The curious case of quorn mince and covid 19

I literally haven't seen any for sale in any shop since all this started, even before the 12 week shutdown. Did the nation really panic buy quorn mince? Why isn't there any for sale?

They've been a couple of threads about this. Apparently, Veganary at the start of the year led to a national shortage of Quorn.

There was a massive shortage at the beginning of all this. I wondered if they shipped ingredients in from China and there were supply issues

I've got a packet in the freezer that ANYONE can have! Can't stand the stuff.

I eat loads of quorn, but haven’t seen it available for months. Six or more. I think it’s out of fashion now.

I've been wondering about this too - we haven't been able to get quorn mince for ages! Good to have an explanation, as I did think it was an odd thing for people to panic buy.

Isn't it more about Quorn switching from basic ingredients like Quorn mince to higher profit processed ready to eat products like vegan pasties because that's what demand is highest for, especially amongst performance nouveau vegans?

I saw a bloke loading up his trolley with Quorn mince and meatballs last week in Lidl. They had a ration on bog roll and kitchen roll but let him buy all the Quorn.

It was obvious he didn't normally shop there.

Although we do have a bag of normal Quorn mince in the freezer and I'm sure it was bought in January or February this year but it could have come from any supermarket or freezer shop type place like Iceland or heron as I'm a complete shopping tart.

i noticed when people were sharing what arrived in their Morrison’s box the vegetarian on had both quorn mince and quorn pieces. But I haven’t seen any either frozen or in the chilled section for about four weeks. Tesco had lots up until then.

I'm really sad that Aldi no longer seem to do their Plant Menu vegan sausages, they were easily the nicest vegan sausages I've ever had.

If you can get it, Tesco soya mince is nice, much nicer than Quorn.

Quorn mince is truly evil. Dried soya mince is where it's at. However, this has quadrupled in price since the beginning of the corona virus crisis.

This is obviously all a big conspiracy run by the beef mince marketing board.

It's now in the fresh section and sold like the rectangle shaped normal mince . Not sure why though.

Weirdly the only Quorn product we've been able to get our hands on is the mince! No Quorn 'chicken' to be seen. I'm running out of recipes now....

I haven’t been able to find it for a while either. Hope they don’t bring it back in vegan format. I really don’t like their vegan quorn chunks.

They had loads of quorn products, including mince, in my local Morrisons today.

I bought Quorn mince from Ocado two weeks ago.

My crispy nuggets were unavailable for delivery today though, with no substitution

I found some today at Lidl!

I'm a part-time private investigator. It was obvious he was lost. He had ... the signs.

I can’t get ANYTHING vegan in my local Tesco. Oat milk, mince, meatballs, sausages and even tinned jackfruit have all been out of stock for two weeks. It’s driving me mad because I’m sure it’s driven by people who don’t usually eat it but who want to have it ‘just in case’.
