
At the moment DS cannot get any priority slots, presumably because he ticked that someone could shop for him,
No it means you won’t get a government food parcel. Register with Tesco Asda and Iceland with the same email address as the government have and you will get priority slots. Can take over a week.

LoveBeingAMum555 · 11/04/2020 10:57

@MyDcAreMarvel thank you, it's reassuring to know that, he is now registered with Asda and Tesco so hopefully we will get an email soon.

faithinallisee · 11/04/2020 12:43

@MyDcAreMarvel The text off the government clearly says that email addresses will only be shared with supermarkets if you said that you were unable to get food.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2020 13:17

No that’s not true I filled it in for both myself and a shielding family member and ticked i could access food and family member could not.
I received priority slots my family member government food parcels.
I also have three friends who are shielding and answered that they had access to food and also got priory slots.
The data is passed to supermarkets for everyone that is registered as extremely vulnerable.

Egghead68 · 11/04/2020 13:18

Which text was that please?

Egghead68 · 11/04/2020 13:19

My question is to @faithinallisee. None of the many texts I have had have mentioned supermarkets.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2020 13:34

My texts haven’t mentioned supermarkets either , there are also hoax texts doing the rounds.

Pandoraslastchance · 11/04/2020 13:40

I'm still waiting for online delivery. I'm shielded,
I've got my letter,
I've done the .gov website,
I've triple checked that it's all the same email address for the supermarkets(I've got existing accounts with asda, sainsburys, Tesco's and Morrison's)

And still nothing. Which of my children do I have to sacrifice and to which deity?

All this stress and worry is making my heart failure from my chemo worsen as now I'm so stressed I go dizzy when i stand.

QuaverQueen · 11/04/2020 13:46

I’ve just tried Sainsbury’s again using DH’s email, that I’d registered him as being shielded but still saying he’s not recognised.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2020 14:47

Sainsbury’s is not the best to use anyway as they have given priority to all over 70’s as well as the shielded group. Tesco and Asda have only prioritised the shielding group as has Iceland. You can click on Iceland to say you are vulnerable but you only get a email link if you are in shielding group.
@Pandoraslastchance could you say what county you live in. If you are local I could try to help.

MyDcAreMarvel · 11/04/2020 14:48

Also @Pandoraslastchance it can take over a week to here from supermarkets.

canigooutyet · 11/04/2020 14:55

Another Londoner here despite registering on the official site I cannot get a slot anywhere. Never have since the beginning.

Also clicking that stupid fucking banner on Icelands is beyond annoying. Every single time you have to log in to click yup I qualify, which also notifies you that you will be contacted. No slots.

Oh at least I do keep getting an email every time in response, sorry we know this is a pain in the arse, but we are also fucked for staff and getting produce cos of batshit people who keep trying to get them arrested for going to work Grin

Well obviously I am paraphrasing, but that's the general gist based on the response of the emails and forum comments from batshit people or about batshit people Grin.

iVampire · 11/04/2020 15:01

You can re-register on the government hub as in need of food support, but the only option when I was registering was for free food parcels. I don’t need free food and so I said ‘no’ (knowing I could change to ‘yes’ if I got very stuck)

I don’t know if there are further options now (such as asking if you want assistance in securing delivery slots). Because I persisted with emailing Ocado. It took a very worrying and stressful 9 days of emailing to get an answer at all - and then it was a not completely clear ‘stock’ answer, and so a further few days to get clarification.

I know they were also grappling with unprecedented circumstances, but it was a very difficult couple of weeks for me until it was sorted out.

But if you hang in there, it is likely to get resolved,

LovingBeingAMum555 - if you stay stuck in limbo, get on to Blood Cancer UK (formerly Bloodwise) as they (together with some other charities) are being quite active with supermarkets on this.

Stupidandmiserable · 11/04/2020 15:04

@canigooutyet and anyone else still waiting, ocado have just added a load of slots to their website for delivery tomorrow (ironically we don't actually need one right now). They're for everyone bit just the vulnerable bit if you get in quick you might get one..

alloutoffucks · 11/04/2020 15:05

@faithinallisee People only get a text if their GP has their mobile phone number. Some people will only have got a letter.

ellabella18 · 11/04/2020 15:06

Once you've been recognised as vulnerable via the government website the supermarkets will contact you.

QuaverQueen · 11/04/2020 15:48

Once you've been recognised as vulnerable via the government website the supermarkets will contact you

Not in DH’s case
