The rise in the hero complex

There has been a certain rise in people claiming they are or thinking they are heroes. "We are saving lives".

That basically involves an avid desire to report anyone that dares to leave the house, police everyone else, dismiss the worries and concerns of others, ridiculing, attacking, bullying and emotionally blackmailing anyone who struggles, some kind of irrational fear/hate of children and gleeful virtue signaling about how much better they are at staying home. Abusing key workers that in their eyes are not doing their job,for doing their job, following guidelines(made up or official) ,not following guidelines,in the wrong clothes etc.

There are people who are seriously struggling right now, emotionally, financially, mentally, physically etc. People that are becoming more and more vulnerable as more restrictions and public policing come in. People that have killed themselves due to the situation we are in.

They are not heroes, they are not saving lives.

Poor cat he'll probably bugger off if that's the welcome he gets.

On a serious note, my tescos anti bac spray says Do Not allow pets to lick or walk on treated surfaces until dry so maybe advise your friend.

Jourdain11 · 04/04/2020 00:30

Good thought! Thank you...

Mind you, I know their cat. It is a right attention seeker and winds itself round every passer by's legs. It could actually be a super spreader...

SmileyClare · 04/04/2020 00:30

I prefer the non contact letter box approach. Dear Postman, I have propped my flaps open for you x

SmileyClare · 04/04/2020 00:38

It might more hygenic if she shaved her cat (sorry not a euphemism). Or just stopped stroking it until it had cleaned itself (again not a euphemism).
Is it me or has this thread taken a strange turn? Grin

PrincessConsueIaBananaHammock · 04/04/2020 00:41

It's you.. but that's because the thread took a strange turn ages ago.Grin

I had to go back to the first page here and reread it! It’s should be renamed cats, flaps and the clap

Jourdain11 · 04/04/2020 00:44

Another random comment... but a lot of people have been saying this is so tough on the homeless etc. And I was thinking this myself a few weeks back, as I went along the street, thinking the drop in foot traffic must be hitting them hard.

Then I saw a homeless guy, surrounded by industrial packs of loo roll, shouting, "Pound a roll! Pound a roll!"

Thepigeonsarecoming · 04/04/2020 01:40

Have you read the “coronavirus rememberance day” thread??? 😱

Knowhowufeel2 · 04/04/2020 04:13

I see your clapping and raise you this.... seen on my FB yesterday and someone (who'd probably fit in quite well on this thread) has started a thread about it.😂😂

Thepigeonsarecoming · 04/04/2020 04:20

I’ve posted on that thread @know 😂

isabellerossignol · 04/04/2020 04:56

Dance on your doorstep?

Good grief. I have lovely neighbours up and down the street. But I swear, if I catch any of them doing this, I'll never look at them in the same way again. I'll judge. Harshly!

FrangipaniBlue · 04/04/2020 05:43

Can I dance on my doorstep with loud music blaring at 11am on Sunday? I'm thinking death metal, you know, as a protest to both those idiotic ideas?

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 07:36

Morning!

@Jourdain11 can you friend not get a little back pack and carry it's own anti santiser and a little sign asking people to use it if they want to stroke it? Grin

Confused about the doorstep stuff. My neighbours are ok, not people i am desperate to spend time with. Why do people keep coming up with stuff to see their neighbours more.

99% of these people wont have bothered with their neighbours before. And wont bother afterwards.

And people dont seem to mind people all coming out for that, but if you have a chat with your neighbour over the fence (2 meters away) people loose their minds.

What was the corona remeberence day thread? It's been deleted now Sad

Thepigeonsarecoming · 04/04/2020 07:51

@shits it was linked to a Facebook group. On Sunday 12th April at 11am everyone was to stand outside for a (I can’t remember how many) minute silence to remember the dead. It was pointed out maybe it’s best to wait for remembrance stuff until this is actually over. Didn’t see one post in favour although there is a whole Facebook group!

ilovecherries · 04/04/2020 08:18

How did this thread get to 26 pages before I found it? Read it at 3am after another bout of insomnia, and it’s the first thing that’s made me feel better for weeks. While I am actually taking the lockdown very seriously, I was getting so upset that my online food delivery was singlehandedly starving someone’s grandma, especially as that order contained an Easter egg, and that my walk on the beach at 7am was bringing the NHS to its knees. And that was before I even considered the fact that I had new knickers and a pair of harems delivered from M&S.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 08:41

@Thepigeonsarecoming what the fuck? Remeberence day while people are still getting sick and dying?

And on chocolate Easter sunday?

Why is everything revolving around standing outside. Do people go outside on remeberence sunday? Or for the silence for grenfell?

Dont we usually just all stop what we are doing, where we are?

I wonder how many of the 'oh my god......dont use you own garden.....if you do you are a murderer' take part in this sort of thing. I bet it's a lot. It enhances their hero status.

By the end of it we will be spending more time on our doorsteps than inside.

I have now seen

Clap for the NHS/key workers
Clap for kids
Clap for teachers
Doorstep, shine a torch in the sky for remeberence
Doorstep silence for remeberence
Doorstep dancing

I really dont like a full social calendar at the best of times. Why would I want it now? Grin

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 08:45

@ilovecherries join the dark side!

We have a limited supply of Spanish soldiers, though some are defective and have the clap. Please please click that one.

There is cats and dogs, hair dye, hot cross buns, gin, rum, easter eggs (that have been eaten several times and replaced), steak, shopping more that every 56 days and we occasionally go outside. All while taking lockdown seriously.
Some of us have even been known sanctioned rolling down hills.

We do not have competitive quarantine.

It's a good place to be.

TheGreatWave · 04/04/2020 08:50

Some of us even order skips. Blush

GrumpyMug2 · 04/04/2020 08:56

I did actually read the government guidelines the other day. It does say that cat owners are advised to wash their hands after stroking their cats. My cat has been self isolating for the last 12 years though so think I'm safe

ilovecherries · 04/04/2020 08:57

Damn. That’s what I feared about the soldiers. I’m too late to the party, have missed the best ones. 👀 bottle of Milton and wonders if it would work on clap.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 08:58

I missed the skips!

Washing your hands seems sensible. Anti bacterial wipe down, less so.

Shitsgettingcrazy · 04/04/2020 09:00

have missed the best ones.

Not really, theres been reports they are all deranged or infected in some ways.....but, jesus, they can rock the uniform.

Unfortunately, it appears the overall quality of them isnt great. But we have them and we will share them out when people are struggling Grin

SmileyClare · 04/04/2020 09:04

Hi ilovecherries new knickers? Shock I've woven my own from natural fibres foraged from my garden.

I'm toying with the idea of Cheer for People that don't have a Doorstep (big whoop on your doorstep for all those that can't)

ilovecherries · 04/04/2020 09:38

I shall wear my new knickers (microfibres, not k tired from thorns) with pride then, and go on the waiting list for a Spanish soldier.

ilovecherries · 04/04/2020 09:38

K tired??? Knitted, ffs.
