We have followed the rules. Not been out etc.

However I've just realised....

I touch any Post / Letters / Parcels /Shopping / Food etc. (Basically everything that comes into the home) and I've not been washing / wiping it down or washing my hands afterwards.

I've even signed for a couple of bits just this week with the hand held computer and pen thing.

I feel like such an idiot!!!

"I am confused about the sign-for thing.
As far as I know, Royal Mail/The Post Office, and all delivery companies stopped it about 2 weeks back.*

Yeah. I don't think anyone told my local driver. Saw him delivering and handing over packages hand to hand again. Didn't see if they signed though

louise5754 · 01/04/2020 14:19

The post man leaves them on the drive and knocks.

As of last Monday Hermes were still coming to the door asking for a signature.

DPD have been taking photos of the package on our drive.

DHL brought our new fridge freezer this morning. They said the could not bring it into the house but one guy did help my husband get it up the steps.

All the above are items we needed. Im waiting on Argos delivering DD birthday presents I won't be ordering anything until this is over.

I feel bad for them having to deliver yet they could be out of s job if not so it's catch 22.

We were sitting on our (large) front lawn.
Postie had a small parcel for us.
He threw it to me. I did ask him to, knowing what was inside!

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 14:27

I really would not worry as I said in another post we all go to supermarkets that have air con and fridges that blow air about so doesn't matter how far we are from each other it is being blown about the areas we are in.

Nousernameforme · 01/04/2020 14:29

One person took a picture with me holding my parcel. Then he said don't worry i didn't get your face in it. Cheeky fucker

Parcels and post have been opened the outside bit binned and then hands washed new stuff coming in has been wiped down or sprayed

cardibach · 01/04/2020 14:31

No real need to worry OP. Look at this

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 14:35

ok just takes me to a main page no article, but try this one
www.spectator.co.uk/article/how-to-understand-and-report-figures-for-covid-19-deaths-

SharonasCorona · 01/04/2020 14:37

I've sighed for 2 Hermes parcels in the last two weeks. It did worry me as god knows where she has been

How nasty. She's doing her JOB. From which YOU are benefitting, OP.

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 14:38

and although I am in a very high risk group reading this report from a top pathologist is why I am not freaking out.

Loooobyloo · 01/04/2020 14:41

I've been delivering for hermes for the past two weeks. We out on the doorstep and move right away, we dont know where you've all been do we Wink

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 14:42

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 01/04/2020 14:42

I do wash my hands a lot though

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 14:45

@P1nkHeartLovesCake I am with you all the way

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 14:47

@cardibach did you read Dr John Lee's report?

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 14:47

just off to make a cuppa want one @Loooobyloo?

SignGrudgeBluebook · 01/04/2020 14:56

You do need to take precautions though as this is a weak point. I wear gloves to open the mail and put the envelopes etc in the compost or paper recycling. I then wash my gloves and hang them up and wash my hands.

It's accepted that C-19 virus lives on paper, card etc. Fomites are recognised as being a significant method of transmission of viruses.

Posters minimising this and not doing something about this risk are not doing their best minimise the chance of contamination.

If we all picked up our game to the highest we can as individuals it would really make a difference.

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 15:02

hey @cardibach got your post up and that is so reassuring for most people shame our papers etc over here don't give people such relevant information.if they did a lot of people would be a lot less aggressive and nasty.

maggieS22 · 01/04/2020 15:05

Just been to my local M&S. Appalled at lack of precautions. No-one restricting numbers into shop (consequently shop very over crowded) , no-one cleaning handles of baskets, no screens for staff. If sticking tape on the floor near checkouts is all they think is needed to keep people safe they need to rethink. M&S should be setting standards. I for one will avoid shopping there again. I value my health too much.

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 15:05

@SignGrudgeBluebook Hi you really need to read this article I think it will make you feel a lot better @cardibach sent link to us on here.
www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/03/26/dont-panic-about-shopping-getting-delivery-or-accepting-packages/

cardibach · 01/04/2020 15:08

Yes, that’s the one I posted - not sure why the link didn’t work for some of you.

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 15:08

@maggieS22 if i had know that M&S were taking the sensible approach I would have gone there to shop instead, if you read up in supermarkets they use air con and fridges that blow cool air about so those two things are blowing any virus that is in the air about so really doesn't matter how far you are from someone it is in the air if at all I hasten to add

rc22 · 01/04/2020 15:09

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm focusing on the government advice and doing hand washing and doing my best not to touch my face.

peterlon1 · 01/04/2020 15:10

@cardibach for some reason is just takes you to the home page then you have to say yes to one of the options, but if you highlight the link in the browser search bar and copy that you get all that i pasted in. not saying you didn't of course.

Jaxhog · 01/04/2020 15:11

It sounds like Hermes are not giving good advice to their people.

I've always thought that they were advised to just leave on the nearest wall on your property, even before Covid-19. Or is that just us?

Tootletum · 01/04/2020 15:16

I wouldn't stress. It's about reducing risk not removing it. The delivery driver obviously also has far less contact now so is less likely to carry the virus and washing hands is more effective than washing everything else anyway.
