Give someone a high vis and an ID badge and suddenly you’ve got a mini village dictator on your hands.

I give you the parish council. Headed by a man who has taken it upon himself to “patrol” the village looking for rule breakers. He likes to talk about his patrol a lot on FB. Two day’s ago they were given ID badges by the POLICE so people would know they were from the village response team when they dropped food parcels.

He mentioned the ID badges 57372772 times (with pics) and then refused them to anyone who wasn’t “frontline village response”. His patrol involves questioning why people are out of their houses. And watching for suspicious people. And generally walking around in a high vis.

Little fucking goblin (sorry I’ve had a hard day)

I wish the jokes on here were funnier though

Well, I've enjoyed them Grin

Shitsgettingcrazy · 01/04/2020 14:30

I could say exactly the same thing to you.

I am not going onto to other peoples threads and telling them they are unfunny etc. If I find a thread isnt for me, I leave it.

Or do you mean what am I getting out of it?
Out of what? Telling your behaviour is pretty shit and you keep doing the same thing over and over? Hopefully get you to think about the way you are acting, maybe get you be slightly more decent person.

SwerfandTurf · 01/04/2020 14:35

Yes. I’m not keen on comparing things to Nazi Germany as a general rule, but Nazism came about because of decades of social conditioning and propaganda that exploited traditional fear of the Other (Jews having long been scapegoated and forcibly othered from mainstream society via being both literally and metaphorically ghettoised).

Germany’s harsh punishment at the end of WWI (Treaty of Versailles) resulted in a struggling starving country, and in turn this increased tribalism (tribalism is inherently linked to competition over resources). That tribalism was weaponised into intense insular nationalism and demonisation of said Other, which allowed the NSDAP to flourish.

The causes and factors behind the rise of the a Third Reich are so much more complex than fear or force.

Of course it’s not on the same scale, but we’re seeing the same resource-limited tribalism, insularity, and othering and scapegoating of those othered that historically have presaged worse social divides.

Some people need to realise that it's not just coronavirus lives that matter.

PS
Have you have considered volunteering to join your local village patrol. You sound like you might be good at that sort of thing.

FredWinnie · 01/04/2020 15:13

This thread was excellent this morning, a classic observation of petty mindedness and the need for power.
The need to derail it with faux outrage, misinterpretation and ridiculous arguments is so fucking boring

Amen.

Ditto amen

VivaLeBeaver · 01/04/2020 15:13

Someone in our village was shouted at for getting in his car to go to work......in a factory making ventilator parts. Was accused of killing people by going to work.

Yes, because I am the one roaming from thread to thread, telling people they arent funny and trying to stop them trying to have a bit of laugh. Thats the type of person that should be joining up.

Oh, nope. It's not me who is doing that.

P1nkHeartLovesCake · 01/04/2020 15:17

So now we can’t have a laugh thread about Barry with his completely unnecessary clipboard...God some of you need to chill out of this lockdown is going to be very long for you indeed

MsTSwift · 01/04/2020 15:28

The Nazi regime started small. Lots of average people going along with the regime. Likewise the Stasi read Stasiland very good book. Large proportion of the population were dobbing in neighbours to the regime. The analogy is appropriate. Read your history.

Windyatthebeach · 01/04/2020 15:32

I vote we bring back Olaf in his high viz...

Freshairimportanttoo · 01/04/2020 15:40

Quattro to the earlier quoted quote.

People don't have to engage with any poster esp if it's not the spirit of the thread.

This gave me a laugh last night which is vital to my mental health, and rare at this dark scary time.

It's fun and light hearted.

There are millions of dark threads, anyone feeling heavy should populate them.. It's rude and disrespectful to the op to crash into posts like this

SwerfandTurf · 01/04/2020 15:43

You’re right, and I apologise for my part in bringing down the thread. Sometimes I forgot what thread I’m on.

I really enjoy these lighthearted threads, thank you
Op for starting it.

AnnieP1 · 01/04/2020 15:48

Wow had to wait for page 7 before Flax turned up on this thread.

Wonderful post VanillaGodzilla agree wholeheartedly and so great to see so many amusing posts on this thread.

Just like to point people again to the Government regulations published on 26th March which state on reasons for leaving the house:

'exercise, alone or with a member of your household'

Absolutely no mention of how many times or for how long.

Hunsnetters and police making up their own rules.

LaMarschallin · 01/04/2020 15:52

I really enjoy these lighthearted threads, thank you Op for starting it.

Absolutely.

Still, let's hope now we've had the flounce, then the post-flounce PS, there are no more Parthian arrows left.

Unless the PP has beetled off to MNHQ to ask for a virtual high-viz tabard and lanyard.

adiposegirl2 · 01/04/2020 15:58

tibola
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The most light hearted Coronavirus thread by far.
I have tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.
Thanks!

lyralalala · 01/04/2020 15:59

My Barry, hi viz and all, is currently fuming as his wife had gone for a second walk.

Apparently she’s showing him up! even though she’s a PITA 99% of the time i have to admit to enjoying the look of not caring on her face as she went out (I’m supervising kids in the garden, not curtain twitching)

bluerad · 01/04/2020 16:07

In our village we have someone counting how many children and how many over 70s he can see from his window to 'prove' who is breaking the law the most. At the moment the over 70s are in the lead but the hoodie squad don't usually turn up until 4.30.

Freshairimportanttoo · 01/04/2020 16:13

Already has the virtual high viz and tabard 😂😂

Some hilarious stories on here.

What happened I wonder to the thread weeks ago about their village covid response team asking villagers if they had skills such as fishing, hunting, baking, sewing etc. Grin.. I wonder how that lot are getting on

GoldenOmber · 01/04/2020 16:22

Probably sewing Barry a new high-vis tabard out of two roadkill hedgehogs and the flayed skin of someone who went out for a 65-minute walk.

Freshairimportanttoo · 01/04/2020 16:23

😂😂😂

bluerad · 01/04/2020 16:24

Now someone has posted that the over 70s may suffer from memory loss and don't remember that they have been out before. They suggest phoning the police so that a welfare check could be made on anyone out under 70. Give me strength.
