Corona symptoms that are NOT fever and dry cough?

cornishdreams1 · 29/03/2020 17:40

I travelled to the Middle East in early February, when we came back both my dd and I came down with the same bug. We had the most god awful taste in our mouths, neither of could not taste anything at all, we both felt sick.
We had D&V for one day and one night, and stomach cramps for over a week. For two nights were not feverish, but sweating as you may do with normal D&V and my dh described us both as very rosy looking. I had a sore throat on and off and my glands are up for three weeks. My dd completely recovered and did so within the first week. My symptoms are persisting on and off but I feel better. The one thing I have had is very red eyes, not sore or infected but just really red raw. I used eye drops to alleviate it.

This morning I read in the Sunday papers that these are symptoms of Coronavirus in younger people. I am shocked. I had no idea at all, and have been carrying on as normal up until the lockdown. I could have infected numerous people, at no point until I read this article did I think this may be coronavirus, and if this is the case, there may be many many more people working and shopping/caring for the elderly/nursing as normal with some of these symptoms.

Have you heard anything about this?

This needs to be publicised as most people with stomach cramps or sore eyes would not consider CV.

I had red sore eyes a couple of weeks ago while I was still going into the office every day on packed commuter trains. I'd never felt anything like it. No cough or fever though. I'd dearly love to have the antibody test to see if I got off really really lightly!

bpirockin · 29/03/2020 19:17

I read somewhere that there was a possibility the virus entered via the eyes and that was why they grew sore. Had me concerned until I remembered that I've spent loads more time online than normal and hardly slept a wink for worrying in a good while. I regularly have migraines that result in D&V, and chest pressure from my bra top being on the tight side. Sometimes when I'm reading all the scary stuff I have to remind myself that I normally get a stinking cold at this time of year anyway, and to keep these things in perspective.

I saw what seemed to be a good and informative video that suggested people took a deep breath and held it for at least 10 seconds each morning - in a 'healthy' environment. If you cannot do that without coughing the suggestion was that your lungs are already impaired and it's time to get help. Many people are arriving at hospital already severely impaired, when recovery is far less likely.

Stay home, stay safe, and stay well folks.

I've only just recovered from about a week of what sounds very similar to what @WreckTangle95 described, I was only actually sick twice, several days apart, yet the rest of the time felt too nauseous to move and felt very weak and breathless if I did. Obviously I didn't think it was corona as I had no cough, in fact I was scared of catching that on top because I didn't know how my body would cope. It would really help if there was clearer information about symptoms out there.

crimsonlake · 29/03/2020 19:21

I'm the same, no way of telling if I had it or not.
Started off with headache, not the usual kind for a couple of days, exhausted, hot but no fever, weak jelly like limbs which turned to heaviness. No cough. I feel as if I have been in bed with the flu for 2 weeks without actually having the flu.
Several days later I have noticed myself coughing more than usual, but nothing I would normally pay attention to. This weekend I have had a very runny nose and sore eyes.

MrsPerfect12 · 29/03/2020 19:23

Vomiting in children is reported. Uk seems to be dismissing it. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Corona symptoms that are NOT fever and dry cough?
jasjas1973 · 29/03/2020 19:24

There is a theory that the UK had a wave of CV in January.

There are also 100s of viruses out there that give a multitude of symptoms that "could" be CV19 but are not.

Until there is a wide spread antibody test we won't know.

BooseysMom · 29/03/2020 19:24

I remember being knocked for six with the swine flu and lay out on a long seat at the doctors. I was hallucinating from the fever.
My DF was forced to drive me there by DM. It was appalling. I just hope it's nothing like this but it must be worse if so many are dying.

Isn't there 2 strains of Covid, a serious one and a mild one?

Bubblebu · 29/03/2020 19:25
  • persistent fluxuating temperature for weeks and weeks and weeks now
  • extreme fatigue to the extent I just want to be in bed all day every day
  • yes I had very itchy sore red eyes a couple of weeks ago less so now
  • no (or very minimal) cough
  • no chest pains (yet, lets hope it stays like that etc)
  • very achy muscles and bones
Roostersmum2 · 29/03/2020 19:25

The taste was very disturbing. I asked DH to get me some oral thrush gel from the chemist as I wondered whether it was that, but I didn't have the white coating that comes with oral thrush.

I was then concerned I had developed halitosis and couldn't understand why as I brush my teeth twice daily and floss after meals.

I was asking for advice on here about oral thrush and it was then that a handful of posters came on and said actually DH shouldn't go to the chemist for me because it sounds like CV19. He didn't go!

I stayed indoors incase it was but I guess I'll never know, unless they roll out the antibody test to the general public.

My timeline if of any interest.. hopefully I have it all in the right order as the days blurred in to one to be honest.

A week before any of this I had the most unusual throbbing in my legs that radiated up to my bum, and then..

Day 1 - weird sensation in chest, unusually breathless when walking uphill, sudden abdominal pain and mild diarreah in the evening. Some back pain.

Day 2 - severe exhaustion. Some stomach ache. Metallic taste in mouth. Some chills. Headache at night time. Stayed in bed all day.

Day 3 - felt ok in the morning so left my bed but felt crap again by noon. Zero appetite and had to force myself to have soup. Absolutely wiped out from as little as picking up kids toys. Stomach ache. Feel cold and have chills. Metallic taste in mouth still present non stop. Headache again. Loose bowels.

Day 4-6 Same as day 3. I spent most of the time in bed. I now had a phlegmy feeling in my throat and had the constant urge to clear it. Very occasional cough and not excessive or continuous at all.

Day 7 - mild sore throat developed. I felt a bit better so spent the day sat on the sofa but very weak. I was ravenous hungry and able to eat more at this point.

Day 8 - throat is still a bit sore, very fatigued. Sudden back pain on both sides of my upper back which hung around for a couple of hours and then went away.

Day 9 - felt alot better, was up and about in the flat, more energy and managed to get some stuff done. The metallic taste was becoming more mild and less overpowering.

Day 10 - I felt well enough to go outside so went for a short walk, I felt pretty much recovered by then. Still a mild weird taste but not so strong that I was focussing on it.

Day 11 - fine

Day 12 - sheer exhaustion is back with a vengeance however I am now on my period so that may be to blame for the fatigue at this point.

Its worth nothing that the highest my temp got was 36.7, while not high in itself it was a notable raise from my usual 35. Something

At no point did i have a high temp or excessive coughing.

My two very young children both had mild coughs but again were not continuous and nothing like we're told to look out for. My youngest had (and still has) very unpleasant poo, but no temp in either child.

Blobbyweeble · 29/03/2020 19:25

I’ve had stomach cramps, slightly loose bowels, then sneezing, dry cough, shortness of breath and complete exhaustion. No idea if it’s just a bug or the dreaded virus. I’m on about day 5.

Roostersmum2 · 29/03/2020 19:26

Oh and I forgot to include I had dry itchy eyes too. It felt like the onset of conjunctivitis but didn't develop into it. I had a bout of particularly dry eyes again last night but fine today

Allways123 · 29/03/2020 19:27

I've had similar symptoms to some of you.. During the 3rd week of January I thought I had flu. . It started with a sore throat then I developed a fever. A couple of days later I felt abit better but still abit tired and I started coughing and sneezing.. I've had flu before but the tiredness that comes with this type of flu is different.. It felt like an overwhelming type of tiredness where I had no energy whatsoever.. It was difficult to even take a wash and get dressed.. all I could do was lie down cos I didn't seem to have any energy to do anything else.

Allways123 · 29/03/2020 19:29

The difficulty is that my symptoms are typical of flu in general so unless we can all get tested ill never know

Thingsthatgo · 29/03/2020 19:30

Have you got the COVID 19 symptom tracker? All of these symptoms will be very interesting and important information for the university hospitals who are trying to track the spread and understand the symptoms better. Please get it on your phone and put in your symptoms every day.
Even if you don’t have symptoms you should still open it every day. It’s a really useful tool for the scientists who are tracking the virus.

SunshineCake · 29/03/2020 19:34

The tracker goes only so far. Most symptoms aren't on there and there is no option to add symptoms.

ChicChicChicChiclana · 29/03/2020 19:35

The antibody test is imperative so that everyone who has had covid19 and recovered can move on into caring roles, be that informally to loved ones and neighbours, or formally through the public volunteering roles.

I work 16 hours per week (from home in normal circs). I would love to get out into the community and help people with shopping etc, but how can I until I've been tested?

The tests are absolutely imperative!

Tomorrowsanewday · 29/03/2020 19:35

DH has been ill since returning from N Italy over a month ago.

Started with a sore throat, swollen glands, sore eyes and feeling feverish but no temperature.
Phoned 111 numerous times. Told him he didn’t fit the clinical criteria for testing.
After a week he phoned his GP with chest, stomach and back pain and he sent him to A&E.
He explained about being in Italy and he’d been isolating wfm.
Bloods, X-ray and ECG. All ok. Gave him antibiotics and PPIs
The Past week still got stomach pain, sore throat and night sweats. He gets a few days where he improves and then back to square one.
Over a month later and just don’t know where to turn for help.

Bubblebu · 29/03/2020 19:35

yes I also had no appetite at all (still don't) and bouts of nausea / digestion problems and ditto often it feels very hard to be motivated to have a shower / get dressed etc
my temperature has also not got very high so far as I know but I do seem to spend my days alternately turning on the heating because my feet feel so cold to next minute opening the window because I feel so hot..... this has been going on for weeks and weeks - maybe since the start of the year.
not pleasant at all.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 29/03/2020 19:37

Can anyone tell me what you did about signing off work with it then? If it lasts longer than a week (can self certify for a week) we have to have a doctors note, but you’re not allowed to go to the doctors with CV so what do you do?

Freddie28 · 29/03/2020 19:37

Don’t forget you are still likely to catch Flu or the common cold.
They will give you similar milder symptoms.
This was the first time I panicked about being ill, it started with a hacking cough for five days then suddenly changed to a chesty cough. From that point on I had no voice, could barely walk to the bathroom and the chest pain from the pneumonia was the scariest I have had. All I did was sleep, couldn’t stay awake if I tried. That started on the 14th February and I’m still not right. Never had problems before. There are so many conflicting symptoms better to assume you might have it and stay clear of others.

GreyGardens88 · 29/03/2020 19:37

I fell ill on Thursday with a horrendous continuous stomach pain, fever, nausea, tiredness, headache. But no vomiting or diarrhoea. Was breathless on Saturday after walking up a flight of stairs, had to sit down after which has never happened before. Now I have a slight cough but otherwise feel totally fine. It was an extremely weird illness, not like anything I've experienced before. I'm 31 now wondering if this could have been the virus

Rosebel · 29/03/2020 19:41

It is awful. My SIL father died last week and his, main symptom was stomach cramps, which he had for over a week before developing a cough and temperature.
Also my sister was told by 111 conjunctivitis can be a sign which my children got at the beginning of February but only my youngest (who is vulnerable)developed a cough. Luckily she seems fine now but I had no idea these were symptoms.

Iwannabeadored20 · 29/03/2020 19:43

Do we know if getting it makes you immune to getting it again or passing it on, yet?

Justaboy · 29/03/2020 19:50

Seeing that a lot of the MN crew have had odd things its a bloody wonder if this was applied to the UK population that around half have had something like CV! Of coursde the Antibodiy test will confirm when they get here!

ISTR we were debating this matter around a month or so ago, was it /might it/ have been the CV lurgy?

I had to take a anti-eleplitic drug some years ago and the vile taste of that:( still remember it, you couldnt get rid of the damm thing! its a very intresting symptom tho!

ilovemyrednosedaymug · 29/03/2020 19:52

Both my mum and myself had sore eyes a few weeks ago, along with stomach pain. Just put it down to a bug.

I had flu last year and it was horrendous and there are so many bugs around at this time of year.

I’ve had a sore throat for three weeks now that won’t go away but no other symptoms.
