Ok please don’t flame me for sounding selfish but it’s my OHs 60th in September. We have booked an Airbnb for a month in Spain. It’s been planned for a long time so that family and friends. can come out and stay for a few days/ week, whatever they can . We were so excited about it with us both retiring in the near future. What’s the chances do you think of us still being able to go?

I have a long haul dream holiday booked in August. It's costing around £10k and we got a really good deal on the price. We have paid the deposit and the rest is due in May. At the moment, I'm still desperately (perhaps somewhat hopelessly!) praying we can still go - so when it comes to may, should we pay the rest and would we get this back from insurance if the holiday is cancelled? Or would we only be entitled to the money paid before this became a global pandemic?

I can't really afford to lose the best part of £10k, but equally if we are able to travel in August, I got a bucket list holiday at a good price, and it would be tricky to re-book for the same price so I would rather pay and claim the money back if we couldn't go - but I can only do that if we will definitely be covered. Does anyone have any idea of the best thing to do? I haven't called my travel agent or insurance yet as I presumed they were run off their feet helping people who were meant to be travelling in the very near future. I will of course call both nearer to the time, but what would everyone else do in my situation?

mumwon · 29/03/2020 21:07

3 of us for Lake Como - sadly I don't think its likely - we were told to wait for just before full money is due as its likely that information on whether travel will or wont be allowed in Italy

CheddarCheesy · 29/03/2020 21:11

Rhodes in early July... Keeping my fingers firmly crossed that we can still go.

KaptenKrusty · 29/03/2020 21:11

Wait and see! I’ve just had Japan cancelled on me (meant to go next week) we plan to rebook it as soon as it’s possible to go again - I’ve got September / October in mind but will have to wait and see now!

Also have New York booked for December - but again il have to just take it as it comes!

Reckon as people said before me A 50/50 don’t make a decision yet just wait it out! Ages away yet

catscatscatseverywhere · 29/03/2020 21:13

I was supposed to get married on September 4th and most likely I won’t.

Hotpinkangel19 · 29/03/2020 21:35

July holidays aren't going to happen. I wouldn't get excited about August either.

Ginsmything · 29/03/2020 21:39

It’s sad that so many family events and celebrations are having to be cancelled or rearranged. My DBS wedding which should have been next weekend, and my mums 90th birthday party this weekend. It’s like all the fun has been sucked out of our lives. We are trying to make the best of the situation but it’s hard. My DF passed away in December so my mums really struggling being on her own 😔

I was initially very upset about all my plans being cancelled - this was supposed to me my big fun filled year pre kids - 2 big holidays and Glastonbury - devastated time have it all taken away! But we decided to just move on with our lives and start ttc now instead of waiting until the summer and we will just go to Glastonbury next year and rebook the trips for when we can! Nothing can be done now and being annoyed about it just doesn’t help the situation - we are all in the same boat unfortunately - the whole world!!

Hope you can come to terms with it all and just make some new plans and rebook of needed!
This won’t be forever so your plans are just on hold x

KaptenKrusty · 29/03/2020 21:49

Mostly I miss my parents actually - they live in Ireland and I was supposed to be there with them this weekend - now I don’t know when il see them again! It’s put things into perspective tbh - I’d ditch any amount of holidays for a weekend with them at this stage

Snowpatrolling · 29/03/2020 21:59

2 night p&o cruise beginning of may (to replace the thomas cook holiday I lost!)
And billie Eilish concert end of July.
I don’t care about the cruise, but I care about the concert, it was my daughter Xmas present. :(

Namechangervaver · 29/03/2020 22:00

Slim to none.

RainRainGoAway2020 · 29/03/2020 22:08

We were supposed to go away May half term. EasyJet have offered to let us change the flights but since we have no idea when we will be allowed to travel again or when schools will reopen it’s impossible. I’m hoping once the travel restriction is inevitably extended they offer a refund?!

Northernsoullover · 29/03/2020 22:24

Nerja in July. I hope to get there. I'll accept whatever happens. I don't have a lot of choice. Health is the most important thing. I actually managed to save 700 euros on a travel card in advance too Sad

EffOrf · 29/03/2020 22:30

UK may be OK but anywhere abroad I doubt it

Ginsmything · 29/03/2020 22:31

Thanks for your replies. Yes I guess it’s very unlikely but I hope that we don’t lose all our money. It’s a considerable amount that we were prepared to take the hit so that friends could still come out but only have to pay for their flights. I know there’s bigger things to deal with right now but I’m sad 😞

Wedding and honeymoon to kefalonia end of june/first week of July. Weve accepted that it wont be going ahead but waiting for BA to cancel the holiday before we do so we can rebook or get a refund

Writersblock2 · 29/03/2020 23:08

Florida at the end of Sep. Cautiously optimistic.

Hairbrush123 · 29/03/2020 23:13

I have a HUGE trip to Brazil in mid July. I have paid for the flights using my air miles which is already refundable (minus £30 admin fee) however Hilton haven't charged my credit card for the stay on the non refundable rooms yet so maybe they won't? I will have to contact them closer to the time. I could go in November but what if it isn't over then? I know there are far more pressing concerns during this time but I am so looking forward to it! I am just taking it a day at a time now.

FrangipaniBlue · 30/03/2020 10:44

We're supposed to be going to Florida in October. Been saving for over 2 years.

I bought insurance last year but I checked when all this kicked off and they said they wouldn't cover Coronavirus. So I bought a new policy with a company advertising that they WOULD. As soon as the US stopped flights from Europe the company emailed me cancelling my policy.

So I currently have a £12k holiday, no idea whether we will be able to go and currently, no insurance.

I'm trying not to think about it or I'll weep.

SeaViewBliss · 30/03/2020 10:54

We're due to go to Florida in October too and have resigned ourselves that we won't be going.

We don't have to pay the balance until end of August so I'm hoping they will agree to holding our deposit until we rebook.

JimmyPanda · 30/03/2020 10:56

Honeymoon at the end of August to the Caribbean after getting married last year and I'm assuming that won't go ahead Sad

cologne4711 · 30/03/2020 10:57

I had a holiday in Scotland booked for May half term which we've moved to early September. As it's not overseas, and we can drive there, we may have better chances than those of you planning to fly abroad, but we'll see.

MutatedCat · 30/03/2020 11:02

I would be wary of paying any balances off on holidays, especially to Tui. They are not refunding as to do so would cause them to go bust so they are holding onto my and a lot of other people's money! I have been waiting ages for my refund and they are not answering phone calls.
