Ok please don’t flame me for sounding selfish but it’s my OHs 60th in September. We have booked an Airbnb for a month in Spain. It’s been planned for a long time so that family and friends. can come out and stay for a few days/ week, whatever they can . We were so excited about it with us both retiring in the near future. What’s the chances do you think of us still being able to go?

We have had our holiday next week cancelled and I don’t think we will be going on a. Holiday booked to Spain on September. However I’m really hoping we will be able to go on a special holiday we have booked at the end of October

Waxonwaxoff0 · 30/03/2020 11:40

I'm booked for July. Don't think I'll be going.

I'm happy for Tui to hang onto my money and I will re book for next year, I've already done that with my Butlins holiday that we were supposed to go on in the Easter hols.

dottiedodah · 30/03/2020 11:45

I also have a big birthday in September .We were going to US to see our friends .However have resigned myself to the fact it probably aint gonna happen and am looking to next May/June time .As my dear departed DM used to say "life is full of disappointments!" I am hoping to have a big belated birthday bash when there .My Friends DD turned 18 lat week ,and just had Ma, Pa, LS ,and the cat for company!

dottiedodah · 30/03/2020 11:47

GinsMyThing Sorry to hear about your Dad ,Thoughts to you and DM .take care xx

I'd be surprised if the UK is back to normal by then, let alone other countries and I expect foreign travel to be severely curtailed for the rest of the year, perhaps longer. Until we have an effective vaccine, we're going to have some forms of limitations of "normal" life. We're going to have many months of gradual relation of restrictions and I suspect going abroad for holidays will be one of the last things to be allowed again.

MrsSpenserGregson · 30/03/2020 11:50

@MutatedCat For exactly that reason, I have literally just cancelled our Tui holiday that we'd booked for July. We still had half the balance to pay, and although we won't get back the money we've already paid, at least we won't be losing the rest. I have no faith at all the Tui will outride this crisis, so I definitely don't want to switch to a different holiday for 2021 and risk losing all the money.

Tdaadfb100 · 30/03/2020 11:51

Same here. 50th in Bali with friends from Australia. Maybe same time next year?

carrie74 · 30/03/2020 12:04

Oh I'm much more optimistic than many here!! Perhaps deluded.

DD is supposed to be in Spain at mo, obvs cancelled. Due to be in Florida next Monday, flights still not been cancelled (obvs can't travel, but until American Airlines cancel, no refund). Flights to Milan in May not yet cancelled.

Am hoping our August holiday to France isn't cancelled too [weep]. And yesterday I booked cheap flights to Spain for Feb half term (if we have to sacrifice those, we won't lose too much money in the grand scheme of things).

Hate to think of not being able to travel for the long term, I don't see how any of these companies could survive a lockdown of 6 months, let alone 1 year plus.

MutatedCat · 30/03/2020 12:18

One article I read said that most holiday companies will be bankrupt by May unless the Gov bails them out, I cannot see that happening with all they are having to pay out to peoples wages

FrangipaniBlue · 30/03/2020 12:30

@SeaViewBliss I'm booked with Virgin and they've said that if it cannot go ahead we can move to next year, but from what I've read online they've been hiking their prices so people are having thousands extra to pay!

Kraejka · 30/03/2020 12:37

I've got a holiday booked for end of June. I don't think it's going to happen but I am hanging on a bit for the airline to cancel the flights as it's non-refundable. Long haul too and cost 800 quid. They are letting people change their booking but that's not something I can do for personal reasons. This was the last chance I have for a couple of years at least.
The other parts of the holiday can all be cancelled at short notice and the money will be refunded.

Yeah, it's shit but my health and the health of others is much more important.

I think by the summer that some countries may be an position where people can go on holiday in their own country but I very much doubt it will be possible to holiday in another country.

Irial · 30/03/2020 12:40

California late july.... been saving for about 4 years.....

Glitterbaby17 · 30/03/2020 13:52

We are in Aus and my Mum was coming out from the U.K. to visit when our baby is due in July. Am 99% sure that won’t be happening. We were coming to the U.K. so family could meet the baby in Sept/Oct, which I think is unlikely but not impossible. Gutted as family are so important and my comfort being here has always been that I’d be able to get home in 24 hours but suspect international travel will be hard for 6-12 months 😢

Toothsil · 30/03/2020 14:03

We have a UK holiday booked for August. I'm cautiously hopeful....

MaryShelley1818 · 30/03/2020 14:09

We have a trip to Portugal booked for the last week in September. we also rearranged our trip to Barcelona to late October (should be there now). I'm very cautiously hopeful that they'll go ahead.

We have a trip to Holland at the end of May that I know we'll be cancelling 😔

timeforawine · 30/03/2020 14:10

My May holiday is undoubtedly getting cancelled, i am remaining positive for August, i have to be positive

namechangemania · 30/03/2020 14:16

Big family holiday booked in Asia for August.

Not gonna happen is it Sad

MutatedCat · 30/03/2020 15:44

We need the media to pick this up, the shocking way that Tui are treating their customers by holding onto their money and not issuing refunds, come on

MutatedCat · 30/03/2020 15:47

ooo surprise, looks like they have now removed their Facebook comments. Not answering the phones, no email addresses anywhere and now no Facebook Hmm

Irial · 30/03/2020 16:24

@MutatedCat you would probably be best starting your own thread?

tenterden · 30/03/2020 16:39

You will be able to take your UK holidays. Why not?

Because we don't know what restrictions will be in place at any time over the next 6/12/18 months.......

Interestingdrug72 · 30/03/2020 17:20

If you pay your balance to avoid losing deposits, be prepared to only get a credit note if cancelled. This is the holidays companies only cash flow for some time

KoalasandRabbit · 30/03/2020 17:33

We pulled out of Italy school trip after deposit pre full payment stage, meant we will highly likely lose deposit but the whole lot was at risk if we paid in full.

This is going to take a lot of hotels / airlines / travel companies under and insurers too unless there are bailouts but it's really hard to know what to do for the best. We have flights booked for August, £1k of which are non-refundable so can only leave, other £2k we can get refund and lose £720 now or wait and take our chances on a full refund. Company have £1.5 billion in cash which sounds a lot but if nothing is flying worldwide between now and then not sure they will be offering refunds by August and a credit note is only worthwhile if you can use it.

Stupidanduseless · 30/03/2020 19:02

I don’t think any holidays abroad or in the U.K. for well over two years.
I can’t see hotels etc being allowed to open, or holiday parks.
We were booked for a Uk holiday in May and one in July. Hadn’t booked one abroad - we were about to when this started. We can move the one in May or have a refund. We will have a refund because I’m doubtful that even in 12/18 months it’ll be any different.
There wont be much of the previous world left at the end of this.

BorrestGump · 30/03/2020 19:33

I don’t think any holidays abroad or in the U.K. for well over two years

There will be no hotels, resorts, restaurants or maintained parks etc to go to if that is the case and then economic catastrophe will take many lives.

No holidaying for that length of time would be as disastrous as letting a virus rampage through a population.
