Not seen this reported elsewhere?

Oh, FFS. Really? Christ, Poundland Donald Trump.

Laniakea · 28/03/2020 23:07

we haven't had an post since Tuesday - I imagine if BoJo wants to write me me I'll get it sometime in May Hmm

Escapeistheonlyoption · 28/03/2020 23:09

We are already on daily texts
I think our post has stopped.

DowntownAbby · 28/03/2020 23:12

@Quarantino

Bloody hell, what sort of person needs a letter from Boris to finally convince them to follow the rules?

Well, the majority of people in this thread for a start: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/coronavirus/3864497-Daughter-24-wants-to-come-home

MrsFogi · 28/03/2020 23:13

What a waste of time and money

OldLace · 28/03/2020 23:13

Huge waste of money.
Also means posties have to deliver to more houses, thus potentially increasing the chances of spreading the infection.
Stupid idea.

doofusmoof · 28/03/2020 23:16

Waste of time & money but I think 1.3m households don't own a TV so I guess they need to reach them. Plenty of people will own a TV & not watch the news. Plenty will watch the news & not take it seriously.

PerkingFaintly · 28/03/2020 23:18

What on earth...?

At the risk of spreading fake news, I'm sure I remember seeing that at the outbreak of WWII, George VI planned to do the same.

Then he realised that instead, in his modern era, the monarch could address the entire nation more cheaply and directly thanks to a revolutionary piece of technology: the radio.

Hence the now-famous speech. And no letter.

ineedaholidaynow · 28/03/2020 23:19

One of my DM's neighbours in her block of retirement flats doesn't watch the news. She queried why most of the shops were shut. Many of them are complaining that they didn't have these sort of restrictions in the war. They don't get we are fighting a different enemy. Maybe a 'personal' letter from Boris might actually make them take note.

MysteriesOfTheOrganism · 28/03/2020 23:20

Ooh, wonderful! I really can't wait - running low on toilet paper.

Quarantimespringclean · 28/03/2020 23:20

If Boris told me the sky was blue I wouldn’t believe him. I assume that every word that comes out of his mouth is a self serving lie. Any ‘letter’ that comes from him will be instantly utilised as kindling.

DS has a mate who is a very junior doctor and working his balls off right now. I will take my advice from him, not that wanker in No. 10.

Eckhart · 28/03/2020 23:23

Are Royal Mail getting paid for this enormous job? Is Boris shoring them up?

www.theguardian.com/business/2020/mar/27/royal-mail-may-reduce-postal-services-as-more-staff-take-sick-leave-coronavirus

Mummyshark2018 · 28/03/2020 23:24

Waste of money, peoples time and putting people at risk by working when it's not essential. Does he think that people are going to take more notice of a generic letter over listening to him at a press conference. I'm not opening any letters that come through my door!

doofusmoof · 28/03/2020 23:30

I think sometimes people forget how other people live. I think I read that one of Boris's conferences drew an audience of 10m which is quite low imo. Apparently 1 in 10 households don't have access to the internet.

Jaxhog · 28/03/2020 23:31

How pointless, why not just do a tv broadcast?!

He has!

I think it's a shame that this is necessary, but it seems there are still some people out who still haven't got the message.

Pigsnduvets · 28/03/2020 23:37

This is silly! I’m returning to sender.

Why does Boris suddenly feel the need to parent everyone in the sodding country?

Is this his weird man way of “nesting” as he’s becoming a new Dad again? Grin

What a plonker. Although if it works for the older people then great - FWIW in my local City and nearby towns the roads are empty and people are obeying the rules.

Parks, shops, beaches, high streets are all empty.

The only place that’s busy is the bank because all the old people are withdrawing cash Confused

StrugglingThrough2 · 28/03/2020 23:39

I think the post office will struggle to deliver in a timely manner. Dh is a postie and out of 60 postmen/women they have less than half in.

Bluebelle32 · 28/03/2020 23:48

@donquixotedelamancha Grin

You and some others have given me a genuine laugh that I’ve needed today.

rc22 · 28/03/2020 23:48

Just post it on the gov.uk website or whatever it is and anyone who wants to read it can. I’m the media will all tell us what it says anyway. In fact, they’ll probably tell us before it’s even been posted.

PerpetualCircle · 28/03/2020 23:51

Weirdly my 78 year old mother fancies Boris, but she is still gallivanting around her village to shop/gossip and is pissed that the church is closed.
If she gets a letter from him, she might start behaving herself!

NoProblem123 · 28/03/2020 23:52

He needs a bill board outside my local
Shops telling my mother to get herself home.

Nothing I say makes any difference and nether will his letter.

I’m bossy, the media is scaremongering and ‘I shouldn’t believe everything I hear’ Confused

TeaLibrary · 28/03/2020 23:57

We haven't had any post since last monday. Dont think our local posties are coping well with what must undoubtedly be a lot of staff absence

PerpetualCircle · 28/03/2020 23:58

I suspect that nothing but a personal visit would persuade my mother[Blush

Fluffycloudland77 · 28/03/2020 23:59

Well after seeing the attitudes on here I hope he’s writing it in crayon and drawing pictures to illustrate what a lockdown actually looks like.

TonytheDog · 29/03/2020 00:01

My DD heard this and took it literally. She said "wouldn't it be easier to write one letter and then copy it?". She's expecting her hand written letter from Boris this week sometime. I might ask #10 if they'd like a hand with the letters, DD has very neat writing.
